FRANCES ETHEL GUMM AKA JUDY GARLAND IS THE BEST SINGER TO EVER GRACE THE WORLD WITH HER VOICE. JUDY SANG INTO OUR HEART'S FROM THE: 1930's,1940's, 1950's 1960-1969 JUDY'S VOICE STILL RING'S TRUE TODAY AND FOR ALWAYS AND ALWAYS.

I had no idea that Judy sang this song AGAIN, four weeks after her iconic, legendary rendition of it only four weeks earlier. The amazing original was sang with Judy wearing a totally beaded dress, and during the re-singing she had on a white outfit. Listen to the original first. it is mesmerizing and unforgettable. This version is also legendary. You can still see in her face the intense sorrow and pain she felt about losing her good friend...JFK. Thanks so much for posting it for us. There's was a great friendship. JFK would occasionally call Judy out of the blue on the telephone and ask her to sing "Over the Rainbow" for him, because it soothed him.

I was once told I sounded like Judy Garland when I sang. It was a piano player Sam that was a visitor accompanist for a performance in high school honors chorus. I was first offended because I thought she was too seasoned for my 16 year old taste at the time. Now I take it as a tremendous compliment. Thanks Sam :)

One of the greatest voices of the 20th century. No doubt about it. She could be drunk or drugged, but she could could sing better then anybody. Such a shame she herself coudln't experience how great she was - the way the public always could do after the first couplet. Like Sinatra said: in the long run we will all be forgotten but not Judy.

Kitty Viveen Judy, being an intelligent woman, knew how popular she was and how great her legendary status became. But fame and public adulation isn’t emotionally or spiritually sustaining; it just isn’t enough (on its own) to keep a person mentally healthy.

@@elspethcoogan1499 yes I agree with you. It doesn't matter how other people see you. In june 1962 Time magazine had a question for their reader: Who is the most loved person alive? The "winner" was by far Marilyn Monroe. A month later she committed suicide. I do believe that it has to be there within. When it's not, you can have the whole world loving you, it doesn't matter. You will still feel awfull.

Roger Edens once remarked that Judy did not have a normal diaphram, but a super diaphram that created such vocal power, and it took a while for her and Roger to figure out the best ways to help it thrive and be utilized through Judy's body. That could explain why she looks like she is about to explode the sound is so powerful and she is allowing it to flow thru all of her resonating passageways to create the brilliant performance you are watching.

peterson what you said is historically incorrect. Judy Garland has always flubbed a word here and there. Roger (Edens) told Hugh (Martin) to let it go when she sang an incorrect word in the Trolley Song, because the acting and musical interpretation of the song will not get any more perfect than it is. Now when it comes to Judy Garland and her razor sharp mind (and yes there were times when the drugs might make her seem sluggish, but she was always batting home runs for the overall song)m she acted in real time, and has done so many different arrangements to many of thousands of songs she sang, if she missteps, she catches herself, and then as you do witness in this video, that she gives you her all, with an even more determined acting/vocal prowess, that even if she does flub a word, you walk away after watching her, and WOW!!! put any brilliant adjective in there, there are not enough to describe how amazing and how brilliant of an artist and performer Judy Garland, was and will always be.
@ALJarman1
@ALJarman1 5 жыл бұрын
It's probably a good thing that she flubbed a lyric once in a while... it makes her audiences remember she was human, after all. Her amazing voice, body language, reading of her lyrics, and apparent indestructibility made it easy, a lot of the time, to forget that!
@lindseysanders3656
@lindseysanders3656 3 жыл бұрын
This kind of performance is better anyway, flubs all. Anybody who performs makes a mistake now and then, sometimes a lot, myself included. Nowadays they have all this technology to fix all of it, which I think makes it less real and lacks a connection between artist and audience. With this much talent, who cares what she says. If I hadn’t known or preformed this song before, I wouldn’t have noticed a thing. You have to put meaning into what you sing, and she did into every single note.
@craigslivka1
@craigslivka1 3 жыл бұрын
@@lindseysanders3656 there was something in Judy's DNA that always made the seemingly unworkable or flubbable seem very workable or appealing on the eyes and ears. There was something in her style, sound, soul that enabled an incredibly super fast mind to go to very hard to reach places for a performer. Vincent once said in an interview that you could tell her a thousand things and you were not sure if you were getting thru to her (since her hair was being done, or makeup retouched), but when the cameras rolled they were all there. Judy was super talented but also a sponge, she loved soaking up talent around her, and utilizing it at the right moment(s), she was brilliance personified.

On the back story of a video with Judy and Barbra Streisand, there's a story about the rehearsal that day... Imagine being in that studio/auditorium as THOSE two voices came together and reverberated all throughout the space! It was commented how the stage hands and technicians were moved to tears in most cases. I was in tears just reading the story

Piero Francesco Scaglione I like the first one because it was an emotional tribute to her friend and leader! She only performed it in memory of John F. Kennedy, so the first one had a purpose! I love her no matter what, but this one was because she got a request to sing it again! So she did this version to ENTERTAIN and the other one to DEDICATE TO SOMEONE! But I do love this one too!

She sang the ending that Mort Lindsey had arranged for her this time; in the first performance, she just holds onto the last note for what seems like an age, while the choir and orchestra (all playing THIS arrangement) gradually catch up so they can end together!

Piero Francesco Scaglione II They both have a different quality. The first version Judy sang it with sadness, anger, disbelief as well as a sense of immediacy so soon after the death of her friend JFK. In this performance there is still the passion for the meaning of the song, and I dare say she was still grieving, but it seems less raw. I’ve not seen her end a song as she does in this clip with the last note being cut off when she jerks the microphone away from her mouth.
