I just bought a 2020 Honda 1332 ATD. As per your advice I had the selling dealer install front skid shoes and I had him adjust them so that the auger housing is at least 5/16" or 3/8" off the ground. I can shovel the remaining snow by hand in order to preserve the bottom edge of the sides of the housing. The dealer told me that they have seen Honda units coming in after a few years with rusted auger housings. In my area drift cutters are not necessary. I had them on my other 3 machines and I never used them. Love your videos. Thanks.

Thank you for taking the time to put together such an informative step-by-step video. I have the same machine and will be installing the accessories that you have installed. I would like make a suggestion with regards to your drift cutters. If you install a longer bolt and Nylock to keep the bolt in place, you can then use your Wingnuts to take your drift Cutters off without having to mess with nuts and bolts. I did this on my previous snowblower and will do this on my new Honda. Good luck, keep up the great videos. I did subscribe by the way.

Thanks for the sub! The nyloc idea is good but one concern i have is that anything sticking out of the housing would be a hazard. Thats why its best just to remove all components so theres no issues going forward. I could see that threaded portion catching my knee, ripping my pants, gouging up my side steps on my truck or even my garage door trim when i get close and the machine may possibly jerk to one side. But if it works for you thats all that matters. Thanks for watching!

I welded on extra thickness to the skids on my new HSS928A, the OEM skids are very thin. The extra steel made them 1/2 thick after a little grinding and paint you can't tell them apart from Honda OEM. My last Honda was a HS80 it was 27 years old it was time for bearings on the fan and auger all four were ready to be changed. I also changed the belts for the first time and did some touch up paint after it was done it looked and ran great. I sold that Honda to my nephew for what I had in parts in it, and he says it still throws snow like crazy. That machine cleaned a lot of driveways and never broke down never.

Thanks Franco, I bought a new 1332ATD this morning not in small part to your video reviews and modifications. I've ordered my Husky Drift Breakers already and I will likely do the same heated grips that you have. It doesn't look like Amazon has the beefy housing shoes that you installed any longer. They have little polymer ones now. Anyway Please keep it up. Honda should send you some freebies to test and review for them. Thanks again from Coeur d'Alene, Id

Yes i have heard rumors they have discontinued them. Those commercial skid are for HS machines. Not so much HSS. I just made them work for me. But the poly skids will work just as well. Since the primary function of the side mounted ones are just as a stop/limiter and not an actual skid. So they will not wear to much. Thats how i have it set up on my machine at least. I may change over to poly skids all around eventually to see how long i can get them to last here. I would love to work with Honda, and to help them try out different designs. Here in NH is the perfect place to do so. Thanks for watching!

Hi John, I have Honda HSS1332a that I bought new in 2018. I change the oil every year and inspect the spark plug. What other annual maintenance should I do on this machine? I do not see any grease ports and I am not sure if there are other fluids that need to be changed or moving parts that need greasing. I am somewhat leery of bringing the machine to a Honda dealership to do the maintenance as I have had bad experiences (not with Honda) but other snowblower equipment repair shops. The Honda owner’s manual recommends using an authorized Honda dealer facility (of course). Any advice and guidance, greatly appreciated.

Its an oem Husqvarna Drift Breaker Kit 532183614. I highly recommend adding thick nylon washers inside and out, kit only comes with 2 you will need 4 total. The Husky bolts are carriage bolts with a square feature near the head, to key into the husky housing. I filed mine round to clear rubber washer i used and to not gouge the Honda paint.

John, I have a new 2019 HSS928AATD...Very dissapointed in the clogging. Live on the coast, so my snow is wet stuff on many occasions. I ordered a replacement chute to modify like you did on the 1332 and it came in today. I ordered the 76310V45A00ZA chute and what they sent was a 76310-V45-A01ZA..This was the honda # right on the shipping box. For $26.0 + shipping I figured I would try it and keep the original one in case I sold it later. THe one that came in is allready modified and the plate is gone. Looks like Honda listened to you. I can send a picture but need help on how to do it....Paul.. Coastal Massachusetts....
@turdsandwicher
@turdsandwicher 3 жыл бұрын
It will clog with wet stuff as most blowers do. The trick is you need to constantly feed it with slush. So say if you got only an inch of snow but wet stuff. You would do a pass down your driveway just collecting the snow in the bucket and then turn on the auger when you reach the street. Too little snow you will clog.

