"We experience emptiness when the mind is free from grasping at appearances... we cut through the hallucination of perception when we stop grasping at whatever is arising...our perceptions are often the result of engrained mental habits, therefore, perception can be trained... mastery of one's perceptions comes through mindfulness ... training ourselves to see the unsatisfying, selfless nature of the process (contact-feeling-craving-grasping) and to see that what is unsatisfying & the cause for suffering cannot and will not lead to happiness, non-grasping leads to the end of suffering, liberation through non-grasping! There it is! It's so clear! Also beneficial is seeing how we adopt, embellish, and cling to our own story when "it's just a mind state!" The very edge of my practice is to strengthen renunciation, restraint of the sense doors, embracing silence, simplicity, and AN. ENVIRONMENT. OF. NO. ENTERTAINMENT. I've known this for a long time. "Oh, what's the harm in watching 5 hours of tv every night?" Can. I. do. it?! The 3rd Noble Truth is true! there can be cessation of suffering! If I had the opportunity to ask Joseph a question, I'd want to hear more (sorry for being greedy when already you've given us so much!) about how to master perceptions. I'm thinking understanding and becoming familiar with the 4 hallucinations of perception is a good place to start. I feel blessed, am boundlessly grateful, there is no greater gift than to hear the Dhamma!! "Thank you" doesn't even begin to describe it! Sadhu, sadhu, sadhu!! __/\__
