Just happened! NASA's NEW MAJOR PLAN CHANGE for HLS Starship...
Artemis has long been the most anticipated mission of all time. However, its progress has not been easy. Technical issues surrounding rocketry, the lander especially the Starship HLS have posed significant challenges for this mission.
Just happened! NASA's NEW MAJOR PLAN CHANGE for HLS Starship...
Earlier this year, NASA postponed Artemis 3 by nearly a year, the first crewed mission to the lunar surface in over half a century.
And it doesn't stop there, recent indications suggest that NASA may completely change the profile of Artemis 3, turning this lunar mission into a basic test in low Earth orbit.
Just happened! NASA's NEW MAJOR PLAN CHANGE for HLS Starship...
So, what exactly has happened to Artemis 3’s plan?
Will the Starship HLS be able to meet the mission timeline?
Let’s find out on today’s episode of Alpha Tech!

The first two StarShip Mission was a failure? A real failure is when there’s no improvement in StarShip mission over the previous mission. You cannot simulate reality, for something that hasn’t been done before.

If history teaches us anything SpaceX might be late but everyone else will be much later. Just look at Starliner vs Crew Dragon, or how far ahead SpaceX is still with Falcon 9 vs everyone else. It's very likely that lunar missions will end up being Crew Dragon lift from earth (and return to earth) and HLS delivery and landing on the moon and back. Very likely to happen before SLS and Orion are actually ready for the mission.

I really don't understand why I keep watching your videos. If you would present these videos as pure speculation then they would not be as bad as they are with you making declarative statements in your title and in the body of the video that are not facts....0:42. "Jim Free states that "MAYBE we need to make a change" .... he did not say they are making a change! I have no problem with people speculating on anything but where I do have a problem is when you present your speculation as fact! I wish you good luck with future videos and I hold out hope that one day you will stop baiting people with click bait titles! I wish you all the best

Plans to dock Starship and Orion in low Earth orbit means that NASA wants to check the possibility of safety docking between 2 ships nearer than in Lunar orbit but not means that plans of HLS are cancelled.

Space X Starship could dock with Dragon earlier. Dragon is fully qualified to carry the crew and return crew from orbit. It would be like a mission to the ISS. All space X needs to do is send the upper half of Starship (command and cargo section) to NASA environmental vacuum chamber to be certified. It can be then welded to the lower fuel tanks and engine sections. After that Dragon can Taxi the crew back and forth to Starship in orbit. This proves everything except orbital refueling. Dragon in that case would arrive after successful refueling, eliminating all flight hazards. This makes everything ready for the Orion docking test.

Maybe why Starship V3 design exists so soon, it has twice the payload capacity of V2. Delivering more fuel and Starlinks to orbit, or GEO when desired without refueling. Starship V2 is mainly an improved version of the test prototype V1.

Bureaucracy and reality never mix well. And no plan survives first contact with the enemy.... My advice to NASA: just give SpaceX lotsa money and tell them to spend it on stuff to get to the lunar base goal, and that it needs to be practical solutions... Not one size fits all Starships. Starship is a crappy lander design, the tanks under and silly elevator is dumb and risky. Also the fuel transfer system is problematic, mostly due to the thin wall tanks approach. Were I Elon's chief Rocket Enginerd Flogger, I'd have them guys working on a better system, maybe even actual pressure vessel containment, and pumped liquid refilling at pressure in space. maybe also cartridge fueling. You'd probably need a second stage for the needed lift, then have Starship with more fuel mix shelf life. Might require building a Lunar orbital depot that you filled over time via whatever means, and then dedicated transit ships instead of the Mayflower to Mars routine. I just dont see low pressure containment as a good idea for the job. probably the only option for the first leg, but we get on Earth infrastructure for that. In Space, on the Moon, and on Mars we dont have the Big Hole gravity well issues of Earth, so would be better to design a more durable system. If lift costs are coming down, lift mass going up, we should better our concepts taking advantage of it. Might be OK for thin wall cryro getting to the Lunar Texaco, but after that better tanks for better security. also multiple tanks for asteroid pin hole security. Starship is an excellent escape hauler for Earth's gravity well, it is not an excelent Lunar or Mars lander, and is too small for a serious transit ship. everything should be purpose designed. There's an old addage: "Any tool designed for too many jobs, doesn't do any of them very well."

@@sp66-know-try-think I get heard.... not sure what the exact path is, but have been planting concepts long term on internet and watching them spread and get adopted. Was me who planted parts count, the new hot staging ring design is mine, did writs on it here on Alpha tech. Elon's joke about Jeff not being able to get it up was mine... Many other such things. Waiting for the next test flight to see if my suggested improved flight profile gets tried. And I've messed with NASA's ideas regularly... In fact, thats how it started, decades ago when NASA offered an X prize for a strip climber for Space Elevator, I published a writ online that blew up their concept and suggested a tubular design, and a NASA engineer edited my synopsis off Wiki and called it absurd... 3 years later NASA put up a tubular concept Space Elevator video on you tube.. Theirs sucked design wise, due to a linear gasketing issue. And I got that engineers email and reminded him he had booted my concept 3 years earlier. He apoligized. But I realized the concept planting dynamics. That if you planted concepts people would call you crazy snd stupid, then think, and then steal the concept and take credit. I've been very influential online since... Did political comentary, and planted things you have heard of because it got used. And have affected Starship more than anybody else not on the payroll.... I do writs on other Space sites too... Make suggestions of ways to do things better... What it is, is most people arent very imaginative and practical at the same time. They get wall hangers to learn to crunch numbers to be "Scientific" but that retards creative thinking. And most have little real world experience... Practical applications are a weak point. So they anger when a Peasant suggests, but also they are trapped by necessity of results, and most dont have good long term memory and easily forget the concept source and adopt the idea as their own. I've given up on getting credited, and just developed it into an art. I do writs, and enjoy helping better things... There's actually a saying about it in the Tao: "Accept being unimportant." Thats a way to discover how to be powerful. I have been affecting Space stuff for many years now. Alot of times they hate me.... Many times banned for it. But theres alot of channels and forums and I just hop to the next one and continue. So dont worry, I get results without portfolio! By feeding concepts into the garbage in, and watching the garbage out for the results... 🤣

Technically correct. Strategically, NASA needs to develop all the necessary orbital infrastructure for energy, transport, and life support for people in space (the ISS is just a step on a long path). And at the next stage, plan Lunar missions. And the current bustle does not bode well for anything good.

If they did space construction they could build a tanker station where a starship could dock and refuel in one trip taking the astronauts with them. No need for a seprate launch. Just the tanker station to get it full then finally the starship carrying astronauts going to the moon.

…Where would the taker station get the fuel, to refuel the starship, from.
@gregdeen1469
@gregdeen1469 11 күн бұрын
The purpose for the tanker is to steadily keep it full with automated launches. Then when they are ready to go the starship brings the crew to the station and refuel then head on. No need to lauch a ship into space then launch another with people in it to transfer to the vessel they are going to then take. Just stay in the starship. If I explained that clearly.

@@tmg7476 SLS is indeed over time and over budget, but performed flawlessly. Starliner had its own issues and can be perfectly criticized. On the other hand also crewed Dragon was over time costing taxpayers over a billion in Russian transport costs. The heatshield on Orion did perform differently than expected, but still allowed the capsule to return safely to earth with no internal overheating: compare that with SpaceX braking apart before even shedding speed. Nowhere did I claim that ONLY SpaceX has issues with timing and budget, yet at the moment it is the only so late and so under preforming to cast the whole program into doubt.
