I do my best to teach you how to easily diagnose problems the fastest, quickest and most efficient way with real repairs beyond just replacing a spark plug. These tips are for both the homeowner and shop owner.
Whether it be a handheld, two stroke, two cycle engine like a chainsaw, weed eater, weed wacker, string trimmer, grass trimmer, line trimmer, hedge trimmer, strimmer, brush cutter, leaf blower, or four stroke, four cycle units like a lawnmower, wood splitter, lawn tractor, snowblower, pressure washer, generator or a ride on mower that needs parts installed or replaced, I’m your go-to guy.
My favorite brands of spark plugs are NGK and Champion and are the ones I recommend.

Smashing repair don :-D And if the person is worried about the bolt coming loose, a drop of thread locker on the threads will fix that. (no need to overtighten). It may also help with threads created with cheap taps, a slightly loose fit.

@@donyboy73 this is true. I've always bought Bosch tools etc but even they are crap these days. Hence the reason my new washing machine was the cheapest I could find. The last machine was Bosch and failed 3 months after the warranty was up. The bearings had gone, instead of being able to replace the bearings they are encased in a plastic case which covers the whole drum so only option was purchase a new drum from Bosch which was a fortune. So out of principle I binned it and bought the cheapest machine I could find as if it goes wrong and can't be fixed it's not a lot to loose so can just bin it and buy another if I can't fix it. I won't buy another Bosch product again.

Just wondering, could one drill all the way through and then use a nut and bolt? Seems like it would be easier than using a tap. Also, would a lock nut be better than a lock washer? Lock washers are not optimal in high vibration applications. Keep up the good work!

Good video. I do have one suggestion when it comes to drilling and tapping. If you use a smaller drill first, then use the proper tap drill, there will be less chance for the right drill to round out the hole during the drilling process, which can make the bolt slightly loose in some cases because a wandering drill will make the hole bigger than the actual size resulting in not so tight threads. Just my suggestion but whatever works for you.

there's hardly any videos out there about the spindle brakes or deck brake. can you replace just the brake pad of them or do you have to replace the whole arm? I'd imagine there would be different answers for different makers Craftsman John Deere and so on at least in some cases. then again John Deere and Craftsman share the same engine in some cases. anyway I was seeing sparks fly out from underneath my deck and I couldn't figure out what it was I searched the internet other people had the same questions never seen any answers couldn't find any information about sparks flying out from the deck on KZfaq once I turn my deck over from the Craftsman lawn mower I seen where the spindles have worn through these little brake pads and into the metal I'm assuming that's where the Sparks are coming from. can I take the arms off or is the lawn mower unable to be used without the brakes being on it? it probably is a stupid question but I'm going to ask it anyway if anybody has any insight into this mess would be appreciated. the lawn mower is Craftsman ys4500 917.276642 42-in deck Briggs 20 hp single piston OHV it only has one bar from the front of the tractor to the deck the spindles are a four bolt. ordering what I believe to be the right ones from Amazon looks like they're going to take about 10 days or more to get here. and was trying to figure out a solution to cut the grass until then. thanks again

Why wouldn't you just do it via grinding/drilling out that stud and use a though hole nut & bolt with a proper bearing spacer? Not the best solution there IMO.
@fadetounforgiven
@fadetounforgiven 5 жыл бұрын
"Best" is a relative concept here. For starters, he just had to basically make a hole for a new bolt and that was pretty much it. If you want to do it your way, which at first I also thought it would be the "right/adecuate" solution but then I think it isn't, you have to cut that off, make a hole, then find the proper bolt with the right spacer. That is, you are now in need of a spacer which Don's method isn't. That's a pretty good advantage if you ask me. And second but not least, when you put that new bolt, somehow it seems to me it will be easier to come un-screwed as time goes by than this way. Also, it's harder to tighten as the pulley must be in place in order to do that. And if the thing is not un-screwed with time and use, it will probably tend to rust or remain stuck if you ever want to take it apart for whatever reason. I think Don's method is not only simplier but also better in the long run.
