the USC case was always a bizarre outlier even for the NCAA and because of it, it was the beginning of the end for the NCAA’s credibility. Helped along by their own enthusiasm for shooting themselves in the foot with even worst bunglings like Miami and Baylor.

He had a legendary run during his time at USC and was partly responsible for reestablishing the Trojans as a national title contender during the Pete Carroll era. Glad to see him regain what he earned.

I hate the NIL and the transfer portal. But under these new rules, the NCAA needs to give Miami and SMU their reparations back. Reggie Bush does not deserve to get the Heisman back and never should have won it to begin with. He was granted the award on an uneven playing field where he was given advantages over other players who followed the rules. Reggie Bush played with the mental clarity that comes with economic security of cash and free rent for his family. He never had to worry about them being taken care of. Vince Young followed the rules. He didn't take cash nor did his family have free rent. I can't speak to the Young family's economic situation at the time, but Vince did go to Madison High School, which serves an economically disadvantaged portion of Houston and where 92% of students receive free and reduced lunch. Maybe VY would have performed better if he wasn't worrying about his family's financial security - an against-the-rules luxury Reggie was handed. Maybe not. None of us know, but it does suggest that this issue is more nuanced that you want to give it credit for. Competitions don't exist in a vacuum.
