Israel's Vietnam? (1997): A look at Israel's war with Lebanon, one which became grossly unpopular with the public.
Subscribe to Journeyman here: kzfaq.info_c...
In a graveyard in Tel Aviv, a mother weeps as her soldier son is lowered into his grave. Like so many others he was killed in a Hezbollah attack. For the Jewish State, the defence of the so-called 'security zone' in south Lebanon has been its Vietnam, a thoroughly unpalatable battle in tune with military strategy but not public sentiment. "We no longer want to send our sons off to die in a meaningless war," is the word from typical families. In this report we take a rare look inside the security zone, assessing the possible outcomes should Israel pull out of Lebanon before reaching agreement with Syria over the Golan Heights. A premature withdrawal from Lebanon could well induce a frustrated Syria to crank-up the violence of Hezbollah.

Minute 15:30 there's a mistranslation, Nasrallah is talking about lebanese towns sending people to fight the occupation of Lebanon, and the translation says something along the lines of "the goal is to get rid of the jewish state". This was broadcast on ABC Australia.

Naw, It's worse than Vietnam. Vietnam today has a stable relationship with the United States, and if you go through a Lebanese neighborhood with an Israeli flag you will receive the same welcome as a thief submitted by the "people's justice" in Brazil or India.

That's ONLY because Vietnam (now) has a U.S. friendly regime that embraces Western style capitalism and political cooperation with U.S. interests. _The U.S. cannot coexist with governmental regimes that oppose U.S. interests and Western style democracy._ That relationship was actually quite similar before Vietnam was Westernized post war.

Did you say this is worse than Vietnam war? The amount of bombs dropped in Vietnam was the most out of all wars, and it’s still holding that record. The amount of bombs dropped in Vietnam was compared to multiple nuclear. Are you okay? And you need to consider the fact that US is stronger than any mid eastern country at the time and presently.

The IDF soldier describes the enemy as brutal 😂😂😂😂 Israel had indiscriminately bombed the whole country and allow Christian extremism commit unspeakable war crimes in a refugee camp. Yet still lost the war even with western support. The bully left with a bloody nose

It's insane they were allowed to interview Nasrallah! Was this more common back then, in the '90s? I doubt any foreign media outlets could land an interview with Nasrallah now (even before October 7th).

lol, that’s why every war/invasion/occupation has been a failure. Isreali mothers had to start a protest movement to stop their kids from being sent to get wounded/die in Lebanon. Actually not even Lebanon, only south Lebanon.

Uh no it didn't. there's a combat study done be the US after the 2006 Lebanon War. It covers the history of Hezbollah's formation, and Israel in Lebanon in the 80s to 2000. Israel's performance in Lebanon WAS SHIT. Worse than the US in Vietnam tbh
