Definitely one of the most creative guitarist of all time. Their first songs/albums were so "out of the box" compared to what others were doing back then. Priest paved the way for the metal we hear today. My all time favorite band!!!!

@Jeff Mitchell It definitely shows on Glenn's playing, at least on the 70s albums, maybe early 80s. Rory was a great player but I think Glenn surpassed him.

Gosh, i feel so lucky (and old) that i saw priest back in 79 as an opener for AC/DC. I stood right infront of the stage, infront of Glenn & his guitar work impressed me from the very first minute, Back then, he was still playing a SG & the black Strat.. It was mindblowing and up to today the loudest i`ve ever heared.

@MikeLamb24 Their latest tour was great. Granted he may not be as schooled as a lot of the newer guitarists out there, but few can say they started a musical revolution. The fact that Glenn moved away from Crate and went to a Mesa rack system helped his live sound tremendously. Perfect volume settings, effects, the whole production that they lacked live for years was finally there.

Glen is on the level of Satriani, Vai, Van Halen, Clapton, Page, Hendrix, but will never get the recognition as a guitar hero because he's in a "Metal" band. Malmsteen, and any of the guys in Priest or Maiden can not only shred hell, but play rock and blues on the level of Clapton, Stevie Ray Vaughn or Hendrix. They all have killer feel, tone and vibrato. Angus Young is another example, probably the best electric guitar blues soloist ever, but will never be recognized as such.

If all the Hard Rock/ Heavy Metal Players in the 80's era, Glenn Tipton always was of my favorites. His style, feel, and chops make his solos very memorable and great concepts to the songs of Priest. Sure their was Lynch, Campbell, Lee, Malmsteen, Hammett, any many more who stood out more, but in my mind lacked the feel and practicality to command a legendary Metal Band.
