Gaza - Under Siege (2001) One of the most densely populated places on earth, the Gaza Strip is home to over a million Palestinians - and is a virtual prison.

Just 43 kilometres long and 10 kilometres wide, most of its residents are refugees who've lived in camps since 1948. Since the Palestinian uprising - the second Intifada - began in September 2000, none of Gaza's 40,000 day labourers have been able to cross the border to Israel. The checkpoint is also closed to all goods and medical supplies coming in from Israel and the West Bank. Local Gazans bear the brunt of Israel's determination to quash the uprising. Some 135 Palestinian children under the age of 15 have been killed by Israel's soldiers - for throwing stones at checkpoints near Israeli settlements. In this episode, Life visits Reyidh and Sabah and their children - just one refugee family trying to cope.

Actually, 20,000 people were working in Israel before October 7 and they chose to throw it all away so they could go on a killing orgy of Jews. Let’s not even talk about the fact that not a single Jew has lived in Gaza since 2005.. They had complete control of Gaza . They could’ve made something of themselves. This part shook me: Man in the video says: "the whole world is watching and turning a blind eye. Never mind, let them stay in their seats" - Year 2001 2001. Not 2024. Not Oct 7 2023, IT WAS IN 2001. Thank you to this channel for showing so many documentaries about Palestine and Gaza from the early 2000s. If this is not enough proof to the world that Israeli occupation and siege is a decades old thing, then I don't know what they will believe.

We've shown monthly films at the library in our city since 2005. We've shown films about Gaza an the West Bank before. We're including this film along with John Pilger's Palestine is still the issue (a 2002 update of the film he made in 1977). Having been aware of the situation all these years and an activist to stop sending our tax dollars to a country that has free health care ----- for Israelis only and that has been a very very evil occupier. Given our MIC and AIPAC subservient congress and presidency it's beyond sad that policies do not change for the better with either party. I get nervous whenever we show something regarding Palestine/Israel, but in this climate I sort of fear that this time may be the end of our almost 20 year run. Hoping not.

They were treated as 2nd class citizens in their own homes, even worse than 2nd class. Had Israel been established with true intensions and with respect as the religion of Judaism demands, no one would be in this state. Resistance only happens towards oppression.
