No final showdown between Jon Snow vs. Night King. At this point we were robbed, folks.

Everything building up to this...... and Arya does it with a fucking stabby stab... a whole... eight... fucking seasons of buildup between Jon and the night king... and Arya kills him... all for a fucking “yaaaaasss Queen” moment..... way to go HBO... you’ve screwed the pooch on this one

Of all the stupid things, Jon being completely surrounded by wights and surviving to shout at the dragon within the gates is underrated

The most incredible climax to a series that no one got to see. It was like finally getting to sleep with the hot girl but you were drunk

The battle of Castle Black felt like the peak of Jon’s arc of becoming a leader. I was hoping to see Jon LEAD during this battle but he gets like 2 lines and doesn’t interact with anyone. Should’ve been a Jon Snow speech to the army of winterfell to start the battle. Seeing characters like Jaime follow Jon’s orders would be so emotional.

Could have been the best series ever if it wasnt for the ending!

*THIS IS THE MOMENT THE EPISODE NEEDED TO END* Looking like all hope was lost. jon separated from Rhegal and surrounded by Death. Dany’s Dragonfire did nothing. Dothraki are gone, Unsullied feeling fear, Northman and main characters dreading what comes next and the White Walkers Enter the Castle. Then 8x4 Picks up with Dany & Drogon saving Jon but I would like to think that Rhegal saves him since it would show the two start to form a bond. And then a straight cut off to the White Walkers actually killing main characters. Podrick, Tormund, Davos, Beric, and hell maybe even Brienne. Ugh Winter should have at least been two episodes…

This just goes to show that the Night King was actually threatened by Jon. He's only one man, and given They already have beef you'd think the Night King would want to kill him personally. But he doesn't risk it

Even worse than not seeing Jon and the NK fight, is seeing the NK's other white walkers do anything aside from sit on their horses and then stroll up to the gate and then just appear in the woods , like they really should have been shown killing their own fair share with the having their own magical strength as when Jon got his ass nearly handed to him by one at Hardhome.

If this show still had integrity, Jon Snow would've died right there.

Okay, how about this : First we have The Night King vs Jon Snow... fight with their sword, it is an epic battle, until Jon Snow kick The Night King, as he fall, drogon with Dany flying above him and Drogon burns The Night King, we know it doesn't work, but still, the flame is there, then because of it The Night King doesn't see when Jon Snow flying stabs him in the heart. As the Night King shattered into piece of ice, Jon Snow armor burn with fire, but, because of he is a targaryen he doesn't burned.... Dany shocked... and it is the ending for episode 3. We have everything.... ice and fire ♡

8 seasons building up to Jon snow aka Azor Ahai fighting and beating the night king, do we get a badass 1v1? no, we get dead men just standing in his way and magic wizard arya getting the kill, jon doesnt even need to kill him but at least let him fight.

I’m pumped for the new series, I hope they take it as serious, even better quality, such a good story, hard to catch on at first, but when you do it’s amazing. All the side story’s of character development, amazing series one of the best.

The Stark siblings could've both had the glory. Jon 1v1'ing the Night King but over time, unable to press the attack and he starts losing the fight. Just as the Night King is about to end him, THEN you can chuck Arya in there somewhere

Imagine this right, final battle night king is walking, but in the distance he sees Jon, instead of raising the dead, they have a long and dualistic fight, much more skilled than Ser Arthur dayne Vs Ned and just as the night king has the upper hand, Arya comes in from behind and tries to stab him, only to be caught by the night king but then Jon stabs him in the back with long claw…

*Its bad enough he died in a single stab.* *Its worse knowing Jon never had a final battle to the death.* *It laughable knowing the ice in my fridge is harder to break than him.🤣*

This is awesome

That shot of the white walkers approaching was awesome. The music & cinematography in this episode were just spectacular. Yeah it was a bit dark but the opening literally gave me anxiety waiting for the attack. Didn’t love the Arya twist but it was a surprise. I just can’t bring myself to hate on this episode like so many.

As for me, this is quite logical, if John ran up and defeated him in a sword fight, everyone would shout "why didn't the Night King resurrect the corpses?"

Okay sure, let Arya be the one to kill the Night King. BUT, make Jon the one to slay the Ice Dragon. He's the only one who can since he has both Targareyen and Stark Blood.

The Battle of the Bastards spoiled fans for giving them exactly what they had in their heads for a showdown. Really NO other TV show has done something like that before or since.

This battle should have been like 3 EP, the night king should have stayed back and raised all the dead, and make everyone realize it's not a game, basically if you die you're mine, he should've left winterfell and just marched to kings landing and have guerilla battles along the way

Great scene. Now imagine this show would’ve been good still, seeing our favorite characters team up. And imagine actually being afraid for them dying. And imagine actually seeing them with blue eyes. But no, we got shells of their formers selfs with plotarmor.

