Joseph Goldstein talks about how wisdom arises from an understanding of the true nature of impermanence, and how experiencing the truth of change can be our doorway to freedom.
In this episode, Joseph explores:
The nature of impermanence and why going from an intellectual understanding of it to a direct experience of it can be our doorway to freedom
The different ways we can gain liberating insights into the truth of impermanence, including reflecting on death and relationships
How, when we begin to see the true nature of change, we start to cultivate Bodhicitta
The two levels of Bodhicitta - the relative level and the ultimate level - and how Bodhicitta manifests as responsive compassion
“So this is really important because in talking about the impermanent nature of all this and how ultimately unsatisfying it all is, the implication is not that we pull back from experience, as some people might assume. Rather, it’s learning to not hold on. That is the implication, and that is the doorway to freedom.” - Joseph Goldstein
This dharma talk from March 25, 2004, was originally published on Dharma Seed.

Very very funny the comment who wants to buy things he does not know what they are. This happened to me I saw long que then I stood in the row then I became aware what am I standing for to buy? So left the que and stood at the side to see what is sold? It was alcohol and I am not tasted alcohol all my life. This is the power of market economy and its psychology make us think we need tools for every thing. Like aplastic box to keep onion etc.

WOW!! this talk was so searing about FREEDOM! and Joseph lays it out so the path to freedom can be seen simply (but not necessarily easy to do) as the appreciation of impermanence. "We’re paying attention to what is around us all the time, the momentary changing nature, seeing it clearly, the mind lets go! In letting go of grasping, in letting go of clinging, we are actually watering the seed of bodhicitta in us: this aspiration to awaken for the benefit of all." I think I've listened to this talk at least 3 times! Amazing seeds humbly planted in this talk!! Bows to the ground expressing my gratitude!

It is interesting to watch the mind weave its picture show. I have experienced moments in meditation and with psychedelics where the mind settles down and a clarity emerges gradually. When "i" would notice the clarity it was only because my mind stirred up the silt that had settled and suddenly the clarity was disturbed. The picture show had begun. "i' could let it go...briefly, but eventually the tide of thought forms rise into "daily life" and the clarity is obscured once again. But "its already here" as Joseph said, to be rediscovered.

Recap is compassion and the truth every thing change and any thing could happen any time. Once teaching my son this and gave example scar could come in our lane in dual carriage way and before finishing my teaching areal car was driving in front of me. Facing my car. This is in Middle East where traffic is Ames’s.

In the Roman parties of the elite , the servant carry human skeleton around as a reminder of their condition. For me at 16 years old in Anatomy hall where dead bodies lying brown in colour from formaldehyde was a shocking painful experience at first but then lead death as my Refrence or bench mark for my acts. Never ever hurt anybody even bad when was with tremendous power but always did not believe in any thing is permanent. This lead to really good peaceful life although some thinks weakness..
