Girl, why do people have to list the stories in order in the comments... I spend a long time putting these videos together only for someone to ruin it 🙄

After almost every story, I was questioning about why it's so low. There are so many great stoies in Troughton's era.

Ok, Enemy of the World should be AT LEAST Top 5

I’m not surprised that the last story of the Troughton era and the end of the Dr Who B&W era would be at #1.

Plot Twist: The Daleks’ Master Plan is #1 on this list too.

The Tom Baker list will create the biggest argument ever, no question.

The Invasion is my favourite classic who story. Troughton is my second favourite classic doctor and my third favourite doctor over all. So many classic, wonderful episodes on this list.

Krotons coming in at #18 just goes to show the overall quality of the Troughton era.

As more of these videos are made, the more Doctor Who fans bicker about why that one episode was higher than that episode. I can't wait for the Pertwee video!

Tomb of the Cybermen at 2? Damn we were so close at agreeing! Also surprised The Ice Warriors came as low as it did I personally really enjoy it, discussing how computers are taking over our own choices plus you have Peter Sallis in it, a lot to love!

Yay my favourite Doctor

I like The Underwater Menace a lot. It's got fish people going on strike and an insanely camp villain, I find that delightful.

Your delivery of the line "but this time, on the moon" is just my favourite thing, if you tacked it on to the end of the description for anything it would make itnstantly better. I'm not sure how Fury from the Deep ended up scoring so poorly, I guess since it's missing and there's no animation, fewer people really know it.

Glad my favorite story, The Moonbase, got into the top 10!

The Seeds of Death lower than the Macra Terror?!!! There’s so many classics in the Troughton era its difficult to decide. Also great video

Love the Troughton era; although I'm even more drawn to any story with Wendy Padbury in it.... And seeing her and Pat in so many stills in this video is a real treat

My personal favourite Troughton story is The Mind Robber. I love the surrealism, the atmosphere and its pacing. I love other Troughton stories like Tomb of the Cybermen and The Invasion almost as much but for me Mind Robber takes the cake. Troughton is just one of my favourite Doctors in general, like Top 5 easily.

Surprised evil of the daleks wasn't higher so much better than power in my opinion hopefully it's the story that's getting announced to be animated next weekend

when this video popped up i thought "betcha the bottom will be "The Underwater Menace", "The Dominators", "the Krotons" and "Space Pirates" dead last. Yup - nailed it! However, why "Fury From the Deep" isn't in the top 3 is beyond me.

It’s extremely tough to review stories with missing bits. Enemy of the world is an amazing story so underrated before it was found. Kinda think Space Pirates would surely be higher than The Krotons?

True fact - a family moved to our town in the early 70's and the sons became pupils at my school. Their surname was Kroton. I imagine they had hell / a lot of fights/ both

Interesting that in a time when fans are regularly saying that six part stories are too long and drag in the middle (an opinion I don't persnally share) each era's poll so far has been won by stories of twelve and ten episodes.

I think this is the first time since the 2013 recovery that I've seen Web above Enemy. For a few years, it was really dominating the other way around. You can also see the power of animation and how it adds to a story's popularity.

When I bought Moon Base on DVD I had never seen it before, being more interested in Hartnell and Pertwee. However, it has become my all time favourite Doctor Who story, I love the animation, cannot wait to see this upscaled to blu-ray hopefully in the near future.

I let out a very audible "No!" when I realised War Games was number one. I mean, it's a great story and all, but c'mon lads. If the Doctor and co got held captive and imprisoned by random factions any more times, you'd be able to make a whole season based off it.

I remember watching every episode of The Abominable Snowmen in 1969. Tragic that this story is still mostly missing!

