I'm not gonna lie I've been in a challenging place the last few months, but this mindset really did change my life right away and has genuinely been helping me move forward and stay dedicated. I hope this helps someone out there as significantly as it helped me.
Also I am extremely proud of how well this little project came out so I can't wait to make more in the near future so stay tuned.

I'm 55 years older than you and can say you are on the right track. Of course all geezers have advice so here is mine: 1-Take care of yourself physically. Most people who reach the age where the pressure to 'become something' is behind them are physical wrecks. Eat right and stay strong and you'll get to be the helper rather than the helpless. 2- Forgive yourself when you mess up and others who disappoint you. And yes, your mom was right about the single step (and you were right to thank her). That's it. Have a good life.

However, there's one other pain that's overlooked here. And it's more painful than both of these combined. The pain from realizing you've barely made progress when you thought you were. When you think you're doing well after reaching 45 feet, only to realize you SHOULD be past 100 feet at this point. Believing for some time you were at least trying to change things, only to realize you're barely any different than what you were when you started. And then the "at least I'm doing something" defense is no longer valid.

What's better than telling youself "just one step today" for people who are hard on themselves: after the day is done, and you habitually look back on your day and think "wow, once again I didn't do enough to reach my goals" you can now think "wow, I took one step today, and that's more than I thought. Me neither. I just let things slide. But the more I do that, the more overwhelming the task of getting my shit together seems to be. My only goals are to try to keep my home and myself clean. But if I achieve that, maybe I can push on from there. Still a work in progress, but if I can just do a little more each day, maybe I can start to think about what I might like to do to improve my life.

I'm struggling with depression, overthinking, negative thoughts, and my situation just seems too messed up to fix, it feels overwhelming and hopeless. Many times it gets so hurtful, it's hard to keep going, I don't know if I even have goals/dreams anymore, many times I just want to end it, but this idea of one step at a time, even very small, without thinking of the entire mountain your about to climb, that kinda sounds less overwhelming, and more doable. thank you.

Use drive instead of motivation, both are two different things of course, but motivation will always disappoint, drive is more like discipline, do it even when you don’t want to. The outcome at the end is more rewarding than waiting for the motivation to do something, even if it’s a small amount. There’s ways of breaking habits and it’s always a cue, crave, reward ordeal, find what’s making you the way you are, study it and you will find more about yourself that you never knew.

Other 31 yo here. Same thing I don't know what I am doing. I had a burnout last year, and can't work since then. Went to a clinic which helped a while and then I fell into a hole again. But honestly? Today I had a good day, and coincidentally this video showed up. Today I just sat down on the balcony and did some pottery work. That kept my mind of the negativity. When I see "The mountain" I am looking at a whole new career path, because I can't return to my old job. But my one step today was just finding something enjoyable and be OK with not having figured everything out jet. Let this be your first step tomorrow... knowing that most of us don't have a clue what we are doing. We are all just bull-sh*tting ourselves through life. You are not alone :).

I suffer from the constant fear of being not good enough. I would get a pretty good level for art, social skills, even video games...but I would constantly think it's not good enough. I'm so bad at anything. At least that's what my subconscious permanently thinks and makes me believe. It is so hard to keep up the pace of my life because I try to do so much things, that I end up exhausted, anxious and often, burnt out. I can make everything in two days, then sleep for weeks after. It's been two months since I haven't drawn anything. I did just one sketch yesterday, yet I feel like it's not enough, it's not a well finished piece. I work really hard on myself for years with my loved ones. I really want to feel like one step is enough and be proud of myself for once. I will be enough, and that's way sooner than what my brain wants me to believe. Thank you for your video.

Settings big goals, not being able to do all of it, procrastination as an escape, making it a habit, seeing results and getting stressed and anxious, this had been a long loop of habits that I wanted to escape. I was so tired of being tired, that I couldn't hope from myself. Then I set the 80 minute rule just 80 minutes of touching my potential and increasing it every day, I'll implement this from today. Your video came right on time, btw love the cinematography thank you for the lesson, we all needed this, hope we all heal and achieve our happiness. 💛

