A game that was know for blowing stuff up decides to have a sequel where blowing stuff up does not reward you

My gripe with Just Cause 4 was things respawned when I didn't want them to, I loved seeing things I destroyed previously still destroyed, felt like progression but when things came back I felt like I was doing nothing, at all, It was completely disappointing.

Four different games, four different Ricos. What the fuck, Avalanche?

The only places you HAVE to go to in Just Cause 4 are each province's singular major base that the missions are located in. Every other settlement is borderline useless, and most towns have only a couple of chaos objects. In Just Cause 3, some provinces had more than one base to destroy.

I’ve actually heard some rumblings about Just cause 5. They certainly at least set the story up for there to be another game. I personally have had lots of fun in JC4 but your opinions are completely valid. It’s clear that they cut a LOT of corners.

Nope, that would still be Just Cause 1. That game aged very, VERY poorly.

It especially doesn’t help that those like me who like trophy hunting, there are over 400 challenges that all involve just walking, flying, or driving through a ring. How fun. Not to mention, all locations you have to discover aren’t even marked on the map meaning you have to find them all yourself, there isn’t even fog of war to know places you haven’t been before.

I thought you were just going to shit on this game but you actually put together a good balanced review with the pros and cons, good job, loving your content and have subbed. I personally enjoyed Just Cause 4 more than 3 but mainly because my favourite aspect of a Just Cause game is the map, and the map in 4 was much better than 3 imo due to variety.

100% agree with everything said in this video. Back when Just Cause 4 came out I actually bought the game on launch day and then never even downloaded it. I probably thought it just needed some bug fixes but after seeing enough feedback about the game I just lost all motivation to start playing. Then last year after forgetting about the negative feedback I randomly started playing Just Cause 4 one day, as soon as I discovered that destroying buildings has zero impact on campaign progress I uninstalled it.

Good content and good review. Really like it. Fun to watch. Keep doing what you're doing. BTW, it is worth it just for the exploration and nature? I have it free on Epic. I tried it 2 times before, but uninstalled it. Dunno JC2 and 3 were more fun and engaging.

honestly this game is just worse than Just Cause 3, but it's still better than Just Cause 1 and Just Cause 2.

i aint play just cause until just cause 4 reloaded it started off good but as u go on u see it starts to make no sense..everywhere u go people are after u .its like nothing is organized..missions all over the place.i tried playing it a while back i had to cutt it off.i even bought some stuff out the black market place just to find out the stuff wasnt available.so i put the game down again

Just imagine what could we have if this thing got at least 1 year more in developement. When you look at some cutscenes from trailers, you can clearly see they had something more prepared but they had to scrap everything off due to publisher stupid demands to release the game before christmas

I have played jc3 and it is significantly better than jc4, but i did find myself wanting to play jc4 more than jc3 because my brain just loves the realistic explosions and graphics, dont get me wrong jc3 has great graphics but jc4 was more of my type of game

Wow. There is a huge difference in the visuals. Looks like some early 2000s matrix/war movie knock off with all those muted colors. Them dumping so much seems like my Just Cause Experience ends with number 3. RIP, Rico, we hardly knew you. On the other hand I just bought Just Cause 3, got about a half hour under my belt, but after years of playing JC2, I am so excited to play it.

my first Just cause game was 4, I saw 3 was on sale a few days ago and boy... I'm having way more fun than i remember play just cause 4 (i barely remember playing that game)

So, you really just didn't care for Just Cause 4. I hated it because there was one mission that had me in this dome-like structure, and there were panels, that I either had to protect, or destroy- I don't remember- but the fact was, I couldn't SEE THEM. I couldn't tell which were destroyed or not destroyed and I'm getting shot at the entire time I'm trying to see, and I just failed over and over until I rage quit and never played it again. Ever.

This is a way better review than Luke Stephens's dog water review of Just Cause, it deserves more views and you deserve more subs. I remember quitting this game in a few hours after I realized that there is no base liberation and you no longer get rewarded with new toys by blowing up red infrastructures. JC3 literally has some of the best the progression and design philosophy and execution of a game: gameplay wins all. Players create awesome explosions with the toys they have and are rewarded with more toys to enable more creative ways to cause more awesome explosions. A physics sandbox with minimal restrictions to maximize player creativity, levels filled with red objects that would cause chain destruction, many planes tanks helicopters and guns to reward the player, and lots and lots of explosions are all you need. The rest, characters, missions, and especially stories, are not really important. JC4 forgot about this principle and gives us a complete failure of a game.

