It's only been 4 races since I last uploaded a video on Ferrari, and yet if anything they've got worse, not better. Charles Leclerc has been in contention for a podium in 11 races this year and yet thanks to Ferrari's issues he's only scored 5. So, what do the Scuderia need to change?

I have to wonder if Ferrari's problem is that they've started to become *so* focused on not making mistakes that it's causing them to make mistakes. I'd imagine racing is like any other sport: some anxiety is good (you don't make to be blasé about things) but too much anxiety is bad. The pressure that comes from simply being Ferrari in F1 combined with the pressure that's come from their screw-ups this particular season is just too much for them deal with. *Everyone* knew the hards were a bad idea but Ferrari panicked or tried to be too clever or something and fucked it all up.

I don't think the 2023 car will be as good as this one is. Mercedes is stronger with every race, same goes for RB, while Ferrari engineers get the distinct feeling that none of their work is at any good, so motivation is not the greatest. I mean what is the discussion there? "Build us a better car", "You have the best car and still lose from P1." At this point I would not be 1 bit surprised if Ferrari will fail to show up for the next race just because someone had the date wrong on their calendar.

@code01372
@code01372 Жыл бұрын
i don't really think they're 'bluffing'. if you've watched previous races with red bull and mercedez strategies (2020-2021), you'll most likely always see a red bull come in at the same time as mercedez calling one of their drivers in. it's almost like red bull are stealing their opponents strategy, and forcing them come up with a new one (with the merc drivers either staying out or coming in along with the red bull). you'll also see that pretty much every time red bull have done that, they've also taken the chequered flag. they've done it a few times this year against ferrari as well. i think this because RB have gotten 'bluffed' a lot of time the past few years, yet their strategy level seems to be miles ahead of any other team, so to fall for bluffs are unlikely.

Ferrari didn't create that safety car.. So it's not part of Ferrari's strategy.. So Ferrari just lucky at that race.. And Ferrari's undercut and overcut haven't been effective so far, so even if they are bluffing and intended to use overcut, I doubt Checo would dropped to P4 immediately without any safety car.. And even if they are seriously using undercut and pitted at that lap, Redbull already cover that by pitting Checo..

They have shot themselves in the foot so many times over the years, but it never stops being funny. So, no, not everyone is a Ferrari fan at heart. The problem is Binotto needs to able to sort out the strategy problem. Now if he saw in 2019, There were so many times Ferrari could have competed for the constructors or 2nd place. However due to poor planning (Leclerc 24+ s more than 2nd position in Baku) and Ferrari not pitting Leclerc. Leclerc lost a podium. Solving reliability is very difficult because NOBODY constructs a car to see it break. However strategy is something Ferrari has had 3 years to fix

I think that's also because the Ferrari was so domimant in Austria. Just like the RB was in the years prior due to the ability of cornering fast but now has the advantage of straight line speed. Yeah, that was probably the only time Ferrari backed themselves to have the right strategy. Josh said that the problem with Ferrari is that they stick to what they think and they don't react to what's happening on track, but I felt that Ferrari's main problem was the opposite. They can't back themselves and panic at every little thing that happens on track (covering off George, for example), leading to strategy spaghetti.

Tbh, I think that Ferrari is beyond saving at this point. The issues seem to go far deeper than just the race team, as the deafening silence from the upper management of Ferrari speaks volumes to their commitment to winning championships. John Elkann and Benedetto Vigna are imho at the heart of the problems at Ferrari. Without dedicated and caring people at the top, everything else below them rots in quality. The death of Marchionne was the final nail in the coffin for Ferrari’s title hopes. This year was meant to be a year of looking forward to a great title battle between Ferrari and Red Bull, but instead, this year in particular has shown Ferrari for who they really are-overrated frauds, who don’t deserve the love that they get. To safe face, this team should honestly fuck off from F1.

About Rueda, you forgot to mention that he has been head of strategy at Ferrari for 8 years. So yeah, something needs to be done there. On another note, Ferrari has changed under Binotto, away from public shaming and blame culture. And that is a good thing as that is how Red Bull and Mercedes are also run. Wolff and Horner will never blame any individual on the team, apart from maybe a driver who continues to fuck up majorly. Therefore I would not put much stock in what Binotto says publicly as he refrains from blaming the strategy team (Rueda) because he does not want the team to be as toxic as before. That said, things need to change behind the curtains. Should Binotto be replaced? Let me answer that with another question: Was Ferrari any better under Arrivabene or Domenicali?

Unfortunately, I don't think replacing key people in Ferrari will solve the problem. From the looks of it, Ferrari seems to have a major cultural issue that's along the lines of "Ferrari can do no wrong" and when something goes wrong, all that seems to be done is blame being deflected away from the team in overwhelming proportions. I can completely understand that Binotto wants to protect the team and its staff, but he's too much of a so-called "Nice guy" if that's how it's going. Ferrari needs to accept that it has made mistakes and start acknowledging it more and more, before actually putting in effort to fix them. Mercedes is proving race-by-race that team culture and proper strategy is key to being a force to be reckoned with in F1, even when your car isn't quite there yet relative to the front, whilst Red Bull is showing that a good car and a very talented driver must be complemented with proper strategy to be winning races and championships. Maybe Ferrari should instead be copying them...