- Troughton Years (1966-1969) Ranked - - 1 - The War Games (Story No. 50) Difference: (=) Does this need explaining? The best story is Doctor Who's entire history. Yep I said it. This story is so epic, and carries so much weight. It's the end to an entire era of the show, it's the magnum opus of Troughtons era and showcases some of the best acting seen on the show. The villains are great and despite it's enormous ten part runtime, still keeps me on my toes. - 2 - The Power of the Daleks (Story No. 30) Difference: (+2) In my opinion, the best Dalek story ever. This story makes the Daleks more threatening and evil than they had ever been before. Troughton does an impeccable job of picking up the role of the Doctor. If it weren't for him, the show never would have lasted as long as it has. The story is tense and features great acting and has cool sets. - 3 - The Evil of the Daleks (Story No. 36) Difference: (+3) One of the best Dalek stories ever. Kind of disappointing that this one didn't at least crack the top five. This story introduces Victoria, a great future companion, this story also happens to be the "last Dalek story". It does do well that I could be happy to never see the Daleks again after this one. - 4 - Fury from the Deep (Story No. 42) Difference: (+5) This story is great! Perhaps not enough people have seen this story to warrant it being in the top five like I have it. Another base-under-seige story that has brilliant acting, and solid villains. This story also introduces the sonic screwdriver and has one of the saddest companion departures of the 60s era. - 5 - The Invasion (Story No. 46) Difference: (=) One of the best Cybermen stories of all time. The eight part epic does an astounding job of making the villains true threats. UNIT plays a big role in this one like they did in 'Web', but introduces more long time players to the series. Great acting and action, and despite it's long runtime, NEVER drags it's feet. - 6 - The Enemy of the World (Story No. 40) Difference: (+1) This story is awesome, it illustrates the incredible acting by Troughton, and has a non-alien threat, cool sets and designs and great supporting cast. This story is still underrated, and in my opinion much better than the heavily anticipated 'Web of Fear'. - 7 - The Moonbase (Story No. 33) Difference: (+3) I clearly like this story better than 'Tomb'. This story just has so much to offer, the cybermen return in a look that looks great! The atmosphere is so tense in this one, and has an all-time great scene in the second part's cliffhanger. Although not entirely scientifically accurate, it's decent enough in it's plot and never feels boring. - 8 - The Web of Fear (Story No. 41) Difference: (-3) This story is so tense and has brilliant acting and amazing sets. The Yeti are so ominous and creepy in this one and the main cast are great. Not many gripes with this story at all. Also has the introduction to one of Doctor Who's best characters, the Brigadier. - 9 - The Faceless Ones (Story No. 35) Difference: (+5) This one is way lower than I thought it would be, maybe because it's mostly missing? The villains in this one are great, the atmosphere is brilliant and the casting is done so well aswell. My only problem with this story is the departure on Ben and Polly, I wish they had more to do in their final adventure with the Doctor. - 10 - The Tomb of the Cybermen (Story No. 37) Difference: (-8) This story is overrated. Yes, it has great acting and the cybermen are very creepy and ominous. But even for a four parter I found it a little bit boring. The Doctor's monologue is great, but I could barely understand what the Cybermen where saying half the time. - 11 - The Macra Terror (Story No. 34) Difference: (=) This story is such a good one. It has a solid plot and a great ensemble of supporting characters. The Macra also are great in all their crabby glory! My only gripe is the horrific soundtrack. - 12 - The Ice Warriors (Story No. 39) Difference: (+3) I think despite this story's obvious crap science, it's a good story that introduces awesome old school villains, and sets up a nice tense atmosphere and cool action-packed plot. The costumes don't look horrible, and main cast gel well in this one. - 13 - The Krotons (Story No. 47) Difference: (+5) I'm very surprised to see this one so low on the list. I actually quite enjoy this story, and think it is very underrated. It's decent enough in execution, a short but sweet story that doesn't rely to heavily on special effects, the main cast isn't too bad either. - 14 - The Seeds of Death (Story No. 48) Difference: (-1) Nice story with a nice plot, and cool return of the Ice Warriors! They are much better in this story than their first, but utimately this story starts to drag it's feet a bit towards the end. The main cast are good in this one, and the sets are decent too. - 15 - The Wheel in Space (Story No. 43) Difference: (+1) Definitely not surprised to see this one low on the totem pole. I think it's actually quite a good story with interesting plot, and a stellar introduction to one of my favorite companions. But I can see where some problems come in, the cybermen feel a bit tacky in this one, and the pacing is quite slow. - 16 - The Mind Robber (Story No. 45) Difference: (-8) Hugely unpopular opinion on this one! I think the first part of this story is great, but the remaining four parts are just boring. The villain is stupid and the decisions of the characters make little to no sense. I understand this story is more fantasy than scifi, but it's still pretty crap nonetheless. - 17 - The Abominable Snowmen (Story No. 38) Difference: (-5) I think this is an unpopular opinion. Maybe I'd like it more if it existed fully. This story is decent, the Yeti are cool, but it's just too boring for me to try and rewatch in the future. - 18 - The Underwater Menace (Story No. 32) Difference: (-1) Not entirely surprised to see this one land in the bottom five, very cheap looking even for 60s television. However, it's entertaining enough that it at least keeps my mind occupied while watching. The BBC recon sucks. - 19 - The Highlanders (Story No. 31) Difference: (-2) Honestly, the only reason to watch this story is to see Jamie join the TARDIS fold. Surprisingly Jamie wasn't even one of the main cast in this story, but it's a good if not boring episode, and the last pure-historical for a long time. - 20 - The Space Pirates (Story No. 49) Difference: (+1) Yeah, not surprised to see that the majority of voters would put this story at the bottom of the list. It certainly doesn't help that this story is mostly missing, but even if it were still in the archives, I don't think I would redeem the quality of this story. I put it above 'The Dominators', only because I dislike that story so much. - 21 - The Dominators (Story No. 44) Difference: (-1) God this story sucks, crappy acting, the Quarks are kind of cute, but the story has absolutely no redeeming qualites, and is basically garbage. Not only the worst of the Troughton era, but arguably one of the worst Classic Who episodes of all time.

