That was back when you may only get 3 or 4 channels on your TV. Life back then was so much easier were you spent a lot of time playing outside.

Yup, we entertained ourselves often with a stick and a ball. Oftentimes the girls would be playing with a hula hoop...and or a slinky...lol Give me a skate board....my inner child is coming out....thank you for jarring the memories from within. 🍻

Born in ‘66 and feel that I was blessed to have grown up when I did. My friends and I had our bikes, our imaginations, and unlimited ideas on things to do for fun. Saturday mornings were pure magic with cartoons and cereal commercials. Who here remembers pestering your mom to let you buy every box of cereal that had a prize in it?

Lol. I used to make my mom buy all kinds of cereals just for the prizes, and then never ate half of them. That used to piss her off so much! Good times

According to today's young people, my generation didn't have much in the way of entertainment, but this video just reran the memories of my childhood and early teenage years via sugary cereal commercials, Saturday morning cartoons and many of the toys and games my brother and I played together. Thank you so much for such an enjoyable trip back to simpler times. I wouldn't trade those years for anything our current times have to offer.

A bygone era. I grew up with Saturday morning TV. Shows like Bug Bunny/Road Runner, Schoolhouse Rock, Land of the Lost, Fat Albert, and so much more. This video showed some things I haven't thought of in decades-- In the News, Shazam, etc. And of course there were kids commercials for things like cereal (I loved Frankenberry and Boo Berry) and toys. Lite Brite was my favorite toy. I'd use one today if I could find one!!

@@linasbutcher1914 so nice to see people around the same age! I was born in 61. I've been finding these times very trying! I also miss those times immensely. Thank God we have people like Johnny who Preserve a part of our history! This has been my sanity and my enjoyment. I am forever grateful for these videos and those like them. I love reading these comments especially in these trying times. People have become anti-social. I go to appointments everyone's on their phones playing games. No one addresses other people to say hello or have a little friendly conversation. I'm not used to this. I don't want to know someone's life story , just a pleasant little hello and exchange some pleasantries. Maybe I'm Wrong! I hope everyone's well and staying strong! Love from New England ❤

I was born in 1960 and I remember the Beatles cartoon and the Monkees. But I had forgotten about the Jackson 5, the Hudson Brothers and the Osmond Brothers. Wow! You brought back so many great memories for me. What a great time it was for us to be a kid! Especially the games for we were never board. My favorites were Ker Plunk, Battleship, Spill The Beans, Trouble and more. Does anyone remember Lincoln Logs and the Sorry game? I miss those days and wish they'd bring back the old cartoons. Kids today would enjoy them. I am so grateful to have experienced all that!

Anyone else ever race downstairs to the TV so early that the TV stations hadn’t “woke up” yet? First, the video color bars, then the Star-Spangled Banner, then Looney Tunes...

Yup (minus the Star Spangled Banner: that would've been odd to see in Canada...) and the first shows to come on on my channels were the old Filmation Hercules or Wizard of Oz cartoon shorts; Looney Tunes was towards the end of the morning).

Yes, I used to get up early to catch the cartoons so I wouldn't miss a single one! I used to get around 5:30 or 6 :00 am (I forget which time) to watch "Hercules". I believe Johnny Nash sang the theme song to it. It came on KCOP channel 13 in LA over the antenna. We lived in northern SD county but our antenna got good to great reception. We usually got 12 of the 13 channels on our TV dial! We were able to watch all the LA and San Diego channels plus 2 Mexican stations. Channels: 2 KCBS, 4 KNBC, 5 KTLA, 6 XETV Mex., 7 KABC, 8 KFMB, 9 KHJ , 10 KOGO, 11 KTTV, 12 TJ, Mex., Station, 13 KCOP. That was BC (Before Cable) when, you know TV reception was free!

Scottish McMillan, Yes. I did! EVERY Saturday morning!!! Sundays, too. Then, later, when my Parents got up, while Mama was making breakfast for my Daddy (my Big Sister and I ate earlier), I’d clamber up, onto my Daddy’s lap where he was reading the Sunday paper. Y’all can probably guess what happened next. I’d kind of cutely insist that Daddy and I “read’ the funny pages together. He never refused me. Then, we’d all get ready for Sunday School. I was, like 4, probably? Happy Holidays, everyone!!!

