Still totally satisfied with Brian Kelly as our coach. No, not perfect, but he's very smart, always striving to improve, and very in tune with what's going on around him. I'm glad he stuck by his principles. He also hired the best D line coach in America, so let's let him do his thing and see what happens 🤷

U don’t understand his message and it shows it’s one thing being a coach and going to a program that’s better than the one u currently at then being a head coach and buying a player for more than anybody in the locker room is making it destroys the culture in the locker room and makes them think they aren’t as good as they really are and makes them want to transfer and look for money ur looking at it as Brian Kelly saying it and not as a head coach of a football team saying it

Brian Kelly is suggesting to his fanbase that his recruiting failure is because Oklahoma "bought" Damonic Williams. It's an excuse that deflects blame. It's also insulting to DW and OU's staff. I think Kelly is full of BS. If DW's plan was to sell himself to the highest bidder, would he have really canceled his visit to Oregon?

Spot on. You can’t overpay out of desperation. The best 2 DTs in spring portal wouldn’t have gotten such attention in Dec. LSU fans have been the worst over this. LSU has 8 interior DL. They need to step up and LSU hired a staff to make that happen. Bo knows DL. Half of those guys were highly rated recruits and have never really gotten good coaching. Remember, LSU didn’t have a full time DL coach last year due to medical reasons.

That's QB and top 2 WRs going in the 1st round... But ya also had the RB CEH go #32 in the 1st round as well. LSU set the record with 14 drafted in one class that year (15 if ya count Chase, I do).

You act like LSU is a second class program compared to UGA. The last three years is all that matters you? You look at players in the NFL, SEC Championships, title game appearances and national championships the past 20 or so years. They don’t beat LSU in any of those categories. There is no place that develops players better than LSU. Look at NFL rosters and look and recruiting rankings no school gives you a better shot at making the league. Whether you want to admit it or not no school besides Bama has been more successful than LSU since 2000. We did it with four different coaches. On the field results and NFL talent. Nobody besides bama has as national championships or played in more title games. Maybe OSU and Bama can claim the same about of NFL success but they finish top 3 every year in recruiting.

Being full of it and paying a a random starter more than everyone else on the team when the need warrants it but the players merit and talent don’t warrant it is disrespectful to yourself and your program and it set a precedence for how you will behave in the future when a player asks for more than they talent is worth. He could not just own the fact he and his coaching staff were unable to obtain some help at a needed position, so he imbedded an excuse that he can fall back on if things do not play out as expected. Saban and Smart do not get grief for making similar comments because they do not bring it up in a context that makes it look like they are making excuses for their own failures.

I think this is more complicated than most think. Kelly didn't do a good job of explaining it. Yes, all of the great coaches sell their program. Great coaches don't start with "how much can we/will we pay you". For great teams, NIL closes the deal, it doesn't open the deal. With his explanation, Kelly is correct in selling the program. His attacking the NIL is either sour grapes, misspeaking or wrong.

It's just sour grapes for him to say it's the players fault he couldn't sell his program and culture. All teams are doing this. Tennessee Georgia Alabama are doing this. Compare his take vs heuple when asked the same. Question.

Bryce Underwood the # 1 PLAYER and QB ? Great decision... the winning programs are doing the same thing. We just had 3 guys in the 1st round a DT who didn't hit his stride until the last 4 games and went 2nd round. That little short term money when we just had 4 guys combine foe almost 100 million. It sets a terrible precedent and Oklahoma not gonna win shit and dude will probably be a 2nd round pick AT BEST probably lower and when that projection comes he will hit the portal again looking for another sucker

We have two projected first rounders on the OL. We have a protected first rounder at LB. Why have none of them left? Why have we not even heard any thoughts of them leaving? I wonder how long the lower bids last though. If collectives are able to help invest in facilities and staff to catch up to these teams (and I'm really only speaking to other B1G and SEC schools as there are probably only 5-6 teams outside those conferences who have the means to compete with them in terms of pure cash). There's a reason Saban left, there's a reason Kelly is whinging, and there's going to be reasons all the rich old white guard who are making $10+ million a year will be outspoken about the way other teams are building their rosters. If FSU makes another run with DJ and other "bought" players, if Miami figures out how to win with talent on their roster, if UCF makes a run at the Big 12, or Ole Miss plays themselves into an SEC title game over Alabama (even if they lose to Georgia)...those players will see they can make more money and be on winning teams. Also in terms of development, we're seeing players go to these camps paying trainers in the offseason big bucks (that they're making from NIL deals) to prep for the NFL. QBs used to always do these camps, but there are much smaller more personal training sessions, and its for players in all positions as they get NIL money to help them pay for things like development. I get what Kelly is saying here, and I don't disagree with him, I don't even think he's lying. Just for me, coming from the mouth of someone making just under $10 million a year to coach, it feels just crappy that they are low balling these players....and that he's disappointed they would rather make money than play for him the "right" way.

It is just really upsetting because on one side of the ball I am confident that Kelly is a top 5 Coach. He constantly builds and develops a good O-Line. He is constantly churning TE's. He is recruiting AMAZING at QB and WR level. But this is a two sided sport. I feel like this will come back to bite him in the ass in 2-3 years. This is all about perspective for an EXTREME fan base, me included. He decided NOT to spend money on addressing this issue. That is fine, cool. But let our defense be below average in conference for the 3rd year in a row, and he starts to develop the appearance of not knowing what he is doing on the defensive side, and NOT EVEN TRYING to fix it. Let him blow money in NIL on some defense palyers, if they don't pan out and we are still below SEC average, he at least tried and those players stink/staff did not develop them. But I would rather a staff fail at developing vs a staff not even try to get them in, in the first place. LSU has money. It is THE univeristy of Louisiana. Donors, sponsors, we produce chemical and oil money. LSU has money. Not using it in my opinion shows he is not taking it seriously on the defensive side of the ball. LSU easily wins 10 games last year if we had a top 50 defense, maybe 11 if we split Florida St and Bama.

The fallacy here is that Kelly’s speech implies the other contenders for these ARE “paying” for players, when I can tell you, as an OU fan, that our NIL is no better than the average SEC team at the moment. I can’t speak to the other talent, but unless it’s Texas or Ole Miss or OSU or a few others, the vast majority of teams cannot afford to just “pay” for players, and are trying to sell players on the same stuff Brian is trying to sell them on.

Could be sour grapes, could be legit, could be both... but if you have the cash, and you don't spend it to make your team better, then it's a wasted resource. Now, maybe he's choosing to spend it on the guys he's got instead, and I think that's fair. I also think some of these guys asking for a ton of money could create culture problems. But, if you have a weakness in your team and you don't address it, you're not winning in the SEC. For some teams that have lower expectation for the year, that's fine. I don't think the people in Baton Rouge have low expectations, nor do I think they should.
