John Deere Double D tandom tractors restored

Freshly restored set of John Deere tractors hooked together as a tandom tractor, all controls are on the rear treactor, except for the gear change on the front tractor, controls are hydrolic and front tractor has an electirc sylinoid to operate a choke. Both have true dual exhausts and this is what makeS this machine Bark as it does. Owner Scott McAbee, Stanwood high school students helped restore in school year of 2010-2011

Actually they were quite good in their time, they were the answer to 4wd tractors and that there was any option of 4wd when these were made so farmers either bought two and did the conversion themselves or paid for it at the dealers.

Farmers actually did this in the mid 1900s because they needed bigger machines, but could not afford the larger ones. Most would find that 2 or 3 100-or-so hp tractors could out-pull a 2-300hp tractor.

At 4:20 the front tractor is not running that why theirs no oil pressure it to loud when pulling in to the shop You are correct ShnitzlHaus

not even remotely close to being correct. they are two separate tractors of the same model, so in every way they are the same. the engines are spinning the same rpm and are coupled to the same rear ends with the same gear ratios aslong as both those engines are running in the same gear they are working in unison and producing the benefits of a 4wd. very practical for the farmer pulling ground engaging implements.

both engines are running, just the rear one is driving the rear axle only, fron engine was only idling. no transmission controlsfor front tractor set up on rear at time of video.

How could those 2 engines be synchronized? Unless they are in perfect time they would be working to disadvantage.Seems like a good idea but a practical waste of time