To be fair I prefer Just Cause 4, gameplay is Awsome, the map is better imo. Bought the Complete Edition and would say that it would suck without Dlc's. (Better Dlc's than 3, except the mech dlc, this one was a Wonder). The biggest problem I think is that they needed more time (they had admitted it about the water but they were given a deadline etc...) One last thing is that Just Cause 4 is WAY Better optimized than 3. PC and Xbox, JC3 will get easily in trouble with random shutdowns etc... But 3 got a better atmosphere and sound design, and better villain...

Even if it’s the worst of the series, it’s still a fun game(in my opinion), so in a sense, it speaks volumes for the other games

Controlling storms is okay but who takes time to do it? The Bravarium rocket launcher where you can use the technology is way more useful in my opinion

So, I was really confused about Just Cause 4. Like, they had this whole trailer touting the "Apex engine". Then they had this in-depth GDC show all about driving physics. And it kinda reveals where the team's focus and state was: It was on the technology. They weren't ready to make another Just Cause. That's why 4 feels nothing but a tech demo. They were NOT in the art phase yet, they weren't even on the design phase. They were trying to figure out the tech and push it forward.

I remember playing the game with my best friend when it came out Coldest shower we ever had since we played JC2 and 3 back to back the days before

I want to play just cause 3 but my eye can't stand this game on pc. I got motion sickness when driving and the fov is too close. The colors also are too vibrant.

As someone who has absoolutelyy milked the very life out of JC3, I was reeeeeeaaaallly excited when JC4 game came out but unfortunately the game wasnt even half as fun as the previous one. This video does a really good the portraying reason behind it. Good Job dude

They where done dirty with the budget. They got less then 3 million dollars to work with, which mightve contributed to so much cutting down

For 2025 remaster just cause 3 and throw in the weapon zooming mechanic, all I need

about JC4: i taught the story missions and fortresses were better in JC3. In JC4 the missions were un-imaginative, and the enemy fortresses all looked the same. And how about the final fight against the boss helicopter in a vulcano? It looked like something from a 1999 game

It's simple. Avalanche Studio wanted to end with JC 3. They were forced into making a game they did not want to.

The worst part was blowing up things in bases and it not really doing anything. I didn't really get to far because they're was almost no reason to blow things up

square should use their open world tech and make a new sleeping dogs instead of another just cause. i agree JC3 was the pinnacle of the series JC4 was just a weak cash grab. glad i never picked it up.

to be fair the motorcycle driving in JC3 was dog shit as well, at least on pc

As someone who's still playing since day one, yes, the game leaves a lot of... "They should've added this and that" or "improved this or that" I often think, I want to shrink all assets and adjust roads to make the map seem bigger, make more weighted realistic destruction physics for everything, like BeamNG, make the weapons and shooting more realistic and detailed, make the weather look like Red Dead Redemption 2's weather, full customization options for everything, online lobbies, a theatre mode like Halo, where you can replay cutscenes, or rewatch your gameplay with a free roaming camera, so you can create videos... etc. They did none of the important stuff an action game needs. All we are going to be doing is blowing stuff up? I can go to a GTA Online public lobby and it's basically a better Just Cause game, I can do all the secret agent spy stuff even stand ontop of jets.. The management and direction for the type of game they needed to make just wasn't there, I'd say story stays more realism spy drama, keep the gameplay like a video game. Just because it looks realistic, and the stakes are as high as they've ever been, doesn't mean I can't survive a plane crash by ragdolling out of the explosion on fire, then wiping myself off, like Rico: "Sheesh"

I just came from JC2 to JC4 and oh my god.. the boat sounds are the same, water graphics are somehow worse, the way that you complete towns, bases, and cities is dumb… if there’s even a way.. haven’t figured that one out yet. What happened to just blowin’ shit up? I finished JC2 several times, but this… man I’m losing interest quick

Best water graphics goes to GTA V. And JC3 has music? I only started playing it yesterday but so far all I hear is the same South American jingle on and on. The NPCs are dumb, the enemies are dumb. The graphics are not that good. But I can imagine they did this because of saving processing for the animations and detailed environment destruction. But so far, JC to me seems like a shoot you would let your 6 year old play.

Eh even so it's less than JC3, I'm still having fun with it, for whatever it offers. Plus, I got this for free, and after beating it, I can say I finished the whole series.

