"The first time I ever really listened to Kyle Kulinski’s show was in the back of a cab last summer. The driver had his phone hooked up through the stereo and was pumping out an episode through the car speakers - loudly, as if looking to convert a captive audience.
“Do you like Kyle Kulinski?”
The driver, Ahmed, was a recent immigrant and apparently a die-hard fan of Secular Talk, the political talk show that Kulinski broadcasts on KZfaq. I told him, yes, in fact. I do like Kulinski, had come across his show several years ago, and, all things considered, he seemed pretty good.
“He understands what we’re up against,” Ahmed said. “Like Bernie.”
But I was surprised to hear Kulinski’s name mentioned in the same breath as Bernie Sanders, particularly with such adoration. Because what I did remember about Kulinski’s show struck me as mostly capital-P “progressive” takes on the news - the left wing of the Netroots crowd more than the democratic socialism Sanders has popularized.
It’s an impression that wasn’t entirely incorrect.
“I have no time for philosophical, airy bullshit,” Kulinski tells me from his home in Westchester, New York. “I don’t want to hear about Lenin. I don’t want to hear about Marx. I just want a super plainspoken, straightforward agenda with a straightforward way of selling it.”
With over 800,000 subscribers and nearly 670 million total views on KZfaq, selling a progressive agenda is clearly something Kulinski knows how to do - even Democracy Now, the long-standing flagship of progressive media, cannot match his reach on the platform. Chapo Trap House can certainly boast a wildly devoted fan base (and a not insignificant degree of media influence), but their audience is roughly half the size of Kulinski’s.
While Secular Talk might be more likely to be looped in with the progressive networks around Air America and Pacifica alums like Sam Seder than the more resolutely socialist world, Kulinski’s fiery rhetoric, razor-sharp class instincts, and knack for withering takedowns sets him apart from his peers. Judging by his rhetoric alone, he’s closer to a Eugene Debs than a Chris Hayes.
But unlike Hayes, Amy Goodman, or his friend Cenk Uygur of The Young Turks - who began airing Secular Talk on his web network seven years ago - the thirty-two-year-old Kulinski is virtually invisible in the mainstream media. Despite his enormous fan base, his show has never once been mentioned in the obligatory trend pieces on “the Millennial Left” pumped out by the prestige media. Nor has Kulinski’s name ever popped up at all in the New York Times, Vox, the New Yorker, New York Magazine, or the Washington Post, despite his leading role in cofounding Justice Democrats, the organization widely credited with sweeping Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and the rest of “the Squad” to power.
Just last week, his Wikipedia page was deleted. The reason? “There is very simply no [reliable source] coverage of this person,” according to one moderator. In new media, he’s king - the Sean Hannity of the Berniecrat left. In old media, he’s nobody.
I suspect there are a few reasons for that. There is nothing “cool” about Kulinski’s show. (As a friend put it, “‘Welcome to Secular Talk’ sounds like something you’d hear on Egyptian radio.”) His no-nonsense social-democratic politics won’t get him much cred with the Full Communism crowd. He records his show not in Brooklyn or Los Angeles, but in a studio he built himself in his modest Westchester home. His hair is too groomed and his taste in clothes too preppy to qualify as “Dirtbag Left.” Nor has he ever attended an n+1 release party. “Not only have I not attended one,” he says, “I have no idea what that means.”
And yet he’s astonishingly plugged-in for a young man in the suburbs. Wondering how Sanders ended up on the Joe Rogan Experience? Kulinski, a frequent guest on Rogan’s wildly popular show, introduced them. “You make the most sense to me,” Rogan told Kulinski on a recent episode. “You’re a normal person.”
Much like Sanders himself, Kulinski’s show has a massive audience that just doesn’t compute with our media’s understanding of “what the kids want” or even “what the left-wing kids want.”
It’s probably for the best - the very woke and very WASP-ish decorum haunting much of the media world is nowhere to be found in Secular Talk. “Corporate Democrats over-focus on identity as a trick to divert you from the issues that unite us all - class issues,” he said on a recent episode.

Jon is being modest when saying it was just a protest vote that lead to him being the most trusted in media. What happened when he left the daily show? No one else could quite fill the role and go beyond. John Oliver has probably done the best, but he fits well in his current role. As a veteran, it was awesome to see Jon attach his name to and go to bat for 9/11 responders. The speech he gave in one of those addressing of congress was one of the greatest speeches I've ever heard. Sure, he lacks some of the experience on being a politician, but a president is about being a leader of man. He can do that better than anyone else I can see in congress or otherwise. Anyone that's 30-40 years old instantly know who Jon Stewart is and will most likely trust that he is a man of principle. Younger people that discover him seem to really like him. He has never failed to win a crowd over. The only issue is that John has consistently and openly talked about not being interested in any political career. He's been having to answer questions like this for decades.

