We took an adventurous drive up scenic Utah 12, through Capitol Reef National Park, and into Hanksville, Utah, where we spent our "workweek."
We hiked Little Wild Horse (almost) and Bell Canyons and enjoyed a gourmet lunch trailside :-). The slots were narrow and the views beautiful. We did this hike instead of hiking inside Goblin Valley State Park. We had one day to hike and wanted to get the most bang for the buck, so into the canyons we ventured!
The next day, our friends @cedarandsilver arrived and we headed to see the Martian landscape of Bentonite Hills. On the rough drive in is the Mars Desert Research Station, which was super cool. Too bad we couldn't see it close and personal, but it's restricted access. So, we explored what wasn't restricted on foot and by air as Karen and I flew drones to capture images you can't see from the ground. All we could say was "WOW!" Some of the drone footage was AMAZING! We just had to be cautious of the nearby no-fly areas.
On our final evening, we went over to @cedarandsilver's dispersed campsite to watch the sunset (it was a great one), share some laughs and brews (also great ones), and learn to play swoop while Stormy fixated on Lilya's bird, Mango. It was a terrific evening, but we were all heading out the next morning...until our paths once again converge.
From there, we headed to Moab, where we visited with more friends, did some hiking, and tried out mountain biking Moab-style. We hope to see you there!
