There's more to this. One of the broadcasters laughing at Bucknor was Bob Brenly, who couldn't stand Bucknor when he managed due to his horrendous strike zone. Brenly was once tossed from a game while protecting Curt Schilling from getting ejected in the first inning after a Bucknor Special. After that fiery argument, Brenly threw a ball bucket on the field before heading to the clubhouse. Brenly has had to restrain himself on every broadcast involving Bucknor since.

This is spot on. Umpire wanting a d*ck-swinging competition with a manager says it all. Literally no-one's at the ballpark, or watching TV, to see the ump. He should be faceless, nameless, and under the radar. Human error is one thing, but CB Bucknor's attitude (and some other 'high profile' umps) is so wrong. Everyone should stand shoulder to shoulder against 'em - both teams, both benches, both sets of supporters.

Welcome to the player and coach show. No one in these comment sections has a nuanced idea of why umpires behave this way, and why they are right to. Fuck robo-umps, fuck multi-millionaire crybabys whining when they could have had a better at bat despite an iffy call. Coaches and players let their egos get in the way of their choices ALL THE TIME. Umpires are generally much more professional, and frankly, it was satisfying to finally watch an umpire say something truly mean to a coach. Agreed and it would absolutely be the thing that fixes this garbage more than anything else. If you have one team walking out of the game early on, within the first 3 innings, fans would be pissed and want a refund. Owners would refuse, it would turn into a legal battle, and it would get very messy for MLB optically. Possibly even worse than the roids. You want change you impact owners purse strings. Watch how quickly this gets fixed. Watch how fast robo umps get put in and garbage umpires like Angel or Bucknor get thrown out despite the union protecting them. But it would never happen because players want their checks, managers want their job, and even a trash win against a garbage team like the Pirates matters in some of their minds.

Isn't it crazy that the NFL can hire referees who take torrents of abuse and still keep a cool head without ejecting anyone, but MLB can't find one single guy to be an umpire that doesn't want to be the center of attention? It's almost as if they train umps on how to talk back to guys who argue, rather than train them on how to call balls and strikes.

I think it’s atleast a little better in the NFL because the refs give penalties that effect the game. Push a ref in the heat of the moment in the NFL you would get a fine, maybe ejected, and the other team would get yards. The MLB you would get suspended for multiple games.

Just go automated SZ. Problem solved. And the offense would drastically increase. It’s 2022. It’s not ok for a ball to be called a strike. It drastically puts the already disadvantaged offense in an even more precarious spot. And pitchers are simply too good to be given extra room. The average fastball continues to increase while the overall batting average continue to decrease. Pitchers don’t need ANY extra help!
@adamplace1414
@adamplace1414 Жыл бұрын
@@SchrodingerMil that may be so, but even when coaches blow their top over a call in football, the ref doesn't start yelling back, and he doesn't toss the coach from the game. Just check out some of the videos where miked up coaches yell at officials - it's just as bad as baseball, if not more so, and yet somehow they let it just roll off of them. It's clearly within the ability of a baseball umpire, as a human being, to refrain from engaging, but they just don't. I don't get it.

the problem is age. all the really bad umps are old and can't track a 90+ mph ball. so they either guess, or base the call on the catcher. which is why if a catcher sets up inside but the pitch in down the middle they will call it a ball. because the cathcer had to reach to catch it so it must have been outside.

Its also hilarious that CB thinks he is more important than a manager of a professional baseball team. The problem with the MLB’s umpire Union is that their contract makes it hard for the league to get rid of umpires. In the NFL, if an official make a really bad call, or blows a penalty enforcement, the crew can get suspended for a wrong penalty enforcement or fired for bad calls during the season. Also, officials get rehired every year, or not.

This isn't some cancel culture bullshit, this is a man who is doing his job poorly because of his ego. Blatantly seeking out a fight in the way he does in this clip, then immediately making it personal, as you pointed out. Frankly, the accountability you are asking for is for him to be replaced by someone competent. I am very comfortable with this, personally.
