I use A6 journals, mostly for space reasons (I'm often journalling on the kitchen table, waiting for my son to finish eating - a process which can take hours). As I make them from Rhodia Dotpad paper, I can use the journal sideways, so it feels like I'm writing on a single sheet of A5 on every layout. So easy to carry, I'm not sure if I will ever change.

I love all the journal experiments you tried this year. It's nice to see that you also quit journals when they don't feel 'right'. I want to quit the journal I'm in right now actually. Maybe I'll just allow myself to quit it on Oct 31st, no matter what 😄. Edit to add: woohoo for using the Weeks consistently! It's my main planner too. 2023 will be my 8th year in a row in one.

I loved seeing the evolution of your journaling over the course of this year! I’ve also been kind of itching to try art journaling/collaging but after a spread or two I instantly miss the look and feel of just pen, paper, and words. Did you ever feel stifled by the process of decorating pages before you could get your thoughts down on paper? That’s the part I struggle with when trying to get more creative with my entries. Thanks for the wonderful video!!

I always enjoy your videos!!! I sure can relate about the 5 year journal. I completed one 2012-2016 and it was such a great experience I tried it again with the same book (Happiness Project one-sentence journal) but it was a fail after only a few weeks. Listening to you talk about coming back to your journals at a later time ... I know I can do this. LOL I didn't like the idea of leaving the top part empty and starting on the 2nd year ... so I may actually type and glue in up to the point where I wrote the first time ... preserving that first year ... but at least I can laugh about it and know that the book will not be wasted. I have a Leuchtturm I will also complete one day and some others that I've successfully come back to and finished years later which is so satisfying! Anyway ... all this just to say I appreciate you so much and your beautiful inspiring videos!!!! I don't comment enough ... I'm almost always in my library room watching on the TV ... and meaning to come back and comment later. :)

My second journal was one of those you find in a bookstore that has nice feeling thick paper and zip cover. I had to force myself to finish it because I felt guilty wasting paper but it was not designed for showing off beautiful inks. Turned out for the best though because I found I love journaling with broad nibs that REALLY show off my inks! I think next time i want to change journals with only a few dozen or less pages I will let myself. Just have to get over the "wasting paper" mindset, my journals have a good life and moving on "early" isn't a waste lol. I am starting my first 5yr with the new year. I decided to diy in a B6 slim Cafe Notes which I think will be the perfect amount of space since I also have a personal journal for long entries. I hope I can stick with it because I really want to use the Hobonichi A5 5yr in 2024 as a family journal starting when I get married.

Ramble on! Love how some of your videos follow that stream of consciousness flow you express elsewhere in your creative life. Yes! Notebook/journal format preference is so personal; you definitely have to "feel" the format. Myself, I'm most comfortable w/ A6 but for my visual journals an A5 feels more expansive & capable of accommodating collage elements. These typically begin as handmade/unique notebooks I pick up here and there. Hardcover Leuchtturm A5 is my go-to for work and study notes (dot grid). I'm on my 2nd five years diary and once again MacGyvered an A6 Stálogy Editor's Series 365 w/ a Midori MD paper cover. Did consider the Hobonichi 5-year, love the paper, but dislike both the pre-printed years AND the cover material. Wish they'd make them w/ the same covers they use for the A6 techo (which I use as a daily planner/journal). Thanks again for sharing!!

Hello, 🙂 I have been using a Hobonichi 5-Year (A5) since 2019. I think you are going to like it. I found the paper to feel a bit to thin, but using a felt tiped pen (like a Sakura Pigma Micron size 01) really helped with the experience of writing (that and a pencil board). I hope you end up liking the Hobonichi 5-Year Techo. 😄

I enjoyed this video. Love seeing what others use for the year. I used Hobo Weeks for 3 years for planning, along with Regular TN Regular inserts for journaling. 2022 I decided to do something different, combining the two purposes into a Leuchtturm A5 Planner. Plans on the left, summary collage and journaling of the week on the right. 2023…Who knows???

For work and sports scheduling, I use the softcover, Leuchturm 1917 weekly planner notebook. The left page maps out my week, while the right page leaves room for notes and planning. I use a Field Notes Brand 56-week scheduler for a daily diary/journal. Each day is only 6 lines or so, so it makes for a nice size entry to talk about the day without feeling overwhelming. For longer journal entries, I'm using a Lochby Field journal with their ruled inserts. So far, the paper quality has worked well with my fountain pens. In the past, I used the Code & Quill Traveler notebook for the longer entries and I may return to that sometime.

I was struggling keeping up with the 5 year in 2018/2019 that it has Many blank spaces. (I got chronically ill) Once I resumed a cohesive routine I went back in, It really bugged me for a while; Until Midori released their gorgeous green leather cover 5 year. It dawned on me I could finish out those years when I came to it's Calendar end by covering them with Comic Book White to correct the year/Japanese Characters. (Washi if some don't mind the bulk may be another fix...) I'm happy to have found a solution because now I can extend my use of the "famous" paper that's no longer being produced by Machine 9 ☺️ Hope you can find a way to utilize that great paper!

Thanks for sharing! I love hearing about your journaling journey/process for this year. I too collage all of my pages in a journal before I start writing in it so that I don’t have to worry about having empty space. After merging my love for scrapbooking journaling, I can’t go back! I decided to use brown ink in my fountain pen to journal the entire month of September (random input, I know 😂). Believe it or not, I have never tried a Lechttrum before but I hear the paper is great. I’m still trying to figure out what my journaling books will be for 2023 so you’ve got me there! 😂. I like the idea of a 5 year journal/diary but I know that I would not make it because I write to much to be constrained to put a “brief” summary of each day. That’s Mission IMPOSSIBLE for me😂😂! Best of luck to you for your 2023 journaling journey. 😊

While I'm not one to collage my journal entries (just plain writing for me), what I did have fun with for my current journal is putting stickers on the journal itself. What a great video! I've been using Black n' Red casebound A5 notebooks to journal in for fourteen years. Last year, I tried Leuchtturm, and fell in love, similar to how I had with the Black n' Red notebooks all those years ago. This year, I almost switched to Leuchtturms for my "daily" journal (I have a bunch of other notebooks for other writing). I decided not to partially because I don't usually like change, but mostly because, if I stick it out until summer of nex year, I'll have been journaling in the same type of notebook (mostly, the company changed hands a couple times) for fifteen years, which I think is pretty cool. Leuchttrum makes a five year journal, too. I haven't tried it yet, but I want to. The Hobonichi looks great, though. I love getting to see how your thought process comes together. Would ever be interested in doing a collage tutorial video? Do you use anything to coat the collages with?

@S.L._
@S.L._ Жыл бұрын
@@adventuredenali Thanks! I keep them. I started journaling when I was ten or eleven years old, but my early journals were all different kinds, and much more sporadic. I used to keep my childhood and teenage journals in a cigar box, and then in a two bottle wine box when they outgrew the cigar box. I went about two years in my late teens/early twenties when I didn't journal at all. When I started again, it was with the Black n' Red notebooks. I used to keep them on a bookshelf. Now I keep them in a plastic tote box in my closet because they took up too much space from my books, and I've moved often, so I like them staying contained. I reread them periodically. I actually hope to type them up sometime, and upload the transcribed files to my cloud storage as a backup, in case I ever lose the physical copies.