Faceless Ones, Fury, and Enemy were too low. Macra, Tomb, and Seeds of Death were too high. In my opinion. Also, the Underwater Menace is so much worse than the Dominators.

Other commenters have said this, but I'm also surprised that certain stories are so low despite the Troughton era having so many amazing stories (case in point Fury from the Deep). In fact, Troughton's Doctor is my all-time favorite! I agree with the #1 story for this era because of the direction, the incidental music, and the introduction of the Time Lords. I can't wait to see the consensus on the Third Doctor's era! I'm loving this series!

Never knew the Padmasambhava fact, imagine if that was located like the alternate footage of Fury from the Deep. I feel like it would've looked awesome, maybe even better than the similar scene in Dragonfire.

The one big disagreement I have is The Highlanders, for me it's so important as Jamie's first story, and I can only assume the biggest reason for it's low ranking is the fact that it's practically completely missing. It's the story I want to be found most of all along with Tenth Planet 4 and Power of The Daleks 1. EDIT: Two also canonically cross dresses, this is an iconic moment in itself.

Interesting list...being that doctor #2 is my favorite...I love most of the stories...I personally would have put Tomb of the Cybermen as #1.

To be honest, I think 'Tomb of the Cybermen' is pretty high on this list (I'd still put in the top 10) and overshadows 'The Invasion' as well as 'The Moonbase'.

Never rated war games. As a 10 parter, I personally found it to be slow, whereas a 12 parter like masterplan flew by. 🤷‍♂️

Until The Space Pirates is recovered, I’ll only acknowledge one Troughton stinker (hello Dominators!). The standard of this era is amazing... as Enemy of the World emphasised.

I couldn't make a full list but my top five would be (in no particular order) The Power of the Daleks Fury from the Deep The War Games The Invasion The Macra Terror Evil is honestly a complete mess and I'm not sure why it's popular. Until you get to Skaro it draaags and is very repetitive And then there's stuff like The Space Pirates or The Underwater Menace which are no classics but people love to hate them just because that's the popular thing to do. UWM is actually quite fun

As a Second Doctor fan, I would say that 21-18 are the only average/below average stories in Troughton's run. Also, I was hoping 'Fury from the Deep' would be in the top 5, but (as I said) there are too many good ones to choose from.

And just why is Fury from the Deep so low??!! I feel it deserves to be at least Top 5. I enjoyed it more than Enemy of the World (which was still really good). I'm a bit surprised that War Games is #1. It is a brilliant story but I enjoyed Tomb of the Cybermen more.

Clicked on link fully expecting to hear... "The Space Pirates..." Not surprised or disappointed as it is an absolute dud. The top ten are such a hard call to make as I love the Troughton era. I might bump the Abominable Snowmen up a few notches though I agree that the Seeds of Death is a better serial than the Ice Warriors. Invasion? Evil of the Daleks? Tomb of the Cybermen? It's an incredibly difficult decision. The War Games is an epic but (no surprises if you've read my comments on previous videos) I still have to put Fury from the Deep at the top of my list. My actual memories of watching the serial are admittedly hazy but the surviving soundtrack is still incredibly compelling. I would love to see it again... Another great video Josh.
