I’ve always used the foot wedge rule, basically if you’re taking relief, you can use your foot wedge, and kick that sumbitch back in the rough.

You would be surprised how clean you can hit it off the path, if he clubbed down it it would have been a great shot. I know what you mean as a lot of people yell that to me (I am small time, not big crowds) and they have no clue what is going on.

Yeah! That's the issue, the rules can't be played realistically by the rest of us for that exact reason. This is nonsense, and I think he could have gotten a better result if he hadn't listened, going right was going to be better, especially since the second puddle was a new puddle. He could have potentially gotten the path relief on the right

These PGA guys are no doubt elite talents, but there are probably hundreds of guys not on tour who are just as skilled. What makes the tour guys truly special are moments like these. My goodness ...hitting a shot off a gravel path, under a branch with a sea of faces staring at you, any of which you could potentially kill with an errant shot - all that after a dizzying rules discussion and the clock already ticking away. Now that is pressure. Amazing.

Man this is getting ridiculous, all that rigmarole just to have him play the shot with his left foot still in the water!

I actually appreciate that this particular rules official understood the rules and took the time to explain and enforce the rules, and I like and respect J Spieth, but he often takes waaaaaaaay too long in these situations. . . . Then again, Patrick Reed would just look around to make sure no one was watching, then pick up his ball, dry it off, walk 133 feet left into the fairway, and quietly place it on a perfect spot, then move it around a little more, clean it again, push a tee into the ground, place the ball on the tee, pull out an 8-iron, and swing away.

Why didn’t he drop it on the other side of the small puddle so it would bounce backward?
