John great video. Extra tips, if you are using the c1 travel portal you should book with cash and use the points/miles to erase the travel purchace. You will still get 10x on hotels or 5x airfare on the purchase, it will make the points worth 1.1c or 1.05c when you erase the purchase. The VX 300 dollar travel will earn miles for travel purchases in the c1 travel portal, example purchasing 300 dollars in hotel stays will get you 3k miles or 1.5k for flights. I tend not to use the over priced one-way ticket price, in most cases round trip is required. Flying Turkish air round trip from Boston to Manilla is around 5700 dollars((5700/2)-400 fee-142 dollars in lost rewards= a good realistic ~3.4c per points).

My best ever redemption for my Capital One Miles was transferring them to AirFrance/Flying Blue Business class flights to Paris, just like you mentioned! Ok I think there’s one thing that needs to be addressed for cpp from transfer partners. Since you’re looking at least a year out, the flight prices in dollars are super inflated… like by 50-200%. So if you were to actually wait until a good booking time (which capital one does in their travel portal), it will look less like the crazy 5-10 cpp that is often quoted for these deals. That being said, it’s still 2-4 cpp typically, so definitely still the best way to redeem, but not exactly always the home run like people say
@will.7
@will.7 Жыл бұрын
It would be good if you mentioned that this miles game almost always works exclusively for Business/First class tickets. If you don't care about the flight and just want to go economy, it hardly ever makes sense because the final cost in miles will be higher than just buying with cash.
@danielwestover
@danielwestover Жыл бұрын
I disagree. You can often get 20 percent miles added when you transfer to Flying Blue, and some of the economy tickets have crazy good value.
@will.7

@@danielwestover I tried searching for numerous flights on partner's websites, and comparing them to google flights' price in cash but I couldn't find one single economy flight that was cheaper to buy with miles. I would also talk about the opportunity cost of spending so many miles on business class fares. If you blow 70,000 miles on one single flight, you should be also calculating. What is the opportunity cost of that? How many economy flights could I have redeemed for that, same number of miles? Let’s say the answer is you can book a single economy flight for 20,000 miles. That means in my head when you blow 70,000 miles that has an actual cost of around $700 of lost opportunity.

For the travel partner flights, is it cheaper to book a round trip or buy the two flights separately?

Can I convert cash back from my Savor to miles under my spouse’s Venture X? We are account managers on each other’s cards.

I used flying blue as my first award booking to fly my wife and I to Europe for our honeymoon in business class. We got a little over 4 CPP, so I'll definitely look into them again. Now that you mentioned Turkish, I want to check them out for future Asian travel. Do you know if Turkish has sweet spots all over Asia? Or just the Philippines?

Did i understand this correctly, points must be transferred BEFORE you can see the flights? What if what shows up doesn't work?

I know you talk about transferring cashback from the Savor One card to Venture X miles, but can it go the other way? What is the exchange rate? That could help to get the 1 cent-per-point for cash if miles transfer 1:1 to cashback on a non-travel card.

I have had capital one platinum for years and I am just sick of it to be honest I hate it. I stopped using it because they would never increase my limit. Years latter I am still at 500 dollars. I always make sure I pay my bill before even the due date and I can’t use the freaking card like debit card all I can spend on the card is maximum of 10% which is 10 dollars a month like what’s the point of the card?🤦🏼‍♀️

Hi John, how many miles/points would you be needing to fly blue business Airfrance for a family of 4? Would love to see this kind of topic, and how do you transfer your points to the airline partners? I am kinda new to this and just got my VC recently.
