This is such a dog shit narrative that I know a lot of Buffalo fans despise.. literally no Sabres fan ever blamed him for anything. We tried to tell everyone for years how insane he was, we were the only fan base that had his back. Buffalo fans turned on him when it came out that he requested a trade BEFORE his injury and the interview after his return game was just the nail in the coffin. If he would’ve handled the situation with maturity, every Sabres fan would’ve loved to watch him lift the cup.

It also shows you don't need to win the draft lotto and get the "generational" player to have a winning team. For everyone crying they didn't win the Bedard sweepstakes this year. If you look at the numbers, the "ordinary" great players, like Stamkos or Patrick Kane, have won 5 Stanley Cups, while the super "generational" talents like McDavid & Lindros haven't won any. Even a guy like Crosby, who has won a lot, the two teams that finished 2nd & 3rd in that draft lotto (Carolina & Anaheim) won cups before Crosby did.

Stars defense has had a really bad problem with watching the puck in the defensive zone this year as well as simply trying to stand and keep sticks in passing lanes while doing that instead of getting involved with their specific guy and get under his stick and/or cover him. I'm absolutely amazed this problem persisted throughout an entire season and man, Jake's really had some struggles in net this playoffs. Positioning issues at times, and what looks like general fundementals issues at others. I mean being a 6'5 goaltender playing from your knees all the time with your arms low is seriously negating how much net he takes up and I also feel like he just doesn't put in half the effort he used to, to try and make saves especially recovery saves and I sure hope he figures something out. I said it before and plenty of my fellow stars fans got mad at me for it that we weren't a stanley cup team with this defense and on and off goaltending, and i'm pretty sad to end up on the right side of things.

That’s what other fanbases don’t understand. We supported the fucking shit out of him until he didn’t show love back. For some reason everyone in the league thinks we’re jealous or butthurt for some reason. If Eichel handled the whole thing with maturity and love for the city/fans I would’ve LOVED to see him lift the cup elsewhere. It’s so easy to be supported in Buffalo, all you have to do is act like you care and unfortunately he didn’t do that. Also I’ve seen so many comments talking about how much he’s matured. It’s SO easy to be mature and likable when you’re on a stacked team.. if he went to Vegas and they sucked hed 100% still be the same player. He gets so much credit for just being in a better situation.

I'll admit, I was skeptical of him joining Vegas with the rumors of him having locker room problems while knowing the history of this team already with some of the player's egos. I thought it was gonna blow up in their faces despite his surgery. I'm glad to have been very wrong about it, and it seems the players have learned from their past overconfidence (for now)

It's almost as if other teams forgot about him or considered him a nonfactor. While the Knights were using a team defence to slow McDavvid by coming at him in layers, clipping him, hitting him, and knocking him down quite often, the Oilers never once took a run at Eichel or roughed him up. It's no wonder he put up great numbers in that series. I've noticed the same issue with the Stars. They've had plenty of chances to make it difficult for Eichel but they just haven't, and it shows on scoreboard.

I don’t where this “talk” was, but we here in Buffalo knew he was great. He was more of a playmaker and a little less of a goal scorer than maybe what we had hoped, but he was always great from day 1. The Sabres at that time had 4 good players and three of them were centers and he put up numbers anyway while being a strong two way player. O’Reilly already proved how bad those teams really were and now Eichel and Reinhart are doing the same thing. The team had to trade those guys for multiple assets because literally no other prospects from that period ever became even decent NHL’ers.

