In January 1980 Joy Division played their only Berlin gig at Kant Kino, a converted movie theater in Charlottenburg. The gig was an infamous bust -- half-empty venue, shtty sound, hostile audience. Komakino was their response song, it's one of the last songs they wrote and it is far more jagged than anything on Closer. Berlin loves you, Joy Division! We are sorry we were such a shtty audience.

I remember that there was a New Order gig they were doing in Berlin, Bernard called the a horrible audience, and that they would not be playing Berlin again, If I remember correctly.

his is the hour when the mysteries emerge. A strangeness so hard to reflect. A moment so moving, goes straight to your heart, The vision has never been met. The attraction is held like a weight deep inside, Something I'll never forget. The pattern is set, her reaction will start, Complete but rejected too soon. Looking ahead in the grip of each fear, Recalls the life that we knew. The shadow that stood by the side of the road, Always reminds me of you. How can I find the right way to control, All the conflict inside, all the problems beside, As the questions arise, and the answers don't fit, Into my way of things, Into my way of things.

Ian Kevin Curtis is numerically 613 in Hebrew, that is the total number of divine commandments. Ian Curtis is numerically 441 that is equal to "truth". Ian admired Yehiel de Nur, both have inversed dates of birth and death at a tiny few days of difference. There is something really big working beyond Joy Division's surface.

Yes just before the US tour. But what was weird is how fast they became New Order and I filmed them at the Commodore ballroom in Vancouver in super 8 with sound but for the first time the visual only lasted about 5 seconds and only sound for the rest of the film. The song was Blue Monday and the computer percussion screwed up so that they had to stop and reprogram and then start over. All of my films including the Cramps, wall of Voodoo, the Dead Kennedy's and Rank and file were stolen. I also got to meet New Order at a Warehouse after concert party and got them to autograph the ticket for the underground club warehouse party.l once had every album every single including an ideal for living which came with a sticker inside and both the black vinyl and the blue vinyl 10 various artists live at the electric ballroom in which I believe Ian tells out "Remember Rudolph Hess". Can't remember what the title was, but it is the only song that sounds like a punk band with a totally different vocal style than every other single Joy Division song. Also had the hardcover Still album and the US unknown pleasures with the free Komakino EP Flexi disc

I hate when people dislike Joy Division because they criticise Ians voice!! Continuously get stick for loving JD off about 5 of my mates whose heroes are Garth Brooks and Paul McCartney?!?!? People who dont like JD, dont understand JD. Theyre more than just music, the power of all of their songs in its on unique way is genius. The hallow rhythm of Morris' drums, the punch of Hook's bass, the melody of Sumner's guitar, and the deep captivating powerful voice of Curtis. Stands the hair on my neck!

one of the most (if not the most) underated and overlooked joy division tracks, factory couldent seem to give a toss about it at the time, releasing it on a flimsy flexi disc with very limited numbers, if they had put it on a proper single it should have made indie no 1 single and maybe got to 20 or so in mainstream charts. it took eight years for a version on an album, ridiculous
@NormanArches13 жыл бұрын
This might actually be Joy Division's best track. The coda at the end is one of the most chilling moments in all of rock music. Seems like Kino does mean cinema cos Simple Minds did a song a year after this about their travels in Eastern Europe called Kant Kino (Kant I would guess being the philosopher).
@caiofons15 жыл бұрын
It's kind minimalistic, and at the same time their songs are somehow apocaliptical, it brings the new and old at the same time. I feel the intense and tragic pulse of "Historical Devir" on their songs.. It's like a recollection of "totalitarian nightmares" that floats timeless, like "1984" Orwell's.

@mrj8239 part two, the problem was there was large demand for unknown pleasures, but factory could only afford 10,000 copies (check that number) for the 1st release & could not print more before cash came back from retail sales, factory had no real money to cure the cash flow, because the other bands basically made sod all (without jd factory would have folded). one small point, i think you should have said two years before komakino, i believe it was recorded march or april 1980

I reckon they would have been finished by late 81 or 82 at the latest. If you see the interviews with Annik Honore it was obvious she was protective and jealous of Curtis and the rest of the band were not particularly enamored of her - classic Yoko recipe and the thing was already falling apart by 1980 from within due to his illness.
@birdandthe13 жыл бұрын
@mrj8239 reply part 1 logic tells me factory had to be interested in the money around the release of unknown pleasures and afterwards (though giving the impression they dident really care) i have read and seen on interviews many times, that factory had a desperate cash flow crisis with unknown pleasures which virtually paralysed factory, (go to part two)
