The Winterfell crypt statues tell Jon he doesn’t belong there, and the Starks erased all memory of the Night King who was a Stark. The Starks also blocked/erased the lowest part of the crypts, where is hidden their secret in which they are guarding (the place that doesn’t belong). Jon is heading that way in his dreams (where he belongs) but will only reach this area in his death, in which he will get what he needs before he is resurrected. He will be brought back to life with this secret and be complete to carry out his destiny.

Great work as always! Officially caught up on new content. Think the idea of the others seizing Jon’s body is definitely paralleled elsewhere. Just dug into Glendon ball in the mystery knight who seems to be a decent stand in for Jon. Seems like we see this with dany at the hotu to some extent too. Later at the fighting pit of mereen she even thinks about how the angry gods of this might seize and torture her if she were to die. Would love to see where else you think we might see echoes of jons fate?

I love reading that series after watching your vids because I'm noticing so many shared myths and symbols - please please please read it! If we do see Otherized Jon I assume we will not be experiencing it through Jon POV chapters - who do you think we will see his attack on Winterfell from?

listening to this i had thoughts about bran pushing jon's spirit out of ghost. like how he would come to know. 1) he leaves the cave and learns about it or sees it in the weirwood net or sth 2) (And the one i find more interesting) after jon's death, they chase ghost north of the wall. Bran warging summer finds ghost. but he can sense something is different about him so he tries to warg him and meets jon's spirit inside. bonus points for seeing a resurrected jon first. maybe he's more quiet or weird but he's doing things (we see him from other characters pov). and then you have the bran scene and you're like "omg if jon is in here, who or what is in jon's body". that'd be a brilliant moment of horror, especially for the readers who dont to all this analysing. it would be magnificent

I have been watching your videos for some time now. They are always so interesting and entertaining. I always wonder to myself, with regards to all of your symbolism theories, is George really packing in all of these hidden meanings behind every word he writes? It seems like it would be so much work, to put all of these references and hidden meanings into so much of his story. So many of your theories make sense, and George does take a good amount of time to write his novels... I just wish we could see what George would have to say on all of these theories.

Tad Williams is a top-notch world builder and he very often draws from ancient mythology to do so. Memory, Sorrow and Thorn should be first on your list, but Shadowmarch shouldn't be too far behind. Highly recommend his other, very underrated series. Also, The Last King of Osten Ard (sequel trilogy to MST) is pretty great so far.

To be empathetic towards Jon during his bratty moment of being announced a Steward: He didn't recognize the potential/honor. Before The Wall, SAM was treated with respect (before Dickon) like Rob. Meanwhile, at Winterfell, Jon was treated like Sam (after Dickon.) It took Samwell Tarly, first assumed heir of Horn Hill, to point out the POSITIVE intention of Commander Mormont's training/grooming of Jon BECAUSE Jon didn't recognize the signs of being an heir. He was belittled and treated coldly at Winterfell, unable to prove himself. While at The Wall, he was able to prove himself (experience of being raised in a Lord's House) on equal footing with the rest of the new arrivals and FINALLY felt worthy of a position SOMEWHERE near admiration.

Symbolism really is entrenched in dichotomies: sun and moon, fire and ice, east and west, good vs. evil, etc. I want to ask about the last dichotomy, good vs. evil, both in how you view the stories and what you think GRRM may be getting at. In this video, as well as the "Weir Walkers" video, I get a sense that you feel "The Others" are not necessarily evil, but the lesser evil, maybe, a creation of some other group/entity. Which reminds me of Geralt of Rivia, or fake Rhaegar, but we won't get into that. And then we have the countless examples of characters who address the "good vs. evil" dichotomy in man's nature as not being correct. It seems to me human nature is presented as more of a gray area and the dichotomy is broken by several characters. I especially enjoy Jon's inner monologue when faced with his love for Ygritte and the supposed evilness of the wildings. So we have our symbolic dichotomies that are everywhere, I mean you've made hours upon hours of amazing content for symbolism in ASOIAF, but we also have characters blurring the lines of the universal dichotomy of good vs. evil in man. With that being said, how can we try and compartmentalize the nature/motives of the Others, children, Greenmen, and other species? Are they similar to humans, in that their nature is also a gray area, blurred between the edges of good and evil? Or do you think, or I guess more importantly, do you think GRRM believes that the motives of the Others/Childrens/Greens will fall to either good or evil in the readers' eyes? Obviously, good or evil in the characters' eyes is a whole other issue, so I'm specifically asking about the readers.

I kinda liked the idea me and my brother with some friends talked about, which is that The Doom gave birth to the Red God 😎🤷‍♂️

The Mountain Men of Dunharrow failed to uphold their oath to Isildur, and were cursed until they fulfilled it, which they did by destroying the Corsairs at Pelargir (this is for the books, not the film). Perhaps the Starks failed in their oath? Perhaps, again with a LoTR reference, they failed to fully destroy the Others when they had the chance, like Isildur and the One Ring. Now, Jon Snow will call on them to help him fulfill their oath.