Out of curiosity I've installed JC3 and JC4 on my PS5. I've started with JC4 and had some fun but i didn't knew why it seemed missing somethings... And when i got to JC3.... I remembered, I knew what was missing... The essence of what makes Just Cause, Just Cause. And surprisingly JC3 looks almost better than JC4 on PS5.

one of the biggest problems with jc4 was librating outposts or cities because in jc3 you have tasks and know exactly what to do but in jc4 you are confused . jc3 effects and destroy ability of bridges and effect of crossing on flower farms with a vehicle and .... are identical

It would have been 25x better if just kept my favourite thing which is destroying bases on its own. In this game the objects fcking respawn and doing nothing. The base game is good, but this was a huge mistake Oh and the the races are also replaced with these randon mini challenges which is bad as well

Long live JC3, my favourite game, let alone Just Cause game. I do hope there is a JC and that it undoes the moves made in JC4. I don't think they realised just how good JC3 was :(

I can't play JC3 without a hoverboard and the aim focus anymore. Those are great additions. Also the new hook system is amazing, the unlimited deliveries of vehicles and weapons (even thou is just 1 item for each order) and the double modes for each weapon

i remember playing just cause 3 when i was younger and i absolutely loved it, when i played just cause 4 i loved it aswell i must admit, but after playing it for a while and started messing around i started to relize hardly anything was destructible, the vehicles felt terrible, the wingsuit wasnt as fun, and i just hated it 😭

I do like the vehicles over 3 But the game play sucks the grapple doesn't work as good .4 has a few glitches I've noticed But 3 I don't get that. Only thing that stands out is the balloons that lift thing's. That's cool. But over all 4 👎

Seeing just cause 1 and someone explaining the gameplay, and the lackluster map, and the sucky graple gun. So can i say with complete comfidence that just cause 4 is NOT the worst at all

I like things about JC4 and I like things about JC3. JC3 has better gameplay and the GE-64. JC4 has better drop mechanics and better vehicles.

totally agree that the 4 is worst than the 3 but counting the dlcs of both in the review of the full game is not it, you shouldn't expect any random gamer to buy all dlcs to games they like, we're not all sheeps

i like the game i usually turn off the music anyways the visuals seem good to me the only thing i dislike abt js4 is the framerate on the ps5 its absolutely horrendous

I like just cause 3 the absolute most. BUT. Just cause 4 is NOT bad in my opinion. But the map is too big for me, character models kinda wack, and it’s a bit dull. Other than that I love just cause 4, it’s not perfect, but it’s fun for me :)

Never wanna see just cause 5 after the nightmare just cause 4 gave me and anyone who played it, don't even know where to start, the mission repetitive annoying and sometimes can kill you If you don't do it the right way, It felt more like a chore to get it over with rather than an accomplishment, there are moments where the game felt boring dull boing and overall when i see just cause 3 it makes you wanna play it but for me just cause 4 left a bad taste in my mouth to where i never play or see another one

Jc4 tho has that massive airport which actually gives you space to use the cargo plane and you can angle supply drops in any direction. BUT JC3 is 10 times better

I wonder if these people even played the game for more than 5 hours, i played both 3 and 4 and jc4 is one of the most fun i had in a game, this is from someone that played a lot of AAA games, jc3 is a boring non stop enemy spawning shooter that gives you a headache compared to jc4, in jc4 it feels like you are actually in a war and you want to do the missions.

Just cause 3 wasn't challenging at all. Most of the upgrades were useless and pointless since all you do is blow stuff up. These games are terrible.

I dont blame avalanche because they had to severely rush the game and thats why the game feels half done and there are just random outposts that dont do anything but sit there also i really liked the dlc and i think thats just cause (get it) they had enough time to actually work on it

I've tried to pick up JC4 twice. Right after JC3, found it boring. Then I tried it again just now wanting to kill some time, and I still can't enjoy it. No incentive to wreak havoc. Missions are boring; stand here and defend this while we attack you with everything. Seems like in starting with a new engine, they didn't manage to pick up where they left off and left out a lot of what made JC3 great.

And yet its so much better than a good chunk of todays modern slop games, Just Cause 4 may not be better than 3 but its not a bad game either, its still just as fun, if not funner than 3, this the type of game to just turn your brain off and enjoy the chaos, I've put around 200 hours into both 3 and 4 and I love them equally and in my opinion 4 is merely a sidegrade to 3, it lost some good things from its predecessor but added its own fun mechanics that hopefully the next installment can improve on (P.S I hope the hoverboard is in the next game as a base game addition)
