It is AWFUL. I give him SO much respect going back to LA, for denying any further drugs to block any further withdrawals, as it DOES replace one with another. That I know all too well, and it’s far worse. The sickness is unbearable. The nights are the worst; feeling like running 100 miles to stop the RLS. It goes on. It just can’t be imagined if one hasn’t experienced.

I was a coward. No, I wasn’t under a dr’s care either. Eventually my ex kinda helped me, so when I had 2 surgeries I had to request as little pain meds as possible. The cramps, and the body stiffens when you stand up….the flu symptoms ugh…it sounds like nothing to those who thank God haven’t been through, it cannot be explained. I am currently on other controlled from my dr., and I want to get off. Weaning off isn’t as easy as it sounds. Idk what I’ll be like, and I dread it. I’m so happy to know you’re good, and you made it through. That old saying; “double your dose and you’re done” is a fact. But I didn’t listen.

A nurse came in and was rude yourself. I was sweating no runny nose , puking and terrible stomach pain. It's a long story why I went to that hospital Anyways after she left the room I thought about what she said , Oh , no your not saying that to anyone. They took my gall Bladder out that night, it was Disintegrated . A week later I drove down and spoke to public relations. She was fired , I'm assuming I was the only one to complain. Since I had a therapy Dog and visited the patients 2 a week. The gal knew me. Thank gawd I had some sort of reputation with the hospital. All I could think of is what if it was true . She would treat the patient like that. I totally agree it's a epidemic & disease and no one should be treated that way

Oh goodness.. I am so very sorry. I have been there and this could very well have been me. It is a wicked road. I am clean now but the desire to go back will never go away. Even I know I could overdose it would be the death of me, my brain bypasses that judgement.

I was a former opioid addict myself, after getting t-boned on my atv by a car driven by a woman with severe dementia, I almost broke my neck when my head/helmet took out her windshield knocking me out for a few minutes I was prescribed oxycodone 10mg, 2 pills every six hours or so as needed, also I want to add the doctor never made any mentions of how addictive these drugs are, when my neck healed enough and I got back to work I decided I no longer needed them as I thought like anti biotics if you take them when you don't need them, when you do they wont work. So I stopped cold, and found out just how bad it really was, after a week with no improvements and continual withdrawal, I said enough was enough and that's when my true addiction started, I was lobster fishing at the time bringing in $60,000.00+ a year and with the exception of rent, pills came first, when i was buying off the street, pills were $60-$80 each for about 4-6 hours of relief depending on how much I exerted myself, if I got a sweat going they'd run out sooner, if I laid around on the couch they'd last longer. it made me very lazy, and destroyed my credit. luckily after 7 years of snorting opioids I was blessed enough that a friend had gotten into a methadone clinic and told me just how nice and understanding the people were, and how the methadone had allowed him to take his life back, now its not like Johnny where I went cold turkey, but the methadone allowed me to ease back into semi sober living and begin to feel and feel emotions again. and the way this man described withdrawal is exactly as I remember, only for me there was much more vomiting to the point of dry heaving blood, using the bathroom until toilet paper made your skin raw, and worst of all, the physical pain of the restless limbs, being more of an annoyance balanced with a subtle pain, to the point you want to saw off your limbs, and any actual injuries or pain, (In my case my lower back from a hockey injury and my neck) it amplified that pain ten fold or more. Methadone gave me a new lease on life, as I ween off it now, originally at 120mg of methadone drank daily, I'm now down to 30 (only allowed 10mg decreases a month) I will be done in 3 months after 6 years. I'm now 29. I know people including my own mother who went through what you are currently experiencing, and switching to methadone has helped her pain without the scrutiny that's put on doctors for prescribing opioids, perhaps it is something you should consider, and I will pray for you to have better days when it comes to chronic pain. Unfortunately for me I've had to learn to live with my neck and back due to my medical history as an addict now. I wish you nothing but the best in your future and god bless you in your endeavors.

Medical dependence is when you NEED the medication and take it as prescribed to help alleviate pain, but your body becomes used to it. It's physical and medical. Addiction is physical, mental, and behavioral. It's when your NEED for the drug goes above and beyond its intended medical purpose, and you are no longer taking it for pain control, but simply to feel good or to not be sick. Addiction is behavioral in the sense that you will do things you never would otherwise do- Like steal money or items, lie, buy street drugs, mix other drugs with the opioids, etc. Chronic Pain Patients who are truly taking these medications for relief but have become dependent usually do not end up resorting to the behavioral tactics that addicts do.

