Join The Adventure: Koh Tao, Thailand
Sometimes, we visit places and feel impartial to them, like Bali. Other times, we visit a place that affects us all the way in our bones. That is what Koh Tao did to us. We were not expecting to fall in love with this little island.
A colleague of Joel's told us that we should go to Koh Tao for the marine life; that is what we had planned for our four days there. However, NOTHING went as we had hoped.
We were instantly struck by the location of our hotel and our incredible view. Our room had a private patio that, at night, hung over the water and, during the day, looked out over the ocean.
The first few days, we battled air conditioning issues in our room. It would work, then it would shut off for hours, then back on, and off again. Since it was July, it was hot, and I wasn't feeling the best, and being hot made it worse.
We could have left the hotel and stayed at another one, and we almost did several times. However, we couldn't bring ourselves to leave. There was something special about the Koh Tao Heritage that we loved. The owner and all the employees were amazing, so we stayed instead of packing, unpacking, and packing repeatedly.
We snorkeled, enjoyed the pool, and loved walking down the main strip of the island. At night, it really came alive with so many people walking around, and when we had had enough exploring, we went back to our deck to watch the lightning and enjoy the cool breeze.
Even though I got sick and was only there for four days, we will return to this island someday. It is a special place that we will always admire.
