We took an adventurous drive up scenic Utah 12, through Capitol Reef National Park, and into Hanksville, Utah, where we spent our "workweek."
We hiked Little Wild Horse (almost) and Bell Canyons and enjoyed a gourmet lunch trailside :-). The slots were narrow and the views beautiful. We did this hike instead of hiking inside Goblin Valley State Park. We had one day to hike and wanted to get the most bang for the buck, so into the canyons we ventured!
The next day, our friends ‪@cedarandsilver‬ arrived and we headed to see the Martian landscape of Bentonite Hills. On the rough drive in is the Mars Desert Research Station, which was super cool. Too bad we couldn't see it close and personal, but it's restricted access. So, we explored what wasn't restricted on foot and by air as Karen and I flew drones to capture images you can't see from the ground. All we could say was "WOW!" Some of the drone footage was AMAZING! We just had to be cautious of the nearby no-fly areas.
On our final evening, we went over to @cedarandsilver's dispersed campsite to watch the sunset (it was a great one), share some laughs and brews (also great ones), and learn to play swoop while Stormy fixated on Lilya's bird, Mango. It was a terrific evening, but we were all heading out the next morning...until our paths once again converge.
From there, we headed to Moab, where we visited with more friends, did some hiking, and tried out mountain biking Moab-style. We hope to see you there!

Thank you! Though we can’t take all the credit. We shot half, our friends, Cedar and Silver shot the other. It was amazing to see it from that perspective. At ground level, you miss so much. We’ve loved having the drone to capture these amazing landscapes!

Thanks for watching! We still love our Oliver. It goes great, it’s very well built, it has a high-end fit and finish, and the company has been great to work with. The downsides are the joys of having a wetbath, which is not a major issue, just inconvenient; lack of separate shower and sink faucet makes it much more difficult to conserve water as the faucet/shower head combo is not at all low-flow; and having lived on a boat for years before one might expect storage under sears, but all except one contain components that don’t allow for storage. I’d love to work with Oliver on a bit of a redesign to improve efficiencies for those of us who take our Ollie’s on roads less traveled. It’s still better than any other options we have seen, unless you can step up into the $200,000 Bruder trailers. Not in our budget 😉.

Loving the tour of Utah! ❤ How do you like your Froli sleep system?

Thank you! We love it! We’d recommend the Zona, if you don’t mind coughing up extra $. Ours is set up to be firm at our heads, soft at our shoulders (best for side-sleepers) and very firm at the foot, where we climb into the bed. Having lived on boats for over 4 years we’re kicking ourselves for not splurging on these for those! A good night’s sleep is invaluable. Side not, we are not ambassadors for, sponsored by, or receive anything from Froli, just love a good night’s sleep. Cheers!

We wondered what brand are your carrying devices which sit on top of your truck roof and truck bed.

Both are Yakima products. The truck bed rack is a Yakima Overhaul HD, which is a huge improvement over our previous Thule Xporter rack, and we would recommend. It sits on a rolling, aluminum tonneau cover on T-tracks. It can also be mounted directly to your bed, but we wanted to lock up some gear in the bed when traveling. The roof racks are Yakima Baseline towers with Jetstream crossbars. While we love the crossbars, the towers have loosened up on us and need to be checked often. Yakima make better towers, but it all depends on your vehicle’s roof. We would not recommend these if you plan to leave the beaten path very often. They’ve worked for over 20,000 miles, some of it rough, just wish they were a bit more secure. If you have to go with this style, clamp to the seams above the doors, they’re good, just would have preferred to have some that bolt to the roof. This only applies if you’re headed off-road. I think if traveling primarily highways, clamp-ons are sufficient. We hope this helps.