Ive always told myself that each time i think about my goals, the closer i get to actually doing it. If i think about it every day, i am one more day closer to doing what I want to achieve. That was 2 years ago. This year, ive finally made that mark in my life and have been consistently practicing animation which is something i wanted to do for the past 3 years Your video was shot beautifully, not only was it inspirational but was masterfully composed. Brother, best wishes and long life! I really needed this, I had been going through challenging times lately, which made it even more tiring for me to start what I had always dreamt of. Unlike other motivational videos, you did not try and sugarcoat the process and actually emphasised what really needs to be done at this very moment. I felt an instinct towards resuming what I've left because, like you said, I'm no more thinking about making up to the mountain for now, I am just thinking about starting. Thank you so much, brother! I sincerely wish the very best for your future endeavors, and I am glad that we're all not alone in this process. :)

Yeah this is good advice. One thing to add from me: the 'subconscious discomfort of doing nothing' doesn't have to be uncomfortable. It's all in your head. A long time ago, I felt like I had been dealt a good set of cards but my happiness was being limited by my 'discomfort' that I was imposing on myself for a variety of reasons, e.g., knowing how much I had procrastinated, that I wasn't where I wanted to be, that my room was messy, etc. I'm in a much better mental state now where I am infinitely forgiving of myself and instead of basing part of my self worth on my productivity, I pride myself on being able to be happy all the time, now matter how lazy I've been. I prefer to reach this stage first, and then I can work on becoming more productive - it's just chiller. Our instinctive negative feelings are built in to help us survive as animals, but we're not at risk of death anymore so we can let go of all the discomfort:) Thinking about big crazy stuff like the universe and how we are all biologically operating machines also helps me reach this mindset

Helloo!! Any tips on getting to that level?? I honestly struggle forgiving myself when I procrastinate so I’d love some loll. Thank uuu :D
@prodigion1
@prodigion1 3 ай бұрын
@@FishWillFly Once you realise that mentally telling yourself off is silly and useless, it's just a question of phrasing things in your mind so those feelings go away. What kind of person is it cooler to be: a person who procrastinates and then starts scolding themselves like everyone else does, making themselves unhappy for no reason, or a person who procrastinates and doesn't care because they see the bigger picture of life and they know that they can't change the past. I have phrases I like to go to when I feel baggage, e.g., 'be comfortable with being uncomfortable', sometimes you feel like you're ALMOST really happy but there's just a few thoughts holding you back, but you just have to sit with that discomfort and be ok with it. For forgiving myself, there's a song by Deb Never called 'Stupid' with the chorus 'I'm so stupid' and it's sort of a relaxing way of forgiving my past self for being such an idiot. Or as I said before, think BIG. Imagine that you have lived through the life of every human before you and now it's your turn in your body. Would you be stressed out about not being productive enough? I think you'd probably just treat life like a video game and have fun if you can, never stressing about anything. Eventually, the instinctive guilt of laziness start to be less instinctive.

This is how I started 2024. I was looking for new healthcare providers as my insurance changed with the new year. But, before I could make any appointments, my spouse wanted to take a break. So i agreed to get help in my hometown, in a completely different state. Not even a week had passed and they asked for a divorce. So I'm still taking steps. But it's so much harder. And some days I can barely get out of bed. In the therapy programs I've been in, I'm constantly reminded to not sell myself short. Even though I feel like I'm failing, I'm still moving forward, ever so slowly. Even if I might be sabotaging myself a little bit... I'm still struggling forward. Even millimeter by millimeter.

I just quit my last job because there was something I need to take care. I wandered myself for 2 months. Right now, I am going to have a part-time job interview. I can only do part-time job because I don't have much time. But I love how the ideas of one step at a time play out. I am the one who always worry everything. I worry the interview will be bad. I will not get this job. But you know what take one step at a time bring me here. I fear about it but I take one step to prepare for interview. I started with only write first word what to say in the interview. Only that, I can tell myself that I have progress. Whether the result will be good or bad, I will accept it. And I will move on to another job. Tha'ts life.

For some years I have been doing this - one step, every day. It might be to pull on your boots to get jobs done in the garden. I pull on my boots, walk out into the garden ( or garage or whatever) and say, OK do one thing. Usually that one thing leads to fifteen or thirty minutes of productive work. Sometimes it's just the one thing, but done every day, it really adds up. That one step is like the starter motor in your car or bike. It's a starting activity, it just lights the fuse. The real achievement is not what you get done in one day, but the cumulative effect of all those days. It's the consistent effort that moves you forward. If you expect huge progress every day, you set yourself up to fail. Give yourself an easy task and don't stress if one day isn't a great leap forward. Small steps, every day. 👍
The SIMPLE tool that made me happier/more creative
