Would be funny if they make effect monsters for this archetype with effect that says "this card is treated as a normal monster while in the deck or in the graveyard." That could be a call back to the Hieratic archetype since that's an old dragon archetype that also has effects related to normal monsters.

I feel like theyre going to do something weird with naming, since the cards awkwardly avoid saying "special summon a guy" and instead say "name a guy, and then special summon it", or instead of "special summon a monster, that monster is (effect)" they say "monsters with the declared name (effect)".

In the OCG there has already been mass sellouts and price hikes for the normal monster 'Dokuroyaiba', due to its status as the only FIRE Fiend Normal Monster and thus can be used alongside Imperial Dragon to counter and negate the best decks in the meta which are either FIRE (Snake-Eye, Tenpai, Fire-King) or Fiend (Fiendsmith, Yubel). People are already finding semi-generic uses for this new Normal Monster support, and that's before we get into decks that have in archetype Normal's it can use or whose theme revolves around a Normal (Sunavalon)/Non-Effect Monster(Tenyi).

Nice comment, but normal and non effects are not the same. Square and rectangles. All normals are non-effects, not all non-effects are normals, and these Primordials require normals specifically. SO no Monk of the Tenyi or Ready fusion here. By the way I'm sure i have a Dokuroyaiba laying around here somewhere...

You can hit a lot of decks by running the fiendsmith engine it uses a light fiend normal monster so you hit alot of decks and can get your negates online going first.

@@DisappearBlade I think what he meant is that tenyi get extra effects from controlling non-effect monsters, which these cards let you access in the form of normal monsters. Not that these new cards work with any non-effect.

I really don't get why Josh looks down on the Dragon so much. Yes, the negation is wonky when activated in a chain, but like in that Snake Eyes example he mentioned, let them have the Ash search, who cares? You are just going to banish their entire frontrow. Only downside I agree with is that it's a very "going first" card.

When there is an archetype that can summon a normal the first turn of the duel regardless of whose turn it is that isn't very specifically psy-Frame AND works seamlessly with the dragon then we can talk. I see Josh's point. However, counter point there should have already been a card to summon a normal monster from deck AND add a normal monster support card to hand a long time ago. Konami really needs to beef up support centered on non-token normal monsters to give them some reason to be used. Cards that gain effects because of normals being summoned that turn, or being one field or in gy. Plenty of cards are already used exclusively for stats. Why not make that the purview of normal mons. Ignore that Red-Eyes poster on the wall. I am a totally objective commenter.

There is a Quick effect tribute a monster and send your opponent monster to grave and summon a normal monster from deck. It's called Successor Soul I used to run it in my layer of darkness deck

@@DisappearBlade That's why I said though, the problem is that it's not good going second. If you go first, the deck already gives you 3 cards that can summon a vanilla from the Deck, and you already have Unexpected Dai and possibly Fusion Deployment if you need more vanilla access.

@@Wyrser I'm not disagreeing with you. I was riffing off what you said. We both agree Josh has a point. I just said we need some support cards far better than what we currently have. Normals as a concept need to be valuable additions, not have decks depend on them as a crutch like all these field spell centric decks. Spells stronger than Runik. Traps stronger than Labyrnth. We need cards like that for normals to be used as more than brinks or garnets.

The issue is the deck has to pass on a normal monster and like set 4 since you can't DO anything else due to the continuous spell locking you. That's so ass. I play literally any card that removes the vanilla you lose the game on the spot since you can't get out the big guy. SS sucks ass in modern yu-gi-oh and can do 10x more things going first while also being primarily a going second deck. Compare Blazing Inpachi set 4 to Shizuku set 4 and it isn't even close man.

The continuous spell into the quick play is 2 material (one at the end of your combo since the contplay summon locks you from monster effects on field) and a disruption, so that’s kinda neat atleast

You do not have to play a solely vanila monsters.. you can just have a tool box of 2 or 3 ones with good attributea and states the minimum as possible that can cover lots of ground... (Fire/Dark/Light/Earth/Fiend one of each) and setting the quickplay and traps going first... then once your opponent summon a monster (example: samsara D.Lotus) you chain the quiclplay spell or the trap to summon the corresponding vanilla for this matchup (Fiend) from deck and being ready for a negate and a board wipe (banish) in the next chain or at any time. I understand the timing is a bit wierd but it guarantee you a Dark Ruler no more and a board wipe at somepoint in your opponent's turn... the only problem i see is how you consistenly get the main monster to hand? Till now there is only 6 copies of it (the monster and the continuouse spell)