Interesting installations , thanks for the video. I would add, that if you decide to use stainless steel fasteners you may find that removing the nut.washer etc. the next time may prove to be a bit bothersome. Stainless steel bolts from common hardware stores are 'soft' and will stretch on tightening, so that when you try to remove them later the bolts may break off at the nut. This is especially true if you use stover or nylok type nuts. If you are trying to avoid rusting fasteners, you should go to a specialty fastener supply shop, and ask for 'rust proof bolt and nut sets, or failing this, buy Grade 8 bolt, nut and washers, these take must longer to rust. You will notice that the bolts and nuts that some manufacturers offer are plated with a black coating that does a great job of rust proofing.
@JohnFrancoNH
@JohnFrancoNH 6 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the info. The snowblower sits in a partially heated garage and drys off very quickly . If left outside then i think it would be alot more picky for fasteners that would last. I think a lot of crap builds up on the surface of stainless over time due to galvanic corrosion of other present metals non-stainless. The stainless is all intact under that brown layer of oxide crud. Thats what usually will seize the b**** on there. Its like a form of loctite, lol. I notice once you quickly hit it with a stainless wire brush it almost looks like new.

Hi John I wrote to you a few weeks ago in regards to my same snowblower 1st time out that I was getting skid trails on either side and couldn’t clear out snow when trying to get close to the house or shed and that I was not getting down to the pavement. I tried adjusting the shoes based on page 55 of the owners manual and I see the problem but do not know how to fix unless it’s a manufacturer defect. After I adjusted the shoes and payed on the ground to look at the scraper bar the bar is also touching in the center and much higher on left and right side.

I live in Sweden and the last two seasons it has been almost impossible to get a new Honda snowblower. I thought they were made in Japan.

Yes i believe the newest generation of Honda are made in the USA. My previous machine the HS1332TAS was made in Japan. The rear skids are the ones that are necessary the front skids are optional. Hey Franco: I bought a brand new Honda Snowblower HSS928ATD because I watching your channel and I thought Honda snowblower is the BEST! Unfortunately when the snowstorm came and used my Honda Snowblower, it was not at all what you said. My brand new Honda Snowblower didn't clean the snow very well and ran rough. In order for the Snowblower to move I have to keep the Auger housing an inch or two of the pavement which result in snow not being clean off the driveway. if I put the Auger Housing right on the pavement the snowblower ran rough! It almost feel like the snowblower jumped up/down moving forward. It just didn't run smooth when the Auger Housing is sitting on the pavement. What cause this problem? Your advice will be greatly appreciated
@JohnFrancoNH
@JohnFrancoNH 5 жыл бұрын
What do you mean it ran rough? was the engine running rough or it just wasnt gliding across pavement smoothly? But it sounds like the skids and scraper bar are not adjusted properly to me. This is an important step and has to be done where you plan on using it the most. Driveways are not perfectly flat planes and machine has to adjusted before use. It will wear in nicely after you get it set right. Hope this helps. Thanks for watching!

My lot is not level; it has maybe 5 or 10-degree slope. Do I have to adjust the skid shoes every time I go up & down my driveway? It seems a lot of works. I just got the HSS724ATD--was fortunate to find one as they're sold out just about everywhere I looked in Northern New England. What a NICE machine! It has only the rear skid shoes. While I'm sure these are adequate, I'm finding that it's scuffing the dry pavement (we haven't had any snowfall yet in Boston) in my driveway. Would it be wise, in your opinion, to install a par of these front skid shoes as well? Also, I'm ordering the parts for the handle warmers to be installed per your instructions. They're the one feature that my Simplicity has that the Honda doesn't. Once you have them on a snowblower, you never want to be without them.

If you are looking for good skid shoes I would recommend the polyurethane ones from “Fallline” on Amazon. The poly ones glide along really nicely and are a great enhancement in performance and user experience with this snowblower. I have the same blower as Franco. However, you might need to add a thin plate on the inside of the housing when you bolt the shoes on so that the thin gauge metal on the auger housing is sandwiched between the shoe and plate. I picked up some stainless flat stock from McMaster drilled a couple of holes in it and it worked out perfectly. You might be OK without the plate...

Hi, the HS1332tas i had was a 2012. The only reason i sold it was to upgrade to the newer HSS. Mainly because i really had a need for differential steering and the new infinitely variable height adjust and joystick remote for the chute are just a pleasure to operate over the previous manual types. If you have a dead straight driveway the HS1332 is still a great choice. I on the other hand have a driveway that has multiple turns in it.
