It is around the hearth which meals are prepared and shared. I want to hear more about John’s Aunt. His adopted mother, as he called her. He has been cooking at the hearth she had stoked for him. I feel his whole talk was about the love of and for his Aunt and the Home he has between there and here.

Excellent. In this age, it is easier than ever before to encounter stiff resistance towards the divine inclination to cease all grasping, as never before in the course of human history has the world, and all it offers, been made manifest in the hand of every person, poor or rich, servant or free.

One of the best talks I’ve heard from John, this is absolutely insightful and he’s managed to articulate some of the most deeply important problems I’ve had to face. “I do not belong” to “I must find the unconditional way to solve this problem”, John has managed to bring out something that I have been longing for.

This is brilliant, mostly easy to understand, even with the complex subject matter, and humorous. Thank you, John. An apt complement to what has gone before. Much to consider here when I put the 4 of these talks together. I can only imagine what happened live.

Excellent performance 🎭. See also Heidegger’s building dwelling Being. Zoom out far enough and the microcosm becomes the macrocosm that great Gadsby insight was on point about my journey in America 🇺🇸 that book afforded me a great relevance realisation .

This reminds me of a Jacob Collier talk he gave about ‘home’. In music home is the one cord or the first note of the scale. It is the reference point from which a piece of music is centered.

I love seeing a philosopher talk about our relationship to existence who invokes the sense of the sacred, profane, thoughtful, and personal in a way I can understand and enjoy, especially who expands one's capacity to be, think, and act.

I realized now listening for the second time, this isn't "Science" the way the modern zeitgeist thinks of it. It's too narrative, too much of a story to be that. But for that reason it has much more force to the understanding it brings. Thank you for sharing pastor Paul

So many insights delivered with grace, good humour, and love. After listening to John Vervaeke, I feel maybe I have a slightly greater perspective to better help myself and those I love in these times. At the same time, he shows how essential and massive this undertaking is. I often doubt I am up to it.

I tend to drift off a lot, and also generally refuse to watch anything more than once, so I gave up on the meaning crisis lectures after episode 42, but I understood this entire thing! Really appreciated the inclusion of JV in this get-together, despite the fact that he used part of his hour to send the cold current of dread through us regarding our looming AI overlords.

@EmJay2022
@EmJay2022 Жыл бұрын
We as humans need to feel valued and loved; otherwise, we fall apart. If a child is referred to as a "mistake" by their parents, it causes that child great pain and leads them to feel marginalized. Is it then a wonder that our society lacks connectedness and meaning when popular science through the theory of evolution basically tells us that we are all unintended consequences? The truth is that the theory of evolution isn't science; it's psychology, and a CogSci professor should have no trouble seeing that.

Evolution is literally observable: there are bacteria studies tracking thousands of generations as they mutate and adapt. It's not just hard biology, but literal fact. The interesting questions are in how selection pressure works, and in what ways genes and mutations are triggered in the first place
@EmJay2022
@EmJay2022 Жыл бұрын
@@joe42m13 Are they still bacteria? My point is, mutations or trait variations within a population of organisms over successive generations is not scientifically proven to lead to the eventual transmutation of that organism. You can go back and forth on the supposed science but the bottom line for me is, why does recorded human history not extend further back than 5000 years?
@joe42m13
@joe42m13 Жыл бұрын
@EmJay821 because that's when the oldest known form of writing is from. You can't really effectively date oral tradition, but evidence for anatomically modern humans goes back tens of thousands of years, possibly hundreds. Not really sure what your issue is.
@EmJay2022
@EmJay2022 Жыл бұрын
@@joe42m13 Today is the year 5783 according to the Jewish calendar. Their religion seems to have believed that is the actual age of the earth which many still maintain today. Do you think they have been wrong this entire time and that humanity, after millions of years, spontaneously discovered the ability to write only 5,000 years ago? Sounds like a bit of a stretch to me.
@joe42m13
@joe42m13 Жыл бұрын
@EmJay821 Yes. The 6000-year-old earth theory is factually incorrect. When you try to explain your creation Myth through modern empirical science, you inevitably sacrifice the integrity of either the myth or the science.