Yea he explained it so vividly i got goose bumps , well done on getting clean from opiates , im a bit over a year clean from methadone , and man was that a nightmare , petty much all the withdrawls you mentioned, execpt on day 9 of no sleep at all i had a suspected psychotic break and ended up in emergency dept ,suicidal, delusional, begging for something to knock me out , i said even hand cuff me to the bed and knock me out , put me in a coma - anything to escape that feeling , but nope just put in a room for 5 hours and monitored, that was my lowest point in my life . But was a good lesson i will never go though that again, dont even get cravings at all it was that bad

Yes this is very true, one can die from detoxing by yourself especially if one is a heavy user. I had one patient actually ended up going to ICU.

Over the counter pain meds? OTC means that you can buy if off the shelf (like DayQuil). You can't die from opiate withdrawal directly, but you can die from dehydration if you can't or won't consume fluids

This is exactly why the medical community prescribing these things and developing them should be held criminally liable

It's not even so much that it was cruel of her because his doctor told him what time his meds were to be administered-- it's the fact she lacked compassion enough to let an hour or so slide because he was so uncomfortable. She's just so dense and vile.

That’s what I think as well. Some folks are saying that he speaks like this because of drugs. I don’t believe that to be true. He speaks well; slow and thoughtfully, of what he’s explaining. He understands fully about his addiction.

Real domestic violence, she wouldn't be that quick to be punching him up. Trust me. A women can not fight a man. I no I was beaten by my ex on and of for 8 years.

If your a mellow person like JD and you come up against someone who gets moody and wild like AH after her Ambien and 2 bottles of wine or whatever. Shes aggressive, and like JD stated--she's about equal weight and just as tall as he is. She could take down a man because shes out of control and possessed-mayb on ecstacy

@@kimberlymartnez8775 I know a few people who take Suboxone daily and they no longer crave the opiates they were addicted to. Everyone is different though!

@@kimberlymartnez8775 YES. I speak from experience, it helps with cravings but doesn't make you high like methadone does. It just lets you be normal, as much as you can be while still taking a pharmaceutical. The great thing about Suboxone is that it's not hard to lower the amount you take fairly quickly, so that you're not stuck putting huge amounts of it in your body - with methadone ppl are always upping their dose to get that high, but Suboxone doesn't do that and you can actually reduce your intake to tiny amounts if you choose (over time) to and it's STILL just as effective.

I agree. I have watched a love one for 18 years struggling. No one grows up and says " I want to be an addict"... it deeply affects their lived ones as well.. it's a horrible disease....🥺

Thanks for such a thoughtful and considered comment. I’ve never experienced most of these drugs, but I empathize with each of the commenters who have. Thanks for sharing your knowledge. You nailed it on the head when pointing to the US medical system. All of our large government controlled entities are rife with corruption-pharma, education, prison, food-you name it.

@@gonzzceli I saw her almost laugh at some joke but she stifled it. I saw him give her the gentleness of smiles for a few seconds-I think it was when he spoke about when he talked to her mom and told her thanks to Amber in regard to his detox. but maybe he was smiling to himself or someone else.

During the beginning stages of my husband's recovery I abstained from alcohol and it was good for both of us honestly. It was not a big deal and it made me feel like I could be helpful when before it felt hopeless. Things got better and are wonderful today. I wouldn't be surprised of she is a big druggie but better at hiding it. Women with addiction are notorious for this.

He’s very good at acting, I’ll give you that. Btw, notice that he is a fully grown, middle aged man not taking responsibility for all the terrible choices he made in his life? That’s what addicts do best! Can you even imagine how boring it is to sit in court for dozens of hours watching your ex blather on about being a middle aged junkie who consistently made poor choices and endlessly behaved badly? I cannot imagine having to sit through all this, desperately trying to not nod off.

She is an evil person. Such a terrible idea to have her around during his detox process. It would have been to his best interest to have his sister instead. Just watching her span her eyes back and forth between the judge and the jury to watch their reactions to his sufferings 🤦🏽‍♀️. I would be in tears if I was hearing the person I truly love speaking about their terrible physically ordeal. She lacks empathy and love for this man💔

I agree. Ive never heard anything so horrid and inhumane other than the Holocaust. Johnny had to jump into a hot shower so his muscles and nerves found some relief. AH needs to someday go through surgery without anestheia and see how it feels.
