In this video I will walk you through a complete overview of a secular middle school resource option (also available in lower grades). HMH Journeys is a complete and multi sensory textbook format and language arts option; that can be adapted for homeschool use.
Walkthrough grade 6 with me, as I also show you the upper elementary grade 5. See the build up and transition.

Thanks Arlene for all of the great reviews! I’m learning so much. One thing - when you have a transition/break in video, it tends to cut off some parts of your sentences. We miss the end of a sentence or the beginning of the next. I don’t want to miss anything important! 💕

Hi, thank you but that’s intentional. I talk fast and a lot of edits is repeat info or not important. So when I cut off parts, since I talk fast, it’s sometimes mid rant. So it’s intentional and you didn’t miss anything important. You’ll notice that in all videos or they would all be an hour long.

@@Arleneandcompany oh gotcha. That makes sense. I just always think I’m missing something during the transition. I always like to get all of the information. The reviews are always helpful and I like to make sure I catch all of the details. Thanks for replying 💕

@@kendraharris5128 so glad you find them helpful! Unfortunately due to me my talking speed it’s always going to seem a little cut off, I tend not to breathe between thoughts 😆

This brings me back to my honors english class in junior high, where we studied Romeo and Juliet and some Charles Dickens out of a large language arts textbook. I enjoyed learning that way! Excited for you guys finding something new that works out for your kiddos! These look thorough and fun.

Thanks, I’m excited to map out our final blend of resources, because as usual, I can’t use just one 😆

I used Journeys for Kindergarten and we loved it. I loved that it was so literature based. At that level there were two picture books used and read aloud by the teacher every week. The homeschool package came with all the picture books , teachers manuals, flashcards, etc., and was in my opinion, a fabulous value. It also gave her a really solid foundation in phonics. We finished the curriculum in February of this year, and she is on the verge of being a really fluent reader at 6 and a half. I'm so bummed they stopped offering the homeschool packages. We had to find something else for the grade 1 level. It's nice to see something from another homeschooler that doesn't automatically dismiss any textbook based curriculum. 😊

Absolutely not, there’s so much out there if we keep an open mind. I actually started with textbooks when we first pulled our kiddos. Then I found other programs. I was really bummed out that they no longer have the bundle too. It was a great value too. Thank you for sharing about the lower grades!

Welp, I had decided a couple of weeks ago to go this route and searched and searched for all the pieces for WEEKS 😂 And then I found your video and you made a comment about the most current edition and that’s when the “oh no” moment came. I’m still waiting for them to arrive but apparently I have 2-3 different editions. Let’s keep our fingers crossed that they still align 😂

Oh no! I do think for the most part you will be ok. The extra workbooks can (almost) stand alone. Almost.

Do you know how the Journey's writers handbook compares to Evan Moor's writing 6 trait workbook? TIA

I prefer the journeys format and structure. But EM is a good resource as well.

What are the other textbooks you referenced at the end of the video? Did you use other ELA curriculum with this? Is there a placement guide? Sorry so many questions

You can view my 5th grade curricula video from last year to see what we used and with what blends. Or my update video from February. Both are under the homeschool update playlist 😊

Only briefly in the past. Didn’t grab my attention, so I never looked too much into it.
