With only 222 hours on the clock and a good service, this John Deere GX355 tractor mower will happily cut the grass for many years to come.
I enjoyed servicing and repairing this well built tractor mower.
For the cutting deck overhaul details, please see part 1 video on my channel
The background sound is made by myself using the Yamaha MODX-7 synth.
Thanks for watching.

i have one of these with almost 700 hours on it except its the older variant that doesn't have the diff lock (frustratingly) however its still running fine exept for the fact that it just ate another deck belt. where did you get the parts from? cant find any oem parts here in the UK at all. the only option I'v seen is to ship them from the US and I'm not paying 30 quid shipping and 15 quid import on a transmission belt for the hydrostat even though its got chunks missing out of it and it flaps all over the place

Hi, I sourced my parts from WGM gerden machinery as one of their stores are quite close here, but you can try Farol as well. When you say 'deck belt' it's about the primary (shorter, engine to main pulley) or secondary (longer, main pulley to all the deck spindles)?

@@Armadyllo to be honest its probably both now the shorter one is the one that broke but the long one probably should be replaced too since its the original one and has survived an idler pully lockup which made the pully red hot. it still works but would be nice to have one on hand. I'll have to see if there are either of those dealers have shops near me. thx for the info though

@@firenado4295 If you're lucky enough to find proper info about the length of the belts, then you can try a lot of non-OEM belts at reasonable prices from the local UK market. In the video where I've restored the 54-inch cutting deck, you can see that instead of spending 58 quid for an original secondary belt, I bought a PIX-LawnMaster belt with £42. Now that I know the numbers I can buy it with £27 which is basically half the price of an original one and I don't think it's only half the quality or life expectancy. Regarding the primary cogged belt, I personally consider this a JD design fault: you have a strong V2 Yanmar diesel engine with a lot of torque then you have a 54 inch deck with 3 big blades and in the middle there is this somehow fragile cogged belt. No wonder if some people have to change it more often than it should :)

what is the part number for that steering wheel bushing? My GX345 has steering wheel play and I just checked and it is missing.

I had exactly the same feeling when I saw that the bushing is missing... and I am pretty sure I was the first one that disassembled the steering column ever. I had no explanation why it wasn't there other than for cost cutting reasons or multiple design versions. The square bushing part is M145540, it cost £4.31 and it's made out of metal. There is another black plastic bushing you can see on top of that square one and the steering column pass through it at 1:47 I've replaced that one too, it's part M71060 and cost me £4.98. Hope it helps.

@@Armadyllo Thanks for the info. I'd guess someone working on the assembly line at the John Deere factory in Wisconsin left the part out. I am pretty sure the steering column on mine has never been disassembled either. Our tractors were probably built early on a Monday morning or late on a Friday afternoon. My father has a GX 335 and his has the bushing and no steering wheel play.

@@Armadyllo Apparently that bushing was thinner and made of plastic and it eventually breaks (and falls out) so they switched to the thicker metal bushing on the later machines. At least that is what I was told by the parts guy at the local Deere dealership when I went to order the part. My father's GX 335 is a 2005 and came with the metal one from the factory, my GX 345 is a 2003 model. Nice job fixing up that GX355.

As I said on the Kubota G1900 tread, just upload and post it as a public video on KZfaq.
