I am always in the bunt for RT tractors. They are pretty cool machines. The popularity of the RX tractors has made new RTs fairly scare in WKY.

These are smart farmers. I like that they alternate crops and practice no-till farming. Even further, they are conscious about their tractor’s weight and minimizing impact to soil by switching to tracks. I’m starting to think the duel track is rising to the top as the preferred configuration, as opposed to quad tracks. They appear to operate smoother. These farmers are thinking ahead and minimizing the effects of rising fertilizer prices. Very smart! Thanks for another thorough video of farmers in the field.

This year is the 25th Anniversary of Deere making these 2 track track tractors.It all began with the 8100T,8200T,8300T,8400T

I don't run my bosses planter, but they have used a John Deere 1750 8 Row Planter with liquid fertilizer to plant corn, soybeans, and milo. The tractor they used last fall was a John Deere 8120 with tinted windows. Before their oldest brother bought the 8120, they used a John Deere 7800 with a 740 Classic Loader.

My buddy uses a 4440 pulling a 1770. He has auto steer on the tractor and row shut offs on the planter

The 8000T and 8RT tractors work very nicely. The only time they will be a bit front heavy is crossing a water way as they nose up and then thud down where 4 tracks do not do that. When the two tracks are spaced out at 120 inches they ride over a ditch much better.

What are the fold down arms or 'markers' at each end of the planter for?

Row markers... they make a parallel line to the row you are making. On the next row you keep the tractor centered over the line laid by the marker to keep the rows perfectly parallel. But GPS has made them mostly obsolete.

The 8RTs are nice tractors. It’s getting harder to find 8RTs and 9RTs with the popularity of the 8RX and 9RX tractors.

My family should be planting sunflowers for bees with a 4 row IH corn planter and it should be pulled by a White 6065 or Massey Ferguson 2680 HD

I wasnt aware 30" rows were still used. Back in the '60's I worked for some guys that planted in 30" rows but thought that was a thing of the oast.

30 inch corn rows are still the standard here in Colorado.

My grandpa used 36 or 38 inch rows when he used a corn picker if I recall, 30 is now the general standard in my area. Soybeans are also 30 on our operation just because we don’t have one of those planters that can switch between

I am not really sure. Tracks can be more maintenance but they are similar to tires as far as getting about 3000 hours on them before the rubber needs to be replaced.
