As someone who has solved a mastermorphix multiple times, I agree about it being weird to turn. The way I naturally hold the cube causes parts to turn when I don’t want them to, and it often slips out of my hands.

My main issue with doing OLLs and PLLs on cubes that the center piece orientation is important is that there are a lot of algorithms that flip center pieces (sometimes even the center pieces of the non top layers). That's why doing the begginer method is so good for them. It doesn't turn the center pieces.
@JPerm
@JPerm 2 жыл бұрын
Yeah knowing how to do center rotations is super important for these weird puzzles. If I'm familiar with the puzzle, I sometimes save them all for the end.

I got a 4x4 version of this puzzle and it's actually the most frustrating puzzle I have because it's so hard to tell which pieces are in the right spot since some of them look identical, like when solving centers, I often get a case where it's impossible for me to solve the last 2 centers, and in my first attempt, I could not figure out what was wrong. Turns out, some of the solid color centers can be put in the wrong place but still look right and you have no way of knowing until you reach the last 2 centers. There's also the annoying thing with parity because you can't do the normal 4x4 parity algs since they'll mess up the centers on this puzzle, so you have to mess around finding which of the second layer edges are actually top layer edges until you get a case that seems solvable. On top of that, it was technically my first 4x4 cube 'cause I got it from a mystery puzzle order before I even learned normal 4x4
@Autoskip
@Autoskip 2 жыл бұрын
You think that's bad? I've got the 5×5 version! It's in my sub-collection of rubiksoids that I can solve, but I do not scramble.
@vib80
@vib80 Жыл бұрын
The secret is to not solve this by reducing to a 3x3... reduce it to a 2x2. Solving a 4x4 cube this way also has the benefit of avoiding parity issues caused by similar looking pieces. Basically, the pyramid version, the 8 octants are divided into 2 types... pyramids (with the corners) and triangles (just face pieces). The pattern of these is every-other, so it's like AI cube... solve the pyramid ones first, and the shapeshifting goes away and you're just left with 1-colour pieces to put together to get the 2x2 which you then solve.

Reminds me of when a friend brought in his daughter's "cube" to work and asked me to solve it. I had never even heard of an axis cube before and I spent a good 4 hours working it out. Once I realised it was a 3x3 in disguise it got a lot easier. But the unnatural way it looks confused the hell outta me!

As an escape room designer, I can assure you that having a puzzle like this in a room would make for a really boring experience. A tiny puzzle that only one person can work on at a time, likely to take up the entirety of the average player's time because it requires significant outside knowledge to be able to solve quickly. It's a great puzzle, but absolutely not a fit for an escape room. We have one in our lobby for people to mess with before playing, though!

I've had one of these for a while now. I enjoy the false equivalence this puzzle creates. Adds another dimension to solving it.

I stumbled across your channel a couple months ago, and decided to give cubing a try. I bought a 2x2 and a 3x3. I solved the 2x2 alone, and the 3x3 following your guide. Thanks for getting me into the hobby!!!

I remember i got the mastermorphix as a birthday gift from my classmates!! I was so excited that i scrambled it immediately, and they're like omg what's this you won't be able to solve it But i managed getting the first 2 layers together, but couldn't figure oit how to solve the last layer, the i watched some tutorials and it worked This is one of my favourite "cubes", i really love the way it turns

I got this cube a month ago and this thing completely melted my brain when I first tried solving it. The last layer of this cube was hard to solve but in the end I somehow figured it out.

I thought this was a hard puzzle to solve, "Wow! It can morph! It must be hard to solve!". Nope it's just a 3×3×3 where the center matters.

Dude, the 'soft triangle cube' or 'mastermorphinx' basically can shape shift because the cube is made of triangle pieces. So the cube can change into whatever it want. So be very carefull when you're speedcubing it or else you will end up in more catastrophe. Anyways, Love you.

also, the cube not only can shape shift but also the scrambles are very unique as well.

In the pyramorphix, the holes are the same as the holes in the middle of a 2x2 face. If you look at it like that it's easy to see how it works.
