Joseph: Middle-Kingdom of Egypt (12th Dynasty)
This video covers the story and life of Joseph. Joseph was one of Jacob's 12 sons. His father loved him more than any of the others and gave him a colored cloak. His brothers were jealous of him and sold him into slavery. He was taken to Egypt and eventually became steward to Potiphar, one of Pharaoh's officials. Potiphar's wife tried unsuccessfully to seduce him and after false accusations were leveled at Joseph he was imprisoned. Due to his ability to interpret Pharaoh's dream he was made governor of Egypt. He wisely rationed the country's produce in preparation for a time of famine. During the famine Jacob's sons came to Egypt to plead with Joseph for supplies. They did not recognize him but after he was satisfied that they were reformed he identified himself with great joy. Joseph invited his father and brothers to come and settle in Egypt. The story is recounted in the Old Testament (Genesis 37, 39-45).
In this video well cover Joseph's Egyptian name Zaphenath-paneah which occurs onlv once in the Bible. It's the name Pharaoh gave to Joseph when he promoted him to second in command after he was able to explain Pharaoh's dream (Genesis 41:45). This promotion enabled Joseph to reunite with his family, and to save them from starvation.
The main goal of the video is to explore:
1. What Kingdom of Egypt did Joseph and his family live in?
2. What Egyptian Dynasty was Joseph and his family apart of?
3. What Pharaoh did Joseph serve under?
We will uses the four fields of anthropology to answer these questions. The four major fields of anthropology: biological anthropology, cultural anthropology, linguistic anthropology, and archaeology.
Understanding the Kingdom and Dynasty that Joseph and his family is important because it could give us insight into the biological make-up of the Egyptian and Hebrew population.

They where no Hebrews in Ancient Egypt, Only the Hyksos, who enslaved the Egyptians for 200 years until the Egyptians fought for their freedom and expelled the Hyksos from Egypt into the Lavant , the Hyksos then founded Jerusalem this is where you get you Exodus story from

"The earliest inscription mentioning a chariot, written on the so-called second Kamose Stela (1554-1550 BCE), dates to Dynasty 17 and refers to a chariot used by the Hyksos. The biography of Ahmose, son of Abana, of a slightly later date, reports on an Egyptian chariot." ~December 2020 Vol. VIII, No. 12 Nefertiti on Her Chariot - The Female Use of Chariots in Ancient Egypt By Heidi Köpp-Junk What about when Joseph rode the chariot when do you think that the Chariot was introduced my brother Genesis 41:42 And Pharaoh took off his ring from his hand, and put it on Joseph's hand, and arrayed him in clothing of fine linen, and put a gold chain about his neck; Genesis 41:43 And he made him to ride in the second chariot which he had; and they cried before him, Bow the knee: and he made him ruler over all the land of Egypt. As we know The Semitic Hyksos who briefly ruled Egypt introduced the horse and chariot around 1700 B.C. Can we push it to 1800bc?
@thehebrewofisrael
@thehebrewofisrael Жыл бұрын
An argument that has been used to date Joseph to the Hyksos period is the mention of chariots in the account of Joseph's promotion and rewarding by Pharaoh. It is often pointed out that since the war chariot was probably introduced into Egypt by the Hyksos, Pharaoh's gift to Joseph would best fit in the Second Intermediate Period and not in the earlier Middle Kingdom.[8] But need we connect this vehicle used for transportation by a high official of government with war chariots? Nothing is said in the Joseph Story about chariots being used in battle, and in fact the chariot given to Joseph is called the second chariot of Pharaoh, thus leaving the impression that there were not many of them. When a horse was found by the excavators of the fortress of Buhen, from a period well before the Egyptians began to use chariots for war, the conclusion of the archeologists was that “It is likely that, at least in the early periods, horses were owned by the most top-ranking members of society and that they were only used for drawing chariots on state occasions” (Emery, Smith and Millard 1979: 194; cf. B. Wood 1993).

@@thehebrewofisrael That would only work if they stayed in Egypt and didn't uses the war vehicle description as we got an example of The war Chariots leaving Egypt Genesis 50:8 And all the house of Joseph, and his brothers, and his father's house: only their little ones, and their flocks, and their herds, they left in the land of Goshen. Genesis 50:9 And there went up with him BOTH CHARIOTS AND HORSEMEN: and it was a very great company. Genesis 50:10 And they came to the threshing floor of Atad, which is beyond Jordan, and there they mourned with a great and very sore lamentation: and he made a mourning for his father seven days. Genesis 50:11 And when the inhabitants of the land, the Canaanites, saw the mourning in the floor of Atad, they said, This is a grievous mourning to the Egyptians: why the name of it was called Abelmizraim, which is beyond Jordan. Even Genesis 41:43 And he made him to ride in the second CHARIOT which he had; and they cried before him, Bow the knee: and he made him ruler over all the land of Egypt. Vs Genesis 46:5 And Jacob rose up from Beersheba: and the sons of Israel carried Jacob their father, and their little ones, and their wives, in THE WAGONS which Pharaoh had sent to carry him. Genesis 45:20 Also regard not your stuff; for the good of all the land of Egypt is your's.
