I guess I dont find this to be a topic of controversy. If a game is too expensive for what I feel, it's worth it. I just dont buy it. If I feel a subscription is too much for what it offers, I just dont buy it. Then I move on with my day

I have a reply to this ubisoft b.s. . N.M.S. come out in 16 and it was BAD. That said they had goals in mind and since then have given us 21 updates going way beyond there hopes. At zero cost. We need more studios that work on the principles of fun not profit.

There is competition for my dollar and attention. If I can’t own games at all then im out of the hobby. I don’t buy life service games, no exceptions. Vote with your dollar. That’s the only power we have.

I even miss when a little bit of patience got you a definitive edition. Now it seems like that will be gone soon by those who haven't already done away with it.

Most of these, if not all triple A companies are publicly traded. Of course they’re going to try to squeeze as much out of consumers to bring up shareholder value. Stay away from those gaming companies. They’re no longer for the gamer. I’m sure there’s some exceptions.

Love good subscriptions. If I purchased half of the movies or shows I watch on Netflix I’d spend a ridiculous amount more than the cost of the subscription. Also love game pass. I only need to play through two 70 dollar games a year and I’ve saved money and I play a whole lot more than that. That being said there are certainly bad subscriptions and you only have so much time so makes sense to only prioritize the subscriptions you would use the most. When it comes to “owning” couldn’t care less to own shows or movies will not rewatch most and I place but higher value on having a stream of new content Same for game pass, I’m no longer willing to spend 60-70 on most games. And unless it’s a multiplayer game or a special case like Skyrim I won’t replay it enough to wish I spent 70 to say I own the “digital right” much rather the large library of both AAA and indie titles. The only games I buy are if I see a great discount on steam for my steam deck. To each his own but I love the subscriptions I have and will enjoy them as long as they continue to offer games I care about

I agree with you man I miss the old days of gaming buy a game physically pop it in and play AAA games are dang near dead to me at this point they just annoy me

Subscription services have killed the art medium in film, tv, music, and games. Quantity over quality.

Our economic system requires that publicly traded companies increase profits quarter after quarter until the end of time. You can only have “endless” economic growth by screwing over employees first and then consumers. The only remedy is for us consumers to stop buying. I’m done with subscriptions across the board. I’ll play old games exclusively if the entire games industry goes the subscription route

I swear you can read my mind then make content about exactly what I am questioning in my mind towards my gaming experience. I realized that I have an insane amount of games for my PS5 and Switch. I also want to get into PC gaming. Before I go down that road, I told myself I need to make a dent in my backlog. I have been bouncing back and forth between the two systems. Currently I am playing Star Wars: Squadrons on the PS5. I just finished Mario 3d World, before that was A Plague Tale: Innocence, before that was FF7 on the Switch (first time ever playing that) before that was FF7 Remake, and before that was Metroid Prime Remastered...I have been going back and forth and having a total blast! No subscription needed, I did not buy any of these games at full price. It's just been nice making a dent without spending a ton of money. Also been using remote play (with the 3rd part app I'm not even going to attempt to spell) on the steamdeck to help me get through my PS5 games. I am almost ready to cancel my yearly PS5 online access because I have not even played online in I don't know how long.

Speaking of using steam deck on the go. What do you do if a game requires WiFi or internet to play? Hotspot on your phone or public WiFi?

The “why” isn’t as important as the “what.” If you’re a gamer who doesn’t like subscription services, then you’re already on the right track regardless of your reasons.

If you buy games from these companies... cut-and-dry... YOU are part of the problem. I stopped buying damn near anything from these sorts of companies. If I miss out on games, so be it. I refuse to be part of the problem. LoL.

I will start with this. I use steam and only steam. But just because you "buy" it on steam does NOT mean you own it. It CAN still be taken away. Ubisoft and Sony have already proven that.

That’s weird, I’ve actually recently drifted away from newer titles and turned to playing emulators on the Rog Ally. Was going to download Kingdom Hearts today as I’ve been wanting to play it for the first time

AC Origins was their peak IMHO, beautiful and entertaining game, from there it is been downhill not for AC games but Ubisoft as whole. I predict even devoted fans can not save them. They will survive somehow next few years and then Microsoft will knock on the door.

You will likely still have all your subscribers, or, follow the rabbit hole down and lose what you have or surround yourself in the darkness. The gaming industry is not dead, stale or lame. The gaming industry is thriving. Stop and smell the flowers man.

The whole Ubisoft stuff doesn't bother me because I'll never buy an Ubisoft game. Simple as that. Same thing with EA. Same with Rockstar. Same with a lot of modern AAA devs. Instead of shouting and wasting energy being angry about stuff that has been happening for a while, maybe we should highlight the indie darlings making actual good games. Supergiant with Hades II, SFB with Crow Country, Soulgame with Minishoot Adventure.

If everybody were to do what you suggested then we wouldn't be in this situation to begin with. The gaming market we see today is a monster of our own making. The only reason these companies keep doing stuff like this is because people are stupid enough to continue buying into it instead of actually voting with their wallet. It started with sports titles like NBA 2k and Madden, keeping out content of the standard version just so you can buy the Ultimate/Legendary version of a full paid game. Then just like I as well as others feared, that practice seeped into other genres of gaming, and it clearly worked because they are still doing it today.