Blaming the speed of the car it's an insult to the car itself and most of all to the people inside Maranello who put a lot of themselves in it, expecially if we consider the last TWO PAINFUL YEARS without competitive machinery. But to me the worst mistake of all is not admitting mistakes! Binotto is constantly defending the choices of the pit wall even when they are indefensible. This is not the mentality to win a championship, let alone LEARNING from their mistakes. Never forget Suzuka 2018 qualy where the two drivers exited the pit lane on inters with a DRY track.

That segue into the Masterwork ad was incredible. Ferrari need to get Binotto out, I'm sure there are several amazing strategists that could fill his space. I thought a main strategist left RB earlier this year and if that's the case then maybe she will be going to Ferrari after the break. Something has to be fixed. I think they are so internally political now in their image that anything bad that's said is immediately shut down and they just blame the car rather than themselves. I think the engineers could be replaced, they are an integral part of the driver/team relationship, like you said with Max and GP or Lando and Will. Hell, Lewis and Bono probably have the best and closest relationship as far as engineers/drivers go. Over the years they have built this great relationship and it's evident in so many races. 2020 Silverstone when lewis was on 3 tires and Bono was like freaking out near the end but still trying to remain calm. Or when GP said "If you get on with it" when Max was asking if they could still win it. They're like friends and understand to not take it personal if they argue. It's so important to have someone that understands and is wiling to work with you and actually watches what you're doing rather than telling you to pit as you're dueling. Great video!

What hurts, speaking as a former Ferrari fan, is that we stuck with them through 2020 and 2021. We waited, patiently for a car that could win again. Then this bullshit strategy keeps buggering almost every race. Fire head clown, Binotto and the entire “strategy” team and I will consider pulling for Ferrari again, until then, F Ferrari.

Can we talk about how well the marshall in Austria dealt with the precarious situation of Sainz's burning car? Look at the head-on picture of Sainz hopping out of the car. To stop it from rolling he pushed on the front of the front right tire to turn it so it would be more difficult for the car to roll backwards. If it did start going backwards it would hit the wall and not go down the hill back onto the track.

Will see what happens at Spa with the Mercedes directive I mean TD 039… Bodywork within RV-PLANK may deflect no more than 2mm at the two holes in the plank at XF=1080 and no more than 2mm at the rearmost hole, when the car, without driver, is supported at these positions… man the way they word these things make it so teams try and find a loophole..Ferrari and Red Bull may have to battle Mercedes a bit harder now…

You touched on the problem without directly addressing it. There is an institutional arrogance inside Ferrari like no other competitive team I've ever seen, bred from the Enzo roots and reinforced through the Schumacher years of success. They actually believe the shit the Tifosi chant, they really think they are the best. Their decisions cannot possibly be a mistake because they are Ferrari, everyone else is wrong and they are right. This is why Binotto makes ridiculous claims, becuase at Ferrari, you cannot make a tactical error, you cannot be outplayed by other teams, it must be something else. The Niki Lauda shitbox meme explains it well, you cannot criticise - because it is Ferrari. How can you change for the better if you never make a mistake?

You’re spot on. The whole world can see the problem with Ferrari, but Ferrari themselves. I said it for at least ten years now, that entire Ferrari team MUST be replaced, even more so now, but keep the drivers. Where would RB and, especially, Mercedes be if it wasn’t for Ferrari? Their systematic and consistent incompetence and complete lack of accountability is our rivals gain. They’ve done the same to Alonso, then to Vettel, and now is Leclerc’s turn. Who will want to come and drive for Ferrari when they know the team will fight with you and not for you. Consistent incompetence and unaccountability, these are Ferrari’s main problems.

I'm not that guy to shame people for trying their best at their jobs or making mistakes here and there, but oh my fucking god ferrari's strategists are fucking it up big time. I don't know what's happening behind the scenes but they have to sort themselves out. Carlos being called to box in the middle of the overtake while already going parallel to the pit entry makes me think they just wanna get their message out there and the rest aint their problem. That's not how a team should operate.

The problem I have when people criticise Binotto is the following: Ferrari is an Ultra-Traditionalist company. And in these companies you never admit that you or your employees did anything wrong. Never. You also say stuff like "I see no reason for changes in the team" despite everyone and their mother knowing that this is what is needing to happen. It doesn't mean that he believes that, nor that the rest of the team does. It's just shows that Ferrari is somehow stuck a few decades ago (I mean they were sponsored by Marlboro until last year). But in earlier company culture you always have a "faulty charge" or a "bad product" due to unforseen circumstances and NEVER because you did a mistake. This isn't how many people want to see companies operate anymore, it's feels almost antique, hence the partially over the top judgements about it (which do not consider that f.e. Binotto says A and does B, the expect him to say A and do A) But also: Binotto is a freaking great engineer, hes the last - real Italian - success story at Ferrari... When he was in the engine department when Schumi was still active.... But he isn't a leader. But at least he turned the ship around and made Ferrari built the first competitive car in almost 4 years....
