Mezzos have dark voices and a low sopranos voice and tessitura sits higher than any mezzo but their voices don’t sit as high as other sopranos or even average sopranos. So they are still in the soprano voice type jus their voices sit a little lowers

Well only range doesn't guarantee voice type. Lisa Fischer who's a soprano can sustain and project A2 comfortably better than what Jojo can do. Jojo's voice lacks weight to be a mezzo

That is why when I was speaking In regards to soprano traits i mentioned a light soprano, mid range etc. Then i said most people define mezzo as being a heavier timbre with dark color did not say much about range, because I know there are mezzo’s like Kim Burrell who can sustain G#5 way more comfortably than Jojo ever could. Again , taking into account color, timbre, etc we’ve always referred to Beyonce as a mezzo and up until around 2016 her voice has always been very light, girly and feminine with lots of similarities to Jojo. She even has more ease in her upper register than Jojo yet she’s 100% always been a mezzo and Jojo is not. I just find it comical slightly flawed.

@@allykelly Kim Burrell sustains G#5 with intentional strain, the women has sustained A5’s Bb5’s all that which is not in Jojo’s level of comfortability however you chop it up, and I never said that it was in belt. She’s definitely a mixer everyone knows that. I also seen the IG video of Jojo in the green top referring to herself as a soprano after she got done saying she was not very familiar with all of the vocal terms and her also saying in that same video she’s more comfortable singing low. You also are the first person I’ve ever heard to say Beyonce was not a mezzo 😂because as of 2023 the woman is definitely a mezzo. AGAIN you are proving my point though this goes back to what i was saying we do and do not classify mezzo because of belting being small or not as large however we classify sopranos in all of these small sub categories. Light soprano, Low soprano, etc but mezzo is like a one way street. Comical.

At her best they had well opened D5/Eb5 but there is inconsistency Ailee's development at F5 beat Luna very easily Luna even had rough/shouty D5 in King of mask singer (stylistic or whatever)

Almost everything about this video is accurate except her voice type. Jojo is a true mezzo soprano, just a high one, a coloratura mezzo soprano to be specific. She has the same vocal face as Beyoncé and Faouzia for reference. Don't believe everything you hear on the internet.

A LIGHT GIRLISH soprano at that one tho (which should've give you awareness/convince you that she's pretty much as far as someone can be from mezzo, even if 'light' mezzo). Very identical voice to tori Kelly, although she has lower tessitura overall but her timbre and density is clearly the pure exceptions and still allign holistically.

I mean Jojo is a lower soprano with a small vocal tract + she's basically a lowered version of typical soprano's (same with Bey in this case where I used to think she's a mezzo due to her miscarriage but in reality, she still a regular soprano who puts less effort or ease in her middle voice especially around A4-D5 which have the effort of soprano's)

And Jojo became noticeably known as sounding youthful, bright (where typical known for LIGHT sopranos) but more difficult sounding especially from A4 and above +she never showed that MUCH EFFORT and INTENSITY in her middle voice compared to the actual mezzo such as Adele,Miley or Jiyoung from big mama

@@allykelly that's an overstatement. She's not even projecting down there. Her lows are muffled. And being "belty" on E4/F4 has to do with her approach. It doesn't make her lower set. The fact that she brings metallic belts so high says otherwise.
