@@unwokeneuropean3590 I'm sure. Child support AND alimony are outdated for the times and need to be eliminated. They were established for women who couldn't manage or earn the same back then. In today's world, women are graduating at a higher rate then men from college, and have every opportunity to WORK for equal pay. If a women chooses not to make better live decisions, bettering herself; that's on her. It should not be the exs responsibility to pay the other ex as if she were a dependent still. She's not. My little brother married when he was poor. She became a RN, he became an hourly exterminator. She started looking down on him, he came home one day and everything was gone. Her, the kids, the dogs, the furniture...everything. in court she attested to all this. They agreed on joint custody. In Arizona, it's a no fault State, it's about the conditions the children are accustomed to being raised in. When the judge finished calculating the child support, and then turned to her and asked her what date of the month she would like to start payments on, her head about spun off in disbelief. Then when he calculated how much of their possessions she had to pay him for that she took, she was spitting mad. Was a thing of beauty.

This is why courts give custody to men mostly, because the state gets a portion of the child support due to Title 4 of the Social Security act. That's heartening to see. I was awarded full custody of my twin boys when their mother's robust meth, oxy, adderall, and *whatever else* habit was made public. Before that, I was paying her $1k/mo in child support. She'd constantly demand more from me, saying that kids didn't have clothes or food at her place. I'd always tell her that the boys had everything they needed at my place, and to go ahead and drop them off if she couldn't handle it. Of course that would trigger her usual response of, "maybe I should take you back to court so you can't see your kids". I always knew she was bluffing; I had the kids every Thursday night through Sunday night, for over a decade, and I knew she'd never do anything to possibly mess with her party weekends. I was approached later by a former friend of hers who told me that she'd been spending my child support payments on her drugs for a long time, big surprise. Now, after getting custody she's gone full deadbeat and refuses to help with the kids at all. She militantly refuses to work, so she can avoid (gasp!) paying any support. She can't even be trusted to bring the kids to appointments, so I get to miss work all the time. Every couple months, sporadically, she'll give the kids a bag of used clothes that are usually waaay to small. Not saying I need her financial support but damn, how the system allows a strong and empowered woman like her to avoid being responsible to her children, blows my mind. I remember missing a payment once due to an injury that kept me out of work for a couple weeks. Two days after the missed payment I got a notice from "family services", stating how they'd started paperwork to have my license revoked and me thrown in jail for refusing to pay.... after ONE missed payment. Nothing like that whip at your back to keep you working, through injuries and all. That was the first, and last, c.s payment I ever missed. But here we are, almost three years after she lost custody, and she hasn't sprung a dime to support our kids. And the courts don't seem too bothered. I'm just bitching now, so I'll stop. I am damn grateful that I'm in a place where I can assure my boys are well taken care of, and they are. They are my favorite people on the planet! Thanks for reading, if you've made it this far.