Born in 63, and turning 60 next year and seeing these commercials and cartoons brings back so many good memories of my childhood. Some of these jingles as they start playing, even though I haven’t heard them in 50 years, they come right back to me. I remember waking up at 6am to watch Davey and galiath, mr magoo just to mention a few to start off the morning. Memories of my grandmother who lived with would make me my breakfast, soft boiled egg. Sometimes French toast or cereal… and I’d sit all morning and watch all of these shows until noon right after the bugs bunny road runner hour then I’d go out and play with my friends. Still I hum the jingles of school house rock. We should all plan a Saturday morning reunion get together lol. God I miss our childhood. Those were the days!!

Myrtle beach seemed popular when I was 8-14 years old. Anyone recall the screamer 2 bike from sears? Or, the apple crate, gray ghost, lemon peeler schwin bikes of the early/mid 70's? Imagine some of us here lucky enough to see the debut of scoobe doo in 1968? Also, the monkees, johnny quest, land of the lost, and a long list of other vintage morning, afternoon, evening shows. Same with music groups/5-8.00 concerts with three top bands on the bill. The variety of legendary bands was endless, feeling the well would never run dry. Sports were amazing, from NFL, tennis, NBA to Ali and boxing. We had it all. Never imagined it being any different. Etched in stone memories to appreciate during the upside down world of today. Everyone here..chill and enjoy your final stretch of life's journey. Stay positive, anything is STILL possible to enjoy or achieve! That includes finding a new love.

'65 here. Going through really rough times in this new world order of things and this is EXACTLY what I needed. To be reminded of what I gratefully got to live and experience as a kid growing up in the 60s/70s: the sights, sounds, smells, free-spirited and playful adventure outdoors - ALL DAY - and all over, wood panelling, loud prints, macrame, and the COOLEST CARS EVER!! ... (mind you, in 20-30yrs from now, kids born in the 90s are going to be saying the exact same thing about their own era - well, except for the unsupervised and adventurous playtime outdoors) ... every sense came rushing back to me. Many are addicted to their smart phones, they are constantly quenching our thirsts for media and entertainment and as for the toys that we play with now, can be mechanical, can also be psychedelic. The toys were better quality because everything wasn’t made in China, and the shows on TV were much better. It makes you look at today’s shows and cartoons-the difference is just sad.

I remember all these great toys as a kid. I never got to play with any of them because we were too poor. However, my dad made all our toys. He would get a big box 5‘ x 5‘ and tell us it was a cave, go explore. He’d get us a ball of yarn and tell us it was a slinky go play. For stocking stuffer he would make those paper footballs and put them in our stockings. We always knew what it was because the stockings had holes. And most of time that was the only pair of socks we had. Dad will go outside during the summer and dig a hole about 2 foot deep about 8 foot wide fill it with water. And he would say I’m taking you to the pool today. That water was Muddy but it was sure cool on those hot summer days. We always had plenty of food because of the food stamps. The government provided. I think we got about 850 a month in food stamps. So dad really didn’t have to work.

I'm 54 years old and I stopped watching Saturday mornings cartoons after 6th grade...just about the time I stopped trick or treating on Halloween but I fondly remember those Saturday mornings. I never noticed that they have stopped showing Saturday morning cartoons!....that's a tragedy for young people. ...of course nowadays you have "cartoon netwook" and "nikolodeon" which play cartoons 24/7 so maybe that explains the demise of Saturday morning cartoons on the Big Three Networks.

Born in '58, we didnt have a TV until I was 7 in '65. Until then I was playing out in the woods and fields around our tiny home, outside toilet, the bath was in the Kitchen! Deprived, def not. A neighbour would allow us kids to pile in and watch childrens hour then, in the summer all back out to play again....dens, climbing trees, damming streams, apple picking and daring each other to run across a field with a bull in it....happy days and no-one died...x.
