KK seemed to be so underappreciated in the band and publicity was never centered on him. He was as much the JP ingredient as anyone. His rhythms and over the top leads were the essence of JP. Of the bunch he is my hero! The cameras and spotlight always seemed to center on Glenn who is great but it always undermined what KK was doing.

Could not agree more! KK is a huge inspiration to thousands of guitar learners, quite literally. He was exactly as important as Glenn. AFAIK this was KK's main reason to quit Judas Priest. He felt himself humiliated. I can absolutely understand him.

Priest is Ken. Tipton always comes across as a wanker. A totally over rated guitar player. Yes, he's got Parkies, I've had family die the same, so he doesn't get that sympathy card from me. Ken is the soul of JP.

@vinskeeter I loved Sad Wings Of Destiny, Sin After Sin, and Stained Class. But British Steel did nothing fer me, sorry but to my ears it was absolutely dire. I hated BTL, just saw nothing in it. I love classic Sabbath esp Vol 4, Sabotage, etc, Purple, Zep, Floyd, Montrose debut album, Priest albums up to Stained Class, saw them live on the Stained Class tour, loved it, stuff like Beyond The Realms Of Death, all that stuff, love it to bits, but later JP and stuff like Maiden went straight over my head, just not my cup o' tea, sorry.

Great double bill. Unleashed in The East, indeed! Then came British Steel, with it's powerful, unified breakthrough. And it's best songs: Rapid Fire Steeler Metal Gods Grinder The Rage Breaking The Law You Don't Have To Be Old To Be Wise *On a personal note, I had just bought my first "real guitar" in '79.... a Black Stratocaster with a lacquered maple neck. Exactly like Tipton's in much of these live clips. Cut my teeth on that guitar and became very good in short time. So seeing it here also adds an extra bit of nostalgia.

👍👍 Actually I prefer the JP version (especially the 1979 live version) - much more energetic and heavy. The Fleetwood Mac original version (~1970) is a pure Blues/Psychedelic trip. Very moody, doomy and kinda slow moving with the same instantly recognizable riff/verse and very interesting, too. But the FM version sort of meanders/improvises whereas the JP version sticks to the main verse throughout. RIP Peter Green. @@latentsea

Their best album. Sure, they have made albums that are faster and heavier and more progressive and serious, but really makes British Steel their masterpiece imo is that factor of FUN. The songs on BS often get criticized as being too commercial or simple or accessible, but that’s exactly what the band wanted to be from the very beginning, even admitting so themselves. Everything from Rocka Rolla up the Killing Machine was them working out the kinks and truly finding that perfect combination of heavy metal and accessibility while still absolutely being metal and they did..they really did..this album brought heavy metal to the mainstream masses, and with that, they accomplished their first real dream or goal as a band. Once that was finishing, they set out for new music and band goals as Judas Priest and made other truly excellent records! But, there’s just a spontaneity to British Steel in 1980 that no other album of theirs has, and while some may be sick of songs like Breaking the Law and Living After Midnight and may not see them as very metal today, for 1980 they were metal. Amazing album and perfect to me. No wonder it’s the favorite JP album of the band themselves! Long live the Priest, cheers! 🍻

Of course the drummer isn’t involved in the interview lol. I keep waiting for the drummer to explode. JP drummer? That should be a investigative search.

To get a producer out there instead of bringing K. K bk out there is probably the biggest huh? I can remember in the band. I saw there Screaming tour bk in the day.. They blended like no two guitarists I have ever heard.

All 4 guys here seemed to have a good vibe back in 2010. Although I did notice Glenn not laughing at KK's jokes, lol. What really happened, KK ?

I liked British steel alot but to Me it started them on the path to a more commercial sound for the masses it worked they sold more records the scorpions did the same thing after uli left sold more records.more commercial commercial. I liked rocka Rolla sad wings sin after sin stained class killing machine just better material material in my opinion

So true. Although it's a good album, it doesn't compare to sad wings, stained class, or killing machine. Those 3 albums are totally incredible and unbeatable. Plus for me, Les Binks was the best drummer priest ever had

True perhaps but it was always their destiny to evolve into the the metal gods. While I enjoy those early albums British Steel is metal greatness.

For sure but time moves on and their path was great including commercial point of entry. Then it was over for me.

Typical priest platitudes. The rare moments when they dispense with the generalizations and actually discuss the process are much appreciated.

The metal God's speak with class, as gentleman's. Their music...top notch. Today's scenery? Predominantly is the oposite: poor music and lack of class.

KK lacked stage presence. He looked like he didn’t want to be there most of the time, like it was too much work. Glenn was the complete opposite. He got the crowd going and was a big flirt. Even Ian is fun to watch. Now, with Richie, Scott, and Andy, they ALL look like they are truly having fun.