(for different reasons) It's the same reasons, different "callings". I've only contributed money to two presidential politicians. Ron Paul and Bernie Sanders. It's sounds antithetical, it's not. I contributed to people that knew the system and weren't beholden to it at all.

!,....."Why somebody like you should run." ...! Hmm; already we have evidence a comedian can do a pretty good job of running a country, Volodymyr Zelenskyy the President of Ukraine, while also standing up against one of the world's most powerful authoritarians, Russia's President Vladimir Putin. Mr Stewart has done masterful job revealing all the major wrongs with our government, along with how American life and society has steadily marched backwards away from the ideals she was founded on for the last several decades...while mixing in a sophisticated, intelligent dose of humor all along the way. "Humor is the best medicine" has proven true, once again. Excellent! IMHO, regardless who becomes POTUS this November, Jon needs to begin (if he already isn't) putting together his Platform's road-map, injecting it into his already established audience, how to combat, and reverse the many issues within our government that need addressing to get our Nation back to "of the people, by the people, and for the people", instead of the multi-millionaire, and their elitist, wealth-class cronies that now infest congress. Similar approaches, likewise, need formulated, and presented (perhaps to start with as mere challenges to the status quo), on how to rain-in the amoral nature of SCOTUS; as well as the rest of our Judicial System, top-down! Our Nation is sick, has been sick for sometime now. Its legal, ethical, and performative standards all need a good tune-up, if not a great big kick in the ass. As a body we have been at once politically lethargic, disinterested in, and kept distracted by a never-ending sequence of cleverly crafted distractions and conflated events designed to keep meaningful pressure off elected officials...and it shows by their less than lac-luster job performances. This has to be changed; much larger percentages of "the average American" public have to be energized into proactive'ism if any meaningful, positive change for the better for the majority of us is to begin to take hold, last long enough to trickle-up into a revitalized Federal government. It will not be easy, and it will not be quick, our Nation has been too sick for too long for National vitality for all of us to suddenly reemerge, but it must if America is to survive, and all that at core hinges on greater, passionate participation by the "other 99% of us", our middle and lower class's participation. That's where Jon's appeal is most strong; that is where Jon's strength will grow from. Joh will not be able to do anywhere near all of this on his own, shouldn't be expected to either. Rather, from within the existing, growing body of Progressive social media's rising stars, along with the few rare jewels of pro-people thinkers already in Congress there exists a wide field of passionate, intelligent, sophisticated help he can choose and craft from. Likewise, within corporate America there also exists similar numbers of "the bottom-line is not the bottom-line" business leaders who should be melded into Joh's inner circles of Lead by Example portfolio. Nuff said for now.

It depends on your goal and your theory about how to secure a whitehouse electoral win. I really like Alex Lichtman's 13 keys. In that system being the incumbent and not having a serious primary challenge are big components of getting elected. If the goal is to prevent Trump from getting into office, and if your theory of how to do that aligns with the 13 keys method, then the correct thing is to not run a primary challenge. If your goal is different (there are rational reasons to prefer other goals) or if you disagree with that model (there are rational reasons to disagree with the 13 keys) then you may of course feel differently. But there is a rational basis for Jon to not run until 2028, assuming he is open to running at all.

I still have a Stuart/Colbert 2008 magnet on my fridge. Jon Stewart has brains, wit and empathy, qualities I've only seen from Bernie. If you can hear us Jon? Please run.

Ronald Reagan was a movie star. Clint Eastwood was a mayor. We don't need year long campaigns. The political celebrity of someone like Taylor Swift or Dolly Parton could sweep the country overnight.

Jon Stewart should run for president with a preselected progressive VP candidate, and once he wins the election, resign within the first year.

Shoot, Kyle makes a great point about the viability of Jon as a political outsider. Many of the people I talk to on the left are wary of established politicians, and more likely to vote for someone in the public eye. His history of embarrassing Republicans is even better.

2 of 2: *This is how you always need to vote:* We must fully resist and _always vote_ against (& less authoritarian than) both the Democratic *and* Republican Parties- including Trump, Vivek Ramaswamy, Rand Paul (He’s _no_ Ron Paul), Warren Davidson, Ron Johnson, and all other Republicans. For _all_ public positions. And this same strategy applies against the same one or more party-monopolies in _all_ countries worldwide. Real libertarians will never be Republicans or Republican loyalists. Never vote for _any_ Democratic member or loyalist either. You can always _write-in_ an anti-authoritarian person if no candidates for a position fit that bill. This will continuously reduce the power of _all_ authoritarian parties in the party monopolies. Until our task is complete. Repeat strategy for all new authoritarian parties that emerge.

Jon is underselling himself especially now after he's shown his ability to effectively get shit done in DC with both the PACT Act and the 9/11 Responders Aid. I judge Jon on those times he's gotten serious and my judgement is...he is worthy and would have my vote in a heartbeat.
