I don’t have the patience to watch most “journal with me” videos but yours held my interest, because of the use of the diff inks etc. tk you.

I used to be really into journaling, but had an issue with a breach in privacy from someone close to me, and lost my comfort in it. I've really been enjoying your videos as relaxation though, and ended up buying a hobonichi cousin, and I'm looking for a cool travelers journal for it and some blank pages for journaling. I don't really watch any other journaling content but I like the way you're doing things.

I'm so sorry to hear that. I hope that you end up finding a way to journal that you can feel comfortable with again! For me, only part of it is in expressing private thoughts -- most of the time, I just write about things that happened that day or listing out my favorite quotes or playing with supplies or writing about things that I'd be fine letting other people read (I knew I'd be putting these particular pages on the internet, for example). Until then, I'm glad that you've been able to enjoy watching my videos and I hope they give you some ideas!

I too had my journal (I called it a diary at that time) invaded, and I well remember the sense of violation. It wasn't enough to stop me from writing, though. At first I hid it more carefully and wrote lots of mean things about the intruder, in case she tried it again. But after a while, when she didn't, I kinda relaxed. It did change me for life, though. Since then, I have pretty much always written with the idea of someone else reading it at some point. This has actually been a good thing for me, because it helps me to choose a more objective viewpoint towards my deepest thoughts. It also helps me to look for better ways to view things. I still vent/whine/complain, but I totally acknowledge to myself (and the imaginary reader) that that's what I'm doing. Now that I'm middle-aged (by John Green's definition), I actually find myself hoping people read my journal after I'm gone, and that it helps them remember and know me. This summer I found and read a journal of my mom's from when she was my age, and it was the best thing. Brought me so much closer to her (she died 20+ years ago). So I hope that, if you really want to journal, you don't let the previous breach of privacy deter you. Like Lauren said, if it's a way to document your life, that tends to be a bit less sensitive.

That's awful, when I was a child I used to have a "diary" which always evolved into a book of sorts since I'm a natural writer (natural =/= good). I hated If someone tried to peek and only ever shared extensively with my younger sister as bedtime story.

The same thing happened to me. I’m so sorry you went through that. I felt terribly violated and it has taken so much of me to pick it up again. Just recently I have started once again to reclaim my precious space again. It has not been easy. Hopefully you will be able to reclaim it again. Hold on there 🤍

just what i'm looking for 😊 most journals videos i've been going through are kinda just scrapbooking / making collage. they're nice to look at but they're so crowded to be use for adding my own writings. thank you for showing me how to do pages without too much decorative elements but still look hella nice
@JournalSunshine

Aww, yay! Yeah, I've seen a lot of videos like that too -- I take bits and pieces of inspiration from them and apply it to my own style. Also, some of my journals are wordier than others (I have one that's mostly photos with captions written in the empty space around them) and this one happens to be where I brain dump my thoughts so I end up writing quite a lot in it. So glad that this particular approach resonated with you!

Great video! Please keep it up. I really enjoy seeing journaling videos where people actually write in their journals instead of just pasting in a bunch of torn paper and stickers. I’m looking forward to seeing more of your beautiful handwriting and fountain pens. Now I’m off to JetPens to buy some new fountain pens 😀

Beautiful page, and all those ink pens gives me BIG pen envy! 😜 I like chatty videos or voiceover better as they are easier for me to concentrate on, but yours are beautiful still. Keep at it please!

Cool, that's good to know! I wanted to try a bunch of different methods with this channel and see what goes over well. I have no shortage of things to say about this topic, even if it's just narrating what I'm doing and sharing my creative thought process.

So pretty! Makes me feel like I want to try to make my journal prettier, but at the same time that seems impractical/unimportant for me at this time. The two things I *can* do are write more neatly and switch ink colors more often. And those are probably the biggest two things that make your spread stand out. The stickers and stamps add nice touches, but if the writing was sloppy/monochrome, it would be enough to ruin the whole effect.
@JournalSunshine

That's true! I've practiced my handwriting a lot the last 7 years or so -- making a conscious effort to improve it. I do like decorating my pages, but in this particular notebook, I don't add as many stickers/tapes/papers -- this one's mainly for writing! But I do find that I like the way the pages thicken up over time when I do add pieces like this.

Practical. I started journaling a few months ago, tried to learn from KZfaq and Instagram and found few samples with 'real' writing! All were cut and paste of washi tapes, stickers, coloured papers...Really like your style! My only worry is getting things wrong and it will look awkward with corrections.
@JournalSunshine
@JournalSunshine 2 жыл бұрын
You're the second person to say that today! I'm so glad that my approach resonated with you. I do like the collage/art journal approach too, but in this particular notebook, I end up kind of brain dumping and getting my thoughts out on the page so it does have a lot more writing in it than my other journals.
@kailahmom1
@kailahmom1 2 жыл бұрын
There is no such thing as “getting things wrong” in your personal journal. As far as corrections in your journal, just put a line through it and keep writing. It does not have to be neat, perfect or beautiful; it just has to reflect you.

I will come closer to getting the Diamine Polar Glow, so I probably like it best. The Iroshizuku ( I probably butchered that😑) is a close second for me though. Here's my question though. Do you plot out how you're going to do the layout or is there a method you use? Totally asking for a friend.
@JournalSunshine

I don't think about it too much in advance, I just place a bunch of stickers/stamps/tapes that kind of coordinate and balance them across the page. Then, when I'm happy with the way that looks, I fill in the rest of the space with writing and it usually works out for me. If not, it's not a big deal to me -- there will be a new blank set of pages to start tomorrow!

May I ask what nib size you use to journal?
@JournalSunshine
@JournalSunshine Жыл бұрын
I use a mix of medium and fine nibs for most of it, but the smoke and rose gold TWSBI Eco in this video has a broad nib for headings and doodling. The kaweco has a medium nib, mint blue TWSBI Eco has a fine nib, and I think the Conklin has a fine nib as well.