I didn't predict Eichel being a "beast" in the playoffs but I do think that Vegas management acquired hi so as to add a bonified star to an already solid and deep roster that didn't have one. Brady Tkachuk's brother is doing the same in for Florida. Just a side note: when it comes to being a star in the NHL, a player's nationality doesn't matter. A star is a star whether Canadian, Russian, American...it is the individual. I suspect (someone correct me if I'm wrong) that hockey development and training up the ranks is similar worldwide. However, am I the only one to notice that teams with higher Canadian content have a high Stanley Cup rate? Washington had fewer Canadian players when they best Vegas in 2018 but that's because they were better. But even then, there was production from the likes of Jay Beagle and other 4th liners. St. Louis won in 2019 against a Bruins team stacked with Americans. Going back to 2007, Anaheim with more Canadian players beat Ottawa in the finals. In 2011, oddly enough Boston had more Canadians and more players from British Columbia; I guess that year these B.C. went home to claim Stanley Cup. As I write this comment, the Carolina Hurricanes have 4 Canadians and the Dallas Stars have 7. The Florida Panthers and Vegas Golden Knights 13 and 16 respectively and are up 3-0 in their series. So as I said, a player's nationality insofar as being elite isn't so significant (just look at Eichel and Tkachuk) but look at the "ordinary" players...a coincidence? a fluke? Or am I suffering Don Cherry Syndrome or simply out to lunch?

His first run with VGK he was great. Just underwhelming but he got in with the groove and he became a team player. Thats what i think matters. McDavid can be the best player in the world all you want but you dont win cups with 1 player. When they started focusing on McDavid and Draisaitl and shutting them down oilers whole team started being mute and didnt produce anything. That tells you teams win cups not a single player.

I say eichel either goes off with confidence if he wins, or looses all his drive since he’s accomplished the biggest goal in hockey and all the other stars he’s compared to Matthews Mcdavid so on haven’t, I went to a lot of buffalo games since it’s the cheapest seats around and eichel would be the only player that wouldn’t give high fives to kids or when I was 15 he was a rookie I remember thinking it was dope to high-five the players lol but he just rubbed me the wrong way when he would walk by 7+ year olds like he didn’t see there hands I always thought he , thought he was bigger than the game and don’t get me wrong he’s an amazing player

You don't have to be McDavid. McDavid has been in the league 8 years now and about 200 players not McDavid have won Stanley Cups. People keep saying, "He ain't McDavid" like that's some kind of failure. So is Steven Stamkos a failure? Is Patrick Kane? Is Drew Doughty? Is Nikita Kucherov? They're not McDavid either.

Buff has one of the cheapest owners who does not care about winning. Buff had so much more cap room than anyone and refused to spend it. This one buf fan was saying they are just saving that cap room for next season and I said that makes no difference. Buf could have traded that cap for a 1 year rental player or traded that cap just for this season to another team for a prospect which would give the chance to help the team next season.

As a lifelong Sabres fan I can tell you the list is long regarding players whom were supposed to be great on offense that sputtered terribly in Buffalo and then went somewhere else and shined like gold. Buffalo can find and develop goalies and defenseman but have zero clue about offense since the French Connection left.

Does Eichel really need to be the leader in Las Vegas? Isn´t it enough if for him to just be the guy that pushes you over the top in Vegas, the icing on top of a solid cake and the pressure of not having THE ENTIRE team behind his back allows him to flourish more there.

I mean I’m not surprised with his 9 points against Edmonton. You could tell there is a fire in him when he faces the sabres. So why wouldn’t he have a fire within him against a guy on the biggest stage who’s shadow he’s been in since he’s got to the show. If anything I feel Jack had the same pride in him, knocking Connor out of the playoffs.

Eichel always had a kind of Eddie Haskell vibe to him. He even looks like Eddie Haskell, which may be why people don't like him. But it was ridiculous to put all the blame for Buffalo's problems on him. It reminds me, since I'm a Bengals fan in football, of a player named Corey Dillon. Dillon was a great player on a lousy team, and used to get the blame, like the "experts" would say, "Sure he puts up great numbers, but he's a loser and only cares about his personal stats." I'd watch the games and say, "this guy is a great player and busts his butt, and is the last guy who should get blamed for the team stinking because he's their only good player". What happens? He gets traded to New England, is a horse for them, wins a Super Bowl and all the experts are saying, "This guy's a real gamer. A real winner." Which is why you don't listen to experts whose expertise is usually just repeating clichés, easy & thoughtless conclusions, and superficial observations they've heard from other "experts".
