I have a follow-up video on this topic that goes better into the context behind my anger on this. When I say, "This goes deeper than them not doing a theme justice". THAT is what angers me, not the art so much. I believed at the time that Stern was pushing an agenda. I deal with these agenda pushers in other parts of my life, and to see it creeping into my passion for pinball was something that I couldn't tolerate. Since this video was released, Stern clarified the licensor was the reason for no guns.

John Wick with no guns is a waste of an IP. Imagine being a super fan and just getting kicked in the balls. Why bother doing the IP to begin with. Damn, I would love to have heard this decision meeting discourse. Who's making these expensive, bone-head, decisions? Toy Story 4 pinball, Jaws doesn't eat the ball, John Wick no guns, BBQ pinball... why are these decisions being made in an industry that has such a small number of customers? I don't get it. So Gomez’s statement saying it was a brand requirement, certainly this wasn’t Lionsgates requirement as they licensed film clips with guns. They sell lots of movies with guns. So Gomez statement being vague sounds intentional. This is Stern’s brand now? If so then it can permanently check Stern off my list

It's just not an accurate representation of the character. If you don't like the gun violence of John Wick, don't do the theme. Period.

Yup, that was me the other day. Livid. I felt that it was an attack on my Constitutional right. All of it. We ranted on the live stream, we bonded. We bro hugged. I then went and looked at the game play videos of the Premium and I started to chill out. I thought, "Willie you know what, the 2nd Amendment doesn't apply to Assassins". They operate outside of the law and that isn't us law abiding firearms owners. People think us pro 2A are nuts, but we aren't. We are among the most law abiding, sane, sober, moral and prudent citizens. So I'm better now, still I think Lionsgate, or Stern, the designer, the artist or all of the above are still cringe worthy pu55ies, but I'm moving on. The game looks great, I prefer the Premium art package. I don't like the art work on the backbox and I don't like some of the character art on the playfield. But I like the rest of it. And this game will be a moders dream. I have a ton of ideas already. I need to talk to Bobby and Mr. T, we are going to make this happen. There will be guns! Am I buying it? Nope, does that invalidate my opinion? Nope. I just don't have $9.6k to drop on a pinball machine.

😂 I was talking to the rest of the Mafia today about the release video, and I was like, "Man, Cary kinda poo-poo'd on it in the 1st video, then changed his tune a bit in the second....no way he's not going to like what he saw from the release video." Never saw THIS coming! 😂 I never even noticed the no guns, and I'm a gun guy, too, but I still think the game looks great. I'm excited to play it, regardless.

Just double checked, and in fact the case doesn't have any guns in it either, it has smoke grenades, knives, and nun-chucks, so now not only are they not including guns but they are actively being untrue to the source material by not accurately showing the nice pair of H&K P30L's that he has in the first movie, that come from that case.

Very weird move for stern.. however, if there are guns in the game animation or in the weapons chest I won’t be that upset but if they removed the guns all together!?? That would be nuts!

I understand your opinion but this seems like an overreaction imo. The game looks good, the shots look fun and there are other weapons on the playfield art and guns in the video clips. If I don’t get this game it won’t be because they omitted a gun on the artwork.

It does seem like some sort of artistic choice. Bond has guns all over it. There are guns in the clips. It’s not like taking guns off the playfield makes it any less violent looking. Don’t really agree with the outrage but you do you. Also I don’t think Stern owes distributors anything in terms of how they handle a license… I wouldn’t buy this game with or without guns but I guess if it’s that important to you as a ‘real fan’ maybe they should have put guns in the art (which I think is actually quite good, the art that is), wow haha!

Relax they can fix this with software. Add some gun filled video footage and a "Guns lots of guns" callout from the movie. Its the beauty of Sterns platform. They can fix this.

Overreaction IMO - the video assets will include guns I'm sure. I think we should really be focusing on how there is essentially no difference from the Pro to the Premium based off what I'm seeing, at least not value wise.

When you think about it, this isn’t just a middle finger to fans of John Wick, it’s a middle finger to the whole Gun-Fu genre and directors like John Wu and Takeshi Kitano, whose work was a huge inspiration for the John Wick series. I’m sure the designers were just as frustrated by this level of corporate meddling, but at least the layout works.

Galaxy Tank Force by American Pinball seemed a step in the right direction. Not /too/ lewd for the public but with appreciable overtones akin to a PG Flash Gordon or Barbarella spinoff

John only used nunchucks in one scene in one movie. You gotta showcase the HK and Taran Tactical sidearms or I’m not interested.

BUT, I didn’t even notice there were NO guns in the play field. This alone has completely changed my decision to not purchase this game. WTF?? How do you not have guns in John Wick? Interesting take and I understand where you come from but take a breath for a minute. James Bond shows weapons.. there has to be a reason why it was chosen to not go that route with this pin. I think the most obvious change is the weapons cache, in the movie it shows guns and on the playfield it shows other items.

Hey Cary, I respect your channel but I have a problem with "Now... I don't care how it plays". I understand your issue with the art package 100%. It's absurd to not include a gun on the art. That being said, Jurassic Park is sitting behind you over there. Sorry Johnny Crap, but Jurassic Park has one of the worst art packages I've ever seen. The screwed up the literal font colors on the Pro. The only movie scene depicted on a launch model is the left art wall of the Premium edition. On top of the bland uninspired art, Stern didn't license any of the iconic characters or clips of the movies either. We got Dennis Nedry and nothing else. With that being said, it's one of the best pinball machines of all time. Keith Elwin made a legendary machine. What "precedent" did that set? "Stern doesn't need to license characters anymore"? "movie clips don't matter" ? nah. They heard our feedback. Look at Jaws. Look at Bond. Look at... John Wick. All 4 movies are there. They heard the feedback and made adjustments. They never hired Johnny Crap again for another machine. This sucks right now and I agree with you but Stern will hear community feedback and make those adjustments in future products.

The game should really be titled "John Woody" (Toy Story) and the backglass needs Woody on the backglass with his always empty pistol holster. My Jaws table has a speargun on the playfield. I will probably get some kind of sticker from Stern to cover it if the trend continues. JAWS HAS MORE GUNS THAN JOHN WICK! Its a slippery slope folks. Let your money talk cause the mouse ain't listening and deep down I think Stern secretly hopes there's a consumer backlash. I feel like this no gun condition came late in the process after money already changed hands and by then Stern had to go with the table. Just floatin that out there. Remember, it was Ben Franklin who said regarding the breaking away from England and the need for a unified front "We must hang together or most assuredly we will all hang separately".
