I love this motor, but beware it is not for the faint of heart! Not even close to street legal, loud, and difficult to install for the first-timer. But boy is it worth it if you want all-out performance!

Johnny, I want to thank you for your very informative video's, I was going to buy a hub drive e-bike for $1000 and decided to do some further research when I came across your channel and seen your hub motor vs. mid drive motor comparison, I then watched your video that said the perfect e-bike is probably already in your garage and decided to do a conversion on my full suspension mountain bike that I've had for 25 years, I picked up a bafang 750w mid drive with a 48v 13ah battery for $800 from a Vegas e-bike supplier and installed it myself in less than 2 hours, the very informative video's that you put out really helped me make my decision and have been enjoying my rides every day in a very mountainous terrain in AZ for the past 4+ months, Thank's again for the awesome information and video tutorials, God Bless and thanks to all of our Veterans in the USA.

Great video and good explanation of the motor. Reading through the comments here I think a lot of people are missing the point of what this thing really is. This is not your typical run around town dart through the city ebike setup. This is a serious power motor for people that want to take their bike on dirt trails hills lots of torque very aggressive. If you're looking to just cruise around the city a decent speeds I would stick to the Bafang setup. But, if you want a serious adrenaline machine, this is your huckleberry! Different motors for different riders! 😎

Still haven't seen anything to compare to my mid-drive build with the CYC X1 Stealth. Quite a bit smaller and much more flexibility in mounting options. Comes with programmable 5 or 9 levels of pedal assist with a torque sensor. At the push of a button you can switch between road and race mode. You can program the road mode to be street legal in whatever country you are in and when off road switch to race mode. My gravel build comes in under 55lbs with a 52V/21Ah battery. 74kph on the flats in race mode with more speed available if I switch to a 72V battery to get 2,500 watts. I also added the Box Components Box 2 eBike drivetrain and I can climb anything. And we just built a couple of folding bikes with the same motor. It fits inside the small frame triangle like a glove vertically. Most people wouldn't even realize it was an electric build, depending on battery choice. We've got a 12.8Ah rear rack battery version and a 14Ah Super Shark top tube battery option. Bikes weigh in under 40lbs. Wish I could post a picture of them. Nicest looking folding bikes on the planet. Very stealthy.

@zakwhiting1758 2 жыл бұрын
Hi, very interested in the CYC stealth for a hardtail build. What sort of suspension are you running on your gravel setups? Mostly interested in city roads and light gravel trails and if full suspension is worth a new frame
@FlyingScot911
@FlyingScot911 2 жыл бұрын
@@zakwhiting1758 Hi Zak. I just got back from a ride. Actually, second ride today. First run to the store, but I forgot my cream for my coffee so, darn, I had to ride back into town. I love my hard tail. If I replaced this 12-year-old bike I would have to spend about $2,000 to get the same frame, brake, and shock quality. It just has a lower end Rock Shox front wheel setup. I ride mostly city roads, light gravel, and fairly groomed trails. So pretty much what you describe. If, after close to 3,000 km on my cyc build, I were to do anything different I would add a really good seat post suspension post saddle. They can set you back up to $500. Do I need it? No. Would it improve my quality of life? YES. My 65-year-old ass would appreciate it, but I haven't pulled the trigger on it yet. Which motor model are you considering? I think the CYC Stealth is the perfect combo of power and function. I ride mostly in street mode at pedal assist level 1 or 2. And with up to 9 levels of pedal assist there is a ton of headroom. I put it in race mode sometimes when climbing the mountain trails here, but again these are pretty much groomed trails. Really steep in places, but groomed. The one thing I would recommend considering is the Box components Box 2 ewide drive train if you have just a standard bike that you are converting. I think that was one of my best decisions. Damn bike can climb a wall.

All right Johnny I have a question about gearing a bbs02 for hill climbing. I want to run a 28 tooth lekkie front sprocket for maximum torque have you ever seen someone take apart a rear cassette and move the sixth largest gears out of a 9-speed into the position of the first gear through 6th less high speed more hill climb torque. I hope you understand what I'm trying to say
@scotth5503
@scotth5503 2 жыл бұрын
That's somewhat common on the ebike forums. I haven't done that as even in the lowest (largest) gear, it still rides without issue. I'm running a BBS02, luna 30t, and advent x drivetrain. Also my cassette is riveted together with spiders so the gears I could even swap out are limited.
@m1000black

@@scotth5503 well I appreciate the knowledge that I'm not alone in doing this could you send me any links or share any links so I can get more information cuz it worked at first but I started having shifting issues and I'm not exactly sure what to do to fix it, the chain started seeming to bind up and skip
@scotth5503
@scotth5503 2 жыл бұрын
@@m1000black this is probably the most comprehensive: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/Z71ygNOL25PUoXk.html the forum (endless sphere) posts are mostly "I removed some gears and now I have 5 instead of 8" etc. I wonder if the 'shift ramps' (those notches cut into the sprockets) are causing interference. I had tried rearranging gears on an old drivetrain (combining 10spd and 8spd sprockets to make an 8spd cassette), but the chain would bind on the 6-5 shift and basically rendered the rest of the gears useless. Not sure if I messed up the spacing or it was due to the aforementioned shift ramps, but I abandoned it after wasting several hours trying to get it to shift.

Sweet! I looked into the Cyclone. At the time, without PAS, a double chain, harder installation for a noob & more noise I went with the BBSHD. At the time e-bikes were completely banned in NYC so stealth was important too and the Cyclone is many things but not stealthy;) The Cyclone is definitely an awesome motor but to me crosses out of e-bike territory and into e-moped or e-motorcycle territory. I'm glad I went with the BBSxx motors when I did but today it would be a harder choice.

A game changer? Ebikes need cast rear wheels and motorcycle chains or belts. The two weakest parts on a bicycle are the wheels and drivetrain. To use a bicycle wheel and a bicycle drivetrain for an ebike with more than 100 watts of power is a nightmare of problems and danger. These mid-drives are 750 to 1000 watts, you need heavy gage spokes twice as thick as what you have or a cast wheel and a motorcycle belt or chain. I destroy conventional bikes simply riding them, spokes break, chains and gears wear out, tires wear out, cables wear out. To put this in automobile language: who would buy a car that at 3000 miles you will have to replace 6 tires, the driveshaft, the differential, and all the wheels? And you would have had 10 flat tires by then unless you invested in tires that cost $700.00 each. Bicycles are weak, don't make high power Ebikes out of them. I am waiting for a 150-watt Motor with 5 levels of boost so I can run with just 25-50 watts. IF you want more power buy a motorcycle, it will be much safer, much cheaper, pollute less, and last much, much, MUCH longer. Ebikes today are disposable items, I have a friend from church with $3000.00 invested in an Ebike but is sitting in his garage as a brick, dead with the manufacturer out of business and no way to get a new battery. I told him he will have to buy a spot welder and build his own battery, he looked at me like I was crazy. Ebikes are not ready for consumers yet at a price or quality or value, or safety level we deserve.

Junk display that still doesn't convey enough info. Give me a full color display with watts and remaining battery voltage. Bikes are not at all like motorcycles. They are very human top heavy. There's a reason pro cyclists have broken collar bone scars. These are freakishly talented bike handlers. They are riding with other freaks of nature on closed courses and lucky to push 30mph part of the time. If they can't handle sustained speeds above 20, the average Joe has no business pushing those bounds. It's not like all that extra power is needed to power out of a hairpin on a mtb trail and you already know how negatively all that extra weight impacts handling. So, it is a heavy, lower quality, poor handling, battery eater that is noisey....but it's powerful!
