+Aref M.Y. Awesome!! The ignorant US populace knows nothing outside their borders - state borders I should say, almost 100% due to the "news". Yet OReilly hated the French so much for not joing the US military into turning ancient Assyria into a wasteland, that he and his cronies decided Frenchfries should be called 'freedom fries. He chided Colbert thinking he was French. American citizans have no clue there are millions of Arab Christians, Persian Christians, most of bombed Lebanon is Christian, etc. - Thanks to the 'news'. My neighbor thought Cambodia was in Africa... I miss George Carlin also. His last monolog was so on point. God bless the Palestinians, all of them.

doesn't it kind of feel a little darker without jon constantly calling bull shit on the media and politics, I am sure there will be others but; jon stewart was genuinely caring about what he did, and he did it with passion. It is just kind of difficult to picture the daily show without stewart.

Not to mention the longevity of his reign of doing so. I'm 30 years old and I have grown up watching the daily show and he was there through some of the toughest days this nation has seen in a while and he wasn't afraid to hold the people responsible accountable. What he did for first responders on 9/11 was truly amazing. His ability to go after people with his fact filled satire gave my generation a voice to stand up against corrupt politicians or ridiculous news correspondents. Like you said it feels like a dark era

This documentary was great, but I thought Jon's legacy outside of the United States deserved a mention. I am, of course, talking about Bassem Youssef's Al-Bernameg, which had around 5 million people from all over the Arab world tuning in for each episode. Youssef's story is incredible. He was, in fact, called 'The Jon Stewart of Egypt'!

I agree so much. The documentary was great and here in the Middle East we really appreciate everything John Stewart has done for Bassem Youssef. I am an American born Israeli and as for John Stewart and his leaving public life, I feel the same emotional vacuum that I feel from the assassination of Yitzak Rabin.

Jon Stewart is the best TV host/commentator I've seen since the great Johnny Carson. (He'd probably cringe after hearing that.) Such was his respect for all the writers and producers and technical staff at Comedy Central, whose combined daily efforts allowed Stewart to shine when the harsh TV lights came on.) Stewart's reign of the 11:00 PM slot shows he's so much more than a comedian: he was the voice that engaged and entertained and educated everybody from baby boomers to Generation-Xers to millennials in a way no other entertainer has been able to achieve. He could deftly perform a consistently entertaining, funny and thought provoking monologue ranging from the absurd to the joyful, from the lightest and silliest of topics to the most serious and relevant. In the second segment he loved playing the straight man to his many correspondents' satirical-but-on-point pieces from the desk, or from a "remote" location. Usually about fifteen feet to Stewart's left. Then do a great job of interviewing actors and comedians to authors, legislators, world leaders and ocasionally truly inspiring people like Malala Yoysefzai. And then close with a moment of zen, a last look at the absurd in our daily lives. All that in only about 21 minutes of air time! As times passes I'll remember his great comedy and timing, his irrepressible wit and his lampooning of politicians--especially those on the right.. But what I'll remember most about Jon Stewart is his humanity; those rare instances where he generously allowed us to peek into his soul as he attempted to make sense out of many tragic times in America: sharing his sadness but also his hopefulness and optimism during the monologue of his first show after 9-11; his scathing, unarguable case for gun reform; and using his celebrity to shine a light on injustice. For example, when 9-11 first responders had their health care coverage taken away from them, it was Jon Stewart's continued support of NYPD cops and firefighters and port authority workers who searched for survivors and helped to clean up ground zero. He was always on the side of oppressed minorities who lacked a a voice, even after he left the Daily Show. That may be his greatest legacy as the seventeen-year host of The Daily Show: helping the sick get the care they deserved. From now on, we'll remember the true greats of television hosting longevity: Regis Philbin, Johnny Carson, David Letterman. And now, yes, Jon Stewart. Happy trails, Jon. Jane Doh I've gotta say, he didn't EARN his retirement. Nor SHOULD he have retired at such a critical moment. Nor was it conscionable. Can you actually imagine Trump getting "elected" if Jon had stuck it out and took that utter moron to task? No offense, Jon, except for my burning resentment at the doom we're internationally and collectively and largely all unwillingly participating in now, of course. STILL love you, guy. And I mean that. HungLikeAHamster Stewart has more than EARNED his retirement and then some. Instead of being upset that Stewart wasn't around to "take Trump to task", get mad at all the cable news channels who would broadcast all of his campaign rallies *uninterrupted* giving him more supporters. Or the rest of the media who gave Trump $1 billion dollars of free advertisement by constantly talking about him.

Why on Earth would you think I'm OK with the rest of the media not doing THEIR job? Jon's one of the very few that did their jobs FOR them because they wouldn't. Jus' saying he picked a fuck of a time to go off and buy a farm and raise a few critters. Hardly an uncommon thought directed his way. He's spent hours and hours trying to address why he did this in dozens of post Daily Show interviews. I think he really just felt it was as improbable and ridiculous that Trump would actually get elected as that there media you blame did. Buying into this systemically broken mess in the first place guarantees you're gonna get what you deserve. And that's Trump, apparently. *I* don't deserve him. *You* do. Lol I haven't voted since 2000. When SCOTUS appointed the non elected president it was way past time to disabuse myself of the notion that my vote ever mattered or ever could. I've *never* been represented by government in my entire life. I've had government *forced* on me. Watch George Carlin on Why I Don't Vote. It's spot on. He doesn't offer a solution, he just points out the problem. Excuse me. *A* problem, as you seem to need that specified. In other words, George actually had more opinions than one. He was complex like that...

