Lyrics:
So kiss me and smile for me
Tell me that you'll wait for me
Hold me like you'll never let me go
'Cause I'm leaving on a jet plane
Don't know when I'll be back again
Oh babe, I hate to go
And it's goodbye again, I'm sorry to be leavin' you
Goodbye again, as if you didn't know, it's goodbye again
And I wish you could tell me, why do we always fight when I have to go

I actually got to sit in a small circle with John Denver and hear him sing this song back around 1971 or 1972. My father worked for RCA Records and Denver was the special guest at an employee family picnic that my Dad had organized. I remember my father said "we have a new artist we really like." He was unknown to most of us, but he was great in person. About a year later he did his Rocky Mountain High TV special and became famous.

Yeah, man, I was a kid in 7th or 8th grade, John Denver was playing bars in Aspen, just about to hit. He had a teacher friend at Aspen Middle School and came and played in the school library for a group of about 30 of us (he was known for having written Jetplane as recorded by PP&M) and was excited to tell everyone he had been approached to record his first album, himself. You'd hear adults talk about him, that guy was truly loved in Aspen in that time (that was either the year or the year after Hunter Thompson ran for sheriff, which was also a crack up for a kid like me). Peace to you.

Most people don't have a clue just how deep John Denver was so good with writing.wrote Anne's song on a ski lift in 10 mins.others the same. A great pilot could fly his Lear jet along with his father Dutch..sea planes. If only he hadn't claimed aboard a plane some guy built in his garage..some say they tried to add fuel but John said I'll only be up for a while..some say he ran out of fuel..what a waste..RIP..john

John was of America's greatest song writers and performers of any era. His genius was being able to capture those moments that we all have experienced. The hiss of tires on a highway as we think of those back home; goodbye's at airports we say with moistened eyes, the peace we feel when watching sunlight sparkle on water. It's almost a cliche, but John Denver was a poet. Perhaps not one like Yeats or e.e. cummings but one who could catch moments in life and put them to music that spoke to our souls. Those of us who get this should feel blessed that we do.

My parents used to play his records, then his cassettes for me when I was little to help me fall asleep. My son is now four, and his music plays on loop for my son. My son tries to sing along, but doesn't know the words. My dad said I did the same thing when I was four. I'm so grateful I can share this with him. Five generations of my family loved this music, and with any luck: so will my son's children in time. The message is timeless, and needs to be remembered.

I was absolutely obsessed with John Denver and his music (Faaaar Out!) when I was a teen back in the mid-70's. Then, I used to sing quite a few of John's songs to my son at bedtime for many years... Now my son is a young daddy, and I hope he'll share some of John's amazing songs with his beautiful baby girl 💖🥰 Thank you, John Henry Deutchendorf, may you rest in peace, knowing that your wondrous music is still filling so many hearts! 💕

He was a great entanterer for us to hear like his voice and made the past so much music it's a shame he is not available anymore so just remember him bless him and his family and music we have a great run over the years I deal with life seem to be able to make me feel more comfortable than any other things around but my journey is music surfing and just like life so I can go on and be able to keep going until the end comes such is life

"I am leaving on a jet plane Don't know when I'll be back again" Those were some prophetic words considering he died in a plane crash..

This was my friend's favorite song, everyone sang it at her funeral. She died in third grade and I know she had meant so much to everyone.
