So why did it work with Miley?
@musicfreak329932 ай бұрын
@@Kiran37369because even though little girls liked Hannah Montana, as the original poster commented pre teens also liked her. For some reason Miley wasn’t just viewed as a kid star she was all over tabloids by sixteen years old for dating nick jonas, feuds with other Disney girls, leaked scandalous pictures. All of these things made Miley more famous and more talked about to the fact she was on main stream adult radio while still on Disney channel with songs. Also, unlike jojo, Miley is a true singer and her image is believable. She slayed with massive hits while still on Disney like party in the USA.. that song is a classic and she was only like 16/17 when she released it. While I see the comparison of shedding the kiddie image, I think Miley was always taken more seriously as an actual singer by her fans and others as well. This helped her transition to adulthood stardom
@roxycauldwell5442 ай бұрын
@Kiran37369 Disney specifically set their stars up well for future careers. Hannah Montana also had some pretty good bangers that were taken pretty seriously that people still enjoy. They also needed to be good singers in the first place upon being picked for their leading roles, and Jojo is not a singer at all, yet she repeatedly tries to force it. Jojo Siwa was moreso set up for maybe shooting for the gymnastics Olympics. Dance is kind of a limited avenue in pop culture.

Little Richard released rock n roll in the 1950s that was queer coded but covert enough to have plausible deniability. Disco was massive in the 1970s. House music originated in the 1980s. Synth-pop also took off in the 1980s. Bronski Beat released "Smalltown Boy" in 1984, that's a strong example from the genre. I mean as far back as the 1920s there was Bessie Smith writing overtly Sapphic blues songs, going all the way up to the 2010s where hyperpop was largely originated by LGBT artists. Not to mention icons like Elton John, Freddie Mercury, and George Michael to name just three. Then there's just the fact that pop music is beloved by queer audiences. Gay nights have been blasting out pop for decades, pop artists become gay icons, and regularly perform at Pride and queer club nights. I haven't heard her new song, but given the huge, well documented history of "gay pop" I can't believe it's going to be anything groundbreaking if she believes releasing an overtly gay pop song is unique.

The reason no one is accepting her "bad girl" era is because its so not authentic. Its like in jo jos eyes it is a right of passage for the goodie kids of disney and Nickelodeon to suddenly become bad asses. So she had to go around and build hype for her new change in style and attitude which is what made everyone realize this is just another character and not natural progression. People like miley and brittney spears and Bella thorne were contracted to be images of people they werent and like most teenagers went through a stage of finding themselves and rebelling against what was PUT ON them not by their choice. Where JoJo was always the silly girl with bows and thats what made her popular and now put of nowhere shes like oh im going thru my BANGERZ FAZE. Like sweetie, that isnt a thing. I wish "celebrities" would just realize that, just because you're famous, doesn't mean you need to try and pivot into a career in music. I'd argue that if your calling isn't music, then there's no point in getting involved in the music industry. Jojo Siwa in particular has been outed as someone who bought the rights to someone else's song, changed only one of the lyrics, and then passed it off as if she wrote it. She may not have even done any of the vocals. Like, whats even the purpose of doing music at that point? To make money? Cause you're not adding anything of value to the music industry.
@Justauri-asdfghjkl2 ай бұрын
This applies to more than just music - it also applies to bs products like drop shipped clothes and skincare lines
@JKDC972 ай бұрын
@@Justauri-asdfghjkl I'd agree with that too, but I made this specific to music because, as an art, I expect to get something personal from the artist, some passion, something deep within themselves. It defeats the purpose of music as an expressive medium to just buy the rights to someone else's song and use someone else's vocals and pass it off as your own. It becomes just like any other commodity thats bought and sold (like skincare and make up like you mentioned) and ceases to be an extension of a musician's artistic expression.

The song sucks but she's getting millions of views from this so something is working

I think the song is just so dated that it sucks. Pair that with an someone that isn’t a strong vocalist, doesn’t have the artistic direction, and a lack of self identity, you get a mess of a final product. Back in the 2010s this could have been a low key hit and possibly a smash hit with the right artist. Jojo just wasn’t that person. The weak parts of the song show through when she performs it. The updated production sucks butt too