Billo Really? makes me physically ill if by chance I hear his voice. I have successfully avoided loudmouth Rush Limbaugh and others, thank the Lord. My 'Conservative' brother smokes weed, is ALWAYS pissed about entitlements - yet both my mister and myself went through University on Pell Grants, and I am on Medical now now (I am disabled.) I voted for a former SAG president turned republican, whose speach writer made him known world-wide as the great orator, Ronald Reagan, because he was Christian, and NOT a CFR member (history-making). Before Reagan's advisors made it acceptable, Christians, especially we brethren avoided the voting booth. We are told not to be of this world. I don't own a TV, nor do my kids. Am I a shithead too? Southern Democrats are Conservative. Are they shitheads too? Do some honest research before opening your mouth.

America picked a crappy democratic candidate. It was like it was "Hillary's Time" and the democratic party was like "fuck anyone else who even tries to challenge her". That was the problem. I'm not American, but if I was, I'd have no idea who to vote for as both candidates were shit in their own way. I think Trump got a lot of votes because he wasn't a politician and people were curious about that.... and Hillary was the exact opposite. She was the polished politician you KNOW wasn't who she acted or pretended to be, she sounded like a shill every time I heard her talk. She sounded like she memorized the sound bites perfectly.... and was a robot. On the other hand.... Trump sounded like a moron and had zero tact, however he was was who he was... and whether he does 'being President' well or not, or whether you like him and his ideas or not, he seems to be trying to get his promises done... even if he's playing a dirty game to do it. The GOP didn't reign him in during the primaries and allow the debates to be actual debates, where other candidates got to talk and counter-point in a professional manner. The GOP debates were a shit-show. The 2016 election was voting for the lesser of two evils. Just my opinion. America's voting system is shit. I don't get why the Electoral College still exists. I do get why it existed at one time, but it no longer serves a purpose. The only purpose it serves is to allow gerrymandering and politicians to strategically setup the electoral college to favour one party over another, in particular the party already in charge. Clearly that's what happened in the 2000 election and the 2016 election.

@@jaydencolour1072 I’m still pissed at Noah for making fun of Bernie, by using half of a clip to joke about him treating children like adults. Whoever wrote that piece had to have watched the whole clip, which told an entirely different story. It was at a crucial time. There was worse than a news ban on Bernie, Biden waltzed into the South and boldly lied to black people, after Bernie had already managed to get a series of healthcare clinics up and running for healthcare poor areas, the Democratic Party ganged up on him to blindside him. The entire establishment went after Bernie, the man who the people ran, and who millions outside the country were supporting. No one, aside from Seth Meyers supported him. Noah could have made a difference, could have made THE difference, but he used his influence pull that stunt on him. As it turned out, it was revealed half the country , primed by Fox News, is fascist. Donald Trump. You can’t get a more dumbed down country than the USA.

It is the only TV show that I wanted to watch every episode...and just about did. Once I could "TIVO" (later DVR) them, I didn't miss any. There is a whole in my brain where all of the POV's used to go. His "replacement" Trevor is enough to make you laugh, but not enough to make you think...

We need more people like this guy. He used the media to give us reliable intel instead of what we normally get. He's living the show with many accomplishments. The biggest accomplishment that anyone can have is legacy. And, for me, the biggest part of his legacy is the people that we can look up to for reliable information and a good laugh, even for people like me in the other side of the world. Btw, my favorite is Jon Oliver.

I loved Jon Stewart. He was the best. That being said, I was very unhappy with him leaving when he did. VERY UNHAPPY. During the Trump Presidential run and even more so, during Trump's Presidency, we needed Jon like never before. It was seriously bad timing that he left when he did. I'm not saying that Jon could of turned the tide of the 2016 Presidential election, but you never know. He is desperately needed now that's for sure. Trevor Noah is OK, I suppose and Colbert is doing what he can, and so is Stephen Meyers. But none of them could of done what Jon could of.

+Nick Taylor He'll need to wait awhile before the youth of today can get passionate enough to vote for him. I know he said he isn't interested in pursuing a political career, but minds can change. Besides, Guatemala just elected a TV comedian to be its president (despite zero political experience prior), so why not us?

I had no idea how much money Comedy Central coughed up for Jon. $55 milliion a year. He made the same as Jay Leno and David Letterman combined. I still go back and look at old Daily Show clips like it was still on the air.

I absolutely loved Jon Stewart and what he did for both the media and entertainment. But I was seriously pissed when he left. He left when we (Americans) needed him most, the 2016 election. Never before have we desperately needed someone to call out bullshit and try and keep things in perspective. Had he stayed, i can't say that he would changed the results of the Presidential election, but he very well might of. People listened to Jon. We believed him because he was genuine and frank. And you talk about missing the comedy (and terrifying) gold mine that is Trump. There have been so many times in the Trump Presidential era that I have thought "I wonder what Jon would of said about that?" and "Oh man, Jon Stewart would of had a hay day with that shit!!" Colbert has done an admirable job. Along with Seth Meyers, Jon Oliver, Trevor Noah and the more recent Jimmy Kimmel, they have done good jobs. Yet none of them could have been as effective as Jon Stewart would have been.

Well done, fantastic documentary. I am researching more about Jon because of Trevor Noah who we have followed to The Daily Show. As a Canadian, American political news never interested us BUT since the Baby45 became President it has certainly changed our interests. We LOVE Trevor and his team and have gone back to view all of his shows and lots of Jon's shows as well and his movie. Again well done. :o)

Good luck to my Brother from another mother Mr, Trevor Noah, as a fellow south african comic, improvisor and comedian Although I don't personally know him, if he was able to overcome the existing stand-ups in South Africa at the time he came up, there must be a superb mind there,which I hope takes us in new and familiar direction! +emailchb I agree. I love Last Week Tonight, but John Oliver would have been the natural successor to Jon Stewart. Too bad he was under contract to HBO when Stewart decided to retire.
