From what I've gleamed from listening to him throughout the years, at the surface he may seem brash but in truth he is quite the deep thinker. @@Empyronaut He isn't a free speech absolutist, but neither are most reasonable people, because most people understand a line must be drawn somewhere. "Absolute" free speech with no exception inevitably covers CSAM material (including drawn/AI generated images), revenge p*rn, etc. Reasonable people agree that those things shouldn't be disseminated. Everyone I've met who claims themselves to be a free speech "absolutist" (and isn't an insane person) tends to agree that those things shouldn't be covered under free speech. KF also doesn't allow posting p*rn in general unless it's relevant to a discussion. There's no gooning thread or subforum on KF. Even the thread dedicated to discussing lolcows and happenings in the adult industry contains very little actual p*rn, because Josh just doesn't like it (correctly, that shits evil anyway) and he has said that the Internet is absolutely loaded with p*rn so gooners aren't in danger of running out of places to goon. There are rules on the site and they're not all just about staying legal, some of it comes from a compromise between Josh's values and the farms' culture. It's true Josh also deletes things on rare occasions that shit up the site, but he tends to leave a note for the user as to why he deleted it, giving them a chance to repost in a manner that abides by the format of the site. He is running a web 1.0 lolcow discussion forum, not a graffiti wall. He's never claimed to be a free speech absolutist. What matters is he has principles and believes that a website that breaks no laws should not be denied the right to exist just because a few people don't like it. He is an advocate for a free and open Internet, and opposes the idea that the Internet should be a place where like 5 giant tech companies own like 5 social media sites and that's the extent of the web. it should remain a technology that anyone can use, and anyone should be able to host their own website so long as it is lawful.

Yes this whole story is wild af. And because of her involvement in this BDSM fetish world of hollywood I'm very sceptical of Buck. I think she's severely traumatized and has seen some f'd up sh*t, that's probably why she can't let go of the trans stuff. Josh is a at the forefront of speech issues online in the modern era, and yet he rarely gets any acknowledgment from anything approaching the mainstream probably because of the somewhat crude nature of his site. This all comes down to Josh and his followers / subs / friends deemed as "wrong-thinkers". I don't always 100% agree with him, but I tend to more often than not and I don't think anyone who spends five minutea actually researching the claims and looking at the site can deny he's been unfairly labeled and maligned for things he's never done or advocated. Josh is not a pedophile, the site has never been directly reaponsible for a suicide, the site has always had a policy of observation and non-interference, and they've never specifically targeted trans people, they discuss unusual people, the overlap is largely beyond their control. To put another way, I'd argue by a wide margin most of those the site documents are white and male, but no one would ever assert the site was targeting white males.

I remember a thread,accusing Josh of being "against the white man", because out of roughly a dozen cows in KF's history, who were popular enough that Josh gave the cow a dedicated sub-forum, they were ALL white, and I'm pretty sure they've all been males (but I'm not 100% on that- There MAY have been a time, when Amberlyn Reid had a subforum, for a minute)

Reading through the comments, it's clear why websites like Josh's are so important. The hate for something that's easy to avoid if it's not your cup of tea is telling. I know a lot of creators don't like KF because it is a lot of just gossip, but gossip isn't illegal. I've seen quotes from overturned rulings, justification that was used for blasphemy laws, and everything else in an attempt to make people want to remove it. It's sad that the very idea of protecting speech you disagree with is seen as wrong and is a frightening prospect for our future. That instead of fighting for more freedom, people are fighting for more oppression while somehow believing it creates more freedom. Perhaps this was the road we stepped on when we introduced the idea of protected groups or it's just the natural progression of freedom. Either way, it's not a fight I've ever shied away from and I don't intend to start to now.