Just think, they went to all the trouble to get Jon in this position with the night king just to not have a final fight because they “wanted to avoid the unexpected”

I had forgotten about this. There's no way Jon Snow (or anyone else) could survive this number of wights. It'd make much more sense (and much less heroical) for Jon Snow to quickly retreat and run like a madman away from it all.

Watching Hardhome after this is a joke. The stare down Jon and NK had was never paid off

One thing i always loved about the night king and the white walkers is that they are never egotistic. The guy was able to one shot a dragon, you'd think he'll be able to handle jon snow if he wanted. But why bother? Let's just respawn an entire army, he's not here to duel anyone. That makes him so much more terrifying: he wont make dumb mistakes. Well... at least he wont make dumb mistakes until the last 10 minutes of the episode. For the rest of the show he was a tactical genius.

This is the 1st time watching this scene ever since it aired. And it still hurts knowing arya is the one that kills him. Fuck im depressed again.

Actually criminal how Jon wasn't the one to put down the Night King but was in fact D&D's favourite mary sue.

People seem to think this was done out of stupidity, but they should realize the way the showrunners treated their own setup of "Jon Snow vs. Night King" was totally on purpose. It was (among others) one big middle finger to the audience, and they even framed it as "subverting expectations", as if that goal justified producing nonsense. In hindsight, the smug look on the Night King's face before he re-raises the dead says it all: there will be no pay-off, no answers to all the questions from seven seasons, no resolution to my backstory, I am just another generic avatar of evil with no purpose but to murder everyone for some reason or other. Anything else would have been traditional story-telling, and you cannot have that if you are trying to ingratiate yourself with your woke, post-modernistic bubble.

Theon should have had a chance to abandon Bran, but instead refused to run even when the night king approached. After being mortally wounded, he should have killed the night king before dying.

Here is my theory.. The night King was supposed to die fighting Jon and a one-on-one in that very moment. Ending it once and for all. And it would have been done with the dagger. When brand decided to give the dagger to Aria he took a gambling risk that she would be the one to have it in the moment she needed it. Basically the event of him fighting Jon doesn't happen Arya needs it but in the event that it does happen Jon needs it. The night King knows that Jon is the one that put him down in that moment if he fights him. He knows because of how he's connected to Bran. He can see moments of the past present and future. So instead of an epic battle between the two the night King was too afraid of John in that moment and decided bran was more important which ultimately LED his demise because bran but his money on Aria and the night King. And then eventually acquired the throne. The man's been playing chess while everyone else was playing checkers.

Canny believed we never got a fight between them. Would have been so much better if Arya jumped in to save Jon from the night king instead of Jon having a screaming match with vicerion. Absolute shitshow, like perfect opportunity to have Jon, Brianne, Jamie, the hound, tormund, and the unsullied commander (can’t remember his name) going head to head against the walkers generals

I loved the battle, the buildup, the fighting. But the end was just so dissapointing. This was atleast a buildup for the night king's possible death.

When the night king raised the dead, Jons dragon could have come from behind and roasted everyone, the fire would not have bothered Jon being targaryen or the Night King, then out of the flames you would see Jons sword flying into the Night Kings chest, better conclusion to him I think

I remember when I first saw a clip of GOT....it was the Hardhome episode towards the end where I saw the Night King raise everyone back and Jon in the boat. I thought to myself "whooaaa Blue Demon, what's this all about??" Nevertheless it peaked my curiosity and thus begin my long binge journey of GOT......only to have it end like this in season 8. Woe is me :(

This scene was literally the biggest c*ck tease in the history of television…..and we all got blue balled

They botched this moment so terribly…as soon as the night king turned around they could’ve gave Jon some epic pre battle dialogue, and we could’ve heard the night king finally speak to him while circling one another before having an epic duel…but no…they let fucking Arya kill him after doing this and summoning already dead wights…lol. What a ball drop man. The tension would’ve been palpable building up to the fight they spent basically 8 seasons eluding to.

It drives me insane if Jon hadn't paused just to make unsettling eye contact with the dude, he might've covered the rest of the distance before he got surrounded

Imagine. What could have been with this scene. Instead the greatest threat to the world was killed by sleight of hand.

I remember when I saw the Lord of the Rings for the first time, I thought Gandalf was ment to have a final duel with the Witch King at the Battle of Minas Tirith. And when Gandalf was defeated and thrown of his horse, and his staff broken, I thought "well, then Theoden has to finish the work". And then the Witch King proceeded to thrown Theoden off his horse. And were two "unlikely heroes", Pipin and Eowyn, who teamed against the Witch King to save a deadly hurt Theoden, and the day, and do the job. So Tolkien did killed the heroic tale's most important moment here, the duel between the hero and the evil villain (because, while the Witch King is not the main villain in the trilogy, it is the physical incarnation of evil we get to see) but then... Why Arya and Night King duel is not as good? Why do we feel so bad for John, that he did not get his heroic moment? IDK... It felt so bad. I can't see Arya as an unlikely hero, like I saw Eowyn and Pipin become. I see Arya as a plot killer.
