I've been loving this show so much and only a few episodes are out! The writing, cinematography, acting and the overall atmosphere of this series are magnificent. I can only hope that it's quality will continue to impress me and that the ending will be more than satisfying. The characters are extremely compelling and interesting to watch and you find yourself wrapped up in the Japanese politics of the 17th century. I especially find myself intrigued by Lady Mariko's arc and past that seemingly left her without purpose. I am hoping to see full flashbacks of her life when she was younger.
I can't wait for more episodes and hopefully more of John's and Mariko's story!

Watching Shōgun 2024 while rewatching Shōgun 1980. The original Toda Mariko, Shimada Yoko, died in 2022. For her memorable portrayal of Toda Mariko, she won a Golden Globe and was nominated for an Emmy. She probably would have been very happy watching Anna Sawai reprise her role. kzfaq.info7tjGZuHAilM

I love how her and John fell in love. Damn it all, Buntaro should have died, and that damn sanke should have helped john block the door. Now Mariko is gone.

Anna Sawai runs circles around Cosmo in terms of acting ability. Even her facial expressions convey a great deal as opposed to his wooden performance.

Very good edit, but the music is too loud. I couldn't understand half the dialog because the music drowned it out. But my hearing isn't the best, so maybe that's just me.

@@luanablake 'Sama' is reserved for the big guys, such as Toranaga. As they were teaching Blackthorne Japanese, neither Mariko nor Fujiko would have that appended to their names.

@@tnsampson2I mean, blackthorne was a prisoner at this point, so Mariko was of much higher standing than he was, so it makes sense tbh. They dropped the honorific when he was made hatamoto too, so

@@zoosanoo They wouldn't call him Anjin-san until he was thought worthy of the 'san' suffix. But there is no way any woman would have demanded that a man use the word 'sama' as part of their name.

@@tnsampson2"sama" is a suffix that literally translates to "Lord" or "Lady" together with "dono." It is used by nobility which is what Mariko is. Please read a bit more.
