This is my first attempt to build a Shortwave Loop Antenna. I already have some improvements on mind but they will be on another video!

Very good choice of music. This was my first record as a kid in the early 1950's, when I build a Hi-Fi. No stereo in those days.

Magnetic loops like this work very well on transmit too, for amateur radio. With your tuning capacitor you could operate with a few watts but at higher powers you'd need a wide spaced variable capacitor as it would arc over with the very high voltages at the ends of the loop at resonance. mag loops really do work well and can make a big difference if you live in an area with lots of noise on the bands. Very nice build! 73

I agree it is a good looking antenna, thanks for sharing, Love the music also. I am always building all sorts of contraptions for my receivers, and that tune that comes in at 6:46 I have heard here in England can you tell me what it is from... Anyway like I was saying my antenna's are a hit or miss as I have hundreds of feet of various size copper wire donated to me for some PC system work I did for my local cancer hospice " I found it in trash dumper " I have very little knowledge on antennas and find it very confusing. Thanks good upload I may try one of theses one day.

Nice job. You might want to consider attaching a 6:1 vernier drive to that capacitor. It would give you a little more precision in the tuning.

Thanks for the nice comment. I'm a kind of "tool-holic" hehe! About stain the bench...I don't think so, since that help me to remind that is a "Work-bench" and not just a nice "bench" to care of...so being as it is right now, a couple of scratches here and there, make it look better and "well used" than with a bright polished varnish coat!

Nicolas Solop Hola Nicolas. Saludos Y felices radio escuchas!

Juan David Barrada entiendo Juan!!!
@juandavidbarrada
@juandavidbarrada 7 жыл бұрын

This antenna is better than long wire antenna or RGP3 antenna? Isso think the long wire antenna with balun is the best antenna in shortwave (SWL) or not?!
@juandavidbarrada
@juandavidbarrada 9 жыл бұрын
João Damasceno Hi. I'm not sure if this antenna is better than the "Long Wire Antenna" with a Balun, I haven't done a comparison between those two but I can tell you that this one works great! (By the way, I'm going to do the comparison exercise soon....you got me thinking about it!)

I've just found this info on the web and I've been doing some experiments about of it..."trial and error"...but I think that finally I found the right coupling for my radio. I'm attaching the link to the page where you can find some info on this matters and some also some drawings (unfortunatelly is "just a bit" of info): www.mds975.co.uk/Content/dxshtwave.html Sorry I couldn't help more. Please let me know if this way works for you.

Thanks a lot. I guess, I ve done well, but this make me clear, because I have to match better..... By the way:(It is usually much more effective to indirectly couple the aerial to the radio: Wind the last few centimeters of aerial wire into about 6 to 20 turns around a paper tube and slide this over the telescopic aerial and adjust its position along the rod until the best signal coupling is found. Sometimes even better results are obtained by connecting the free end of the wire to earth.)

Excellent video tutorial! Cool, I'm planning on building one soon for my Tecsun PL-310ET. I'm looking at your plans and also the instructions at www.kr1st.com/swlloop.htm to figure things out. What range variable capacitor should we use? Is the coupling loop electrically isolated from the main loop? Does it have to be at the side or can it be central of the main loop? Does it have to be 1/5th the size? Thanks.

This a is a wrong way to build a short wave antena, you will never have a good signal, the short wave radios works on band wave lenghts of 60, 49 , 31, 25,19,16, 13 and 11 meters and in order to get a good reception the wire lenght must be designed at least to pick up a 1/2 wave lenght of the electromagnetic signal short wave; I have a ZENITH transoceanic radio fully restored wich has a very good reception stations from Cuba, Spain, Checoslovaquia, China, Rumania, USA, Francia, Brazil; I must tell that today there are few countries transmiting in short wave in comparation with the 40's, 50's, 60', 70's.

You are talking about "wire lenght" which corresponds to a wire antenna as its name indicates, this is an "active -tunable- loop antenna"...and please believe me when I tell you that I have awesome results! (As you can see and hear in the video!😉) Thank you for commenting my video. 73's!

@@juandavidbarrada Thanks for your answer, my comment is just to explain how an electromagnetic wave is handled and received on a transmission line, there are a lot of antena experiments, but for me doesn't work.