Honestly it's pretty obvious that theres going to be additional monsters, likely a monster that will assist in putting a vanilla on board turn 1. That's why the monster mentions to Normal Summon a Primoredial monster rather than itself. I'd be surprised if there wasn't also a field spell. The turn 2 play of Tribute Summoning itself is also good because either it's searched out already by the Cont Spell, or the Quick play can be searched to negate interruption from the board. That Quick-Play negation doesnt banish itself after Setting itself from the GY either. Don't think it's enough vs current competitive decks, but someone's bound to splash it something to make the game more annoying, like Psy-frame

Stun 5 baby though there’s a lot you could potentially end on with engine instead of hope your opener stops your opponent from playing the game. Trap monsters seals pass kragen. Potentially any synchro and xyz monster imaginable. Tenyi counter trap.

This has potential for some archetypes that revolve around normal monsters, but arent normal monsters only. Some that I can think of immediately are: Blue eyes Red eyes Dark magician Phantasm Spiral Gem-knights Suship Skull servants Theres probably more, but those are what I can think of right now.

During your opponents turn, you could activate Gamma to negate a effect and special summon Driver and you could tribute Driver for the Primordial Dragon. It's a bit of a scretch but it's not the worst combo. What would make this new archetype better would be cards that allows you to special summon normal monsters during your opponents turn.

S chat was pointing out this goes pretty hard in magikey. you can do your whole combo and then just activate the search spell and get a primodial, then use the otehr effect to sumon another normal from deck. and on the opponants turn you use the magikey counter trap which negates spell/traps and declare a type you have in the GY. for the rest of the turn all monsters they summon will be that attribute. so the primordial dragon will negate and banish all their monsters

There's a vanilla FIRE Fiend from PHSV, you can use it to cover both Snake-Eye and Yubel/Unchained/Fiendsmith. The dragon is much better than Josh realizes. It can also be used as an independent engine. At the end of your combo, use continuous to search for the dragon, summon that vanilla mentioned above from deck, and you have a DRNM + IDP on demand. You could also combine it with Adventurer just for the DRNM effect once you've used the Gryphon negate.

in the OCG, you can play Primoredial Tremors and Unexpected Dai to summon Pity (the level 4 normal monster light fiend) in fiendsmith deck.

In the Poplar scenario this card may not be worse than effect veiler. On resolution it not only negates Poplar but also Ash, so they can't use the effect to summon from deck anymore

If you veilered Ash, they have only 1 monster. If you set up the dragon and used it, they still got 2 bodies. Ash cannot use the 2nd effect in either instance.

They should've had the continuous spell or whatever allow you to manipulate the attributes in your grave similar to what elementsabers and such does. That way you don't HAVE to run like Blazing Inpachi or whatever for SE and then be completely boned if you match up into VV.

If they're willing to release a Primoredial Dragon for Water, Fire and Wind too then I'd be down... pair with Dragon Shrine and Dragon Rulers... the Rulers can be exiled to search the Primoredial... you typically don't need your normal summon in that sort of deck. The current Dragon kinda sucks but if they others that each do something different (and ideally better) then I could see this being fringe playable.

Funny how Josh accidentally used the ideal scenario to use the boss monster as example on how bad it is, timing-wise. You actively want to gain advantage by taking out multiple monsters at once, which a chain of the summon to Poplars effect to summon itself would do just fine, negating and potentially banishing Ash and Poplar. Don't get me wrong, it's not great, but it fits well into the current metagame

The deck needs to be able to special summon a normal monster from deck AND search a primordial monster plus normal summon a primordial monster on your opponents turn for it to have a decent engine, I know I would definitely run nibiru and imperm in the deck build maybe evenly matched

I've seen a lot of lists where Primoredial cards are mixed with either Red-Eyes or Mark Dagician, but I wonder how much the archetype can do for Magikey, which is already a toolbox for any archetype if you're good enough with them. Mister World Champion, care to test them out with Magikey and prove the world that X archetype is just bad because people aren't piloting them well enough?

These cards seem promising, but the biggest issue is how many slots are you actually willing to give up for vanilla monsters? Using a single vanilla isn't effective against every match-up and also makes it possible to get easily crippled by a single D.D. Crow or other banish shenanigans. The spell requiring lower ATK while the Trap requiring an higher ATK is awkward as well, because its obvious Konami expects you to run multiple vanillas with various names and stats for them, but adding in more vanillas to the deck only makes the deck more prone to bricking. I want to like these, but the entire card design just feels so paradoxical.
