Little mistakes can cost lots of time when you don't know exactly when trains run. One thing for sure, Rocket Fuels at the Hermiston, OR exit on I-84 sells a decent chicken strip!

I had a really shitty day today, and this video just made it better, before I lay my head down and close my eyes for the night. Thanks

21:00 onwards.... does anyone else find the low roar of an EMD incredibly soothing? Makes me want to sleep. One of your best trips ever, I revisit this one a lot

George, the bottom line is, the chicken strips were by far more important, and you know that.

Some days you eat the bear.....and some days the bear eats you. Thanks for sharing both sides. Your drone footage of the yards brings back memories of the '60s in Army Intelligence School where we learned how to target rail yards for the most effective bombing. Happy hops!

Curious what are those big green circles in Hermiston? Grass? Water? What are they for? Thanks for sharing your adventures, really eye opening! ❤
@Jumpingoffthecliff
@Jumpingoffthecliff 29 күн бұрын
Those are areas where crops like alfalfa are grown. There is a type of irrigation system known as a center pivot where a giant sprinkler system gradually rotates around the circle you see. The pivot is located in the center of the circle and water is pumped into the pivot system and is sprayed through sprinkler heads located along the pivot arm. The arm rotates because of motorized wheels on it. Center pivots are a common type of irrigation method used in many of the western states.

I’ve always wondered what it looked like from the rails having driven 84 dozens of times.
@Jumpingoffthecliff
@Jumpingoffthecliff 6 ай бұрын
I've driven that a few times myself. The last time I was eastbound and just made it over Cabbage without chains on as the snow was piling up. The chain law went into effect after I was headed down! I had a KW-700 I loved. It was late 2007 if I recall.

I don't understand why the railroad doesn't routinely lock up the power units. What's the advantage of leaving them open to potential riders?
@Jumpingoffthecliff
@Jumpingoffthecliff Ай бұрын
They're usually locked.

There's a card on the back wall of the cab where they make an entry with the date and time the locomotive was last inspected.

@@andrewthacker114 it’s very quick. I think they just look for alarms on the screen and give it a quick once over for anything obvious.

What is a stack train?
@Jumpingoffthecliff
@Jumpingoffthecliff 5 ай бұрын
It's an intermodal train type that carries double stacked containers. I think it might actually be a brand name one of the railroads uses for their container service that is now the generic term for stacked container trains.
